Thursday night football open thread: scouting Stitt

Submitted by mfan_in_ohio on
Tonight's slate of games includes Colorado School of Mines (led by mgofavorite Bob Stitt) at Fort Lewis on CBS Sports. Go Orediggers! Also, Va Tech vs. Pitt on ESPN.

Virginia Tech, in a move which will shock no one, successfully manages a field goal to cut their deficit to 7-3 in the second quarter. This is everything you had hoped that a Pitt - VTech matchup would be, if indeed you are watching it.

Oh my Lorddddd....a catch-fumble-recovery (but out of bounds) in the Pitt-Va Tech game. ..no where near the catch Funchess had 2 weeks ago. Football rules and consistency suck ass.

It reminds me of Baylor. He spreads the field and makes you decide whether you want to cover the middle of the field and leave the wideouts in single coverage, or give help to the DBs outside and make yourself vulnerable to the run game. It's such a simple concept. It bothers me when Michigan brings the wideouts near the tight ends and puts all 11 players in the center of the field. The defense has more players near the ball and it forces all 9 blockers to execute (against 11 defenders) versus just the 5 interior linemen against 5 defenders. It's much easier to get 5 good blocks than 9.

But but but, it's not the Michigan way! It should be POWAR FOOTBAW!!! Line up in the I or Ace and run right at them even though they know exactly what's coming and just out-execute them because dammit, that's the way it's been from the beginning of time and that's the way it has to remain! Rabble rabble rabble!
