Three Weeks in a Row?
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:38 PM ^
Oregon is #1
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:38 PM ^
This is starting to remind me of that season a few years back when Boston College and South Florida were top5
October 24th, 2010 at 7:17 AM ^
Not only top5, they were both ranked as high as #2 if you can believe it.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:39 PM ^
If Oregon didn't continue to convincingly pound opponents into the dirt, I wouldn't be surprised to see the pollsters jump on Auburn
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:48 PM ^
Gotta think Auburn would move up to number 2 with the win over LSU (total stat sheet domination), especially since Boise had a bye today, and in today's polls of "what have you done for me lately" you would think they would jump Boise and TCU.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:39 PM ^
back in, 1960 maybe? Can't remember who was first, but I think Iowa was second and Mizzou was the third. Got distracted by the Six Zero criticism thread, so forgive me if I got the details wrong.

else find it dumb that Stoops went for two after pulling within 9 around the seven minute mark? They didn't get it, leaving it a two score game, and it seems like it just took the wind out of their sails. I don't like going for two unitl it is absolutely necessary.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:53 PM ^
October 24th, 2010 at 11:32 AM ^
i've been trying to explain that strategy to people for years to no avail...
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:41 PM ^
How do you punt there? Gosh that's awful.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:45 PM ^
I was thinking the same exact thing, the game isnt even close to over, between him and Ferentz I can't wait for TWIS on Monday.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:49 PM ^
This makes no sense to me, and the announcers didn't seem to think it was strange to punt there.
So they punt with ~2 minutes left and no timeouts, but then try to lateral for a score with 2 seconds left when they don't even have a chance anymore?
October 24th, 2010 at 2:17 AM ^
Don't forget Navy running all over Notre Dame. That'll be awesome in TWIS too.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:58 PM ^
I thought the same thing.
makes no sense..... unless they are concerned about how much they lose by for polling reasons and don't want to give the ball up that close to the goal line?
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:43 PM ^
Whoever wins the Auburn-Alabama game will play in the NC game IMO. Then hopefully Oregon wins out, Auburn-Oregon game would be epic.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:49 PM ^
Oregon by 40.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:34 AM ^
Woah woah woah, those are some mighty big words you're talking there.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:50 PM ^
T'would certainly give hope to a number of schools running a rush-heavy...spread style offense..
October 24th, 2010 at 12:04 AM ^
i thought i heard that the spread is dead
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:45 PM ^
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:49 PM ^
Yes, but Lane Kiffin coaches USC and therefore the extra week will be spent by him being EXTRA-douchebaggy. I say Oregon shreds.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:53 PM ^
October 24th, 2010 at 12:02 AM ^
It will be an interesting match-up. USC has lost two tight games mostly due to a very inexperienced secondary. They had Stanford on the ropes in Palo Alto, lost a heartbreaker, then came home and when it looked like it was unraveling, they hung around 40 on Cal in the first half.
There is talent there and they have a talented experienced D line. If they can win those match-ups up front, they maybe can slow down Oregon.
Monte Kiffin admits he is way more comfortable defending pro sets but that defense is starting to mature.
If they fall and Iowa falls, we might have a team in this state getting first place votes in the national polls. Who would have thunk it?
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:56 PM ^
USC's total defense ranks 90th overall, I think it's safe to say that Oregon should absolutely shred Monte's D.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:28 AM ^
All that extra time wont' fix that abysmal USC defense
I'd like for it to happen but no
October 24th, 2010 at 8:59 AM ^
Except it looks like Auburn will be the new #1. They play at Ole Miss.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:45 PM ^
Musberger has been hammering those words into my brain for the last 3 hours. He just latches on to one or two stories and beats them to death over the course of a broadcast. I can't stand him. And what's most annoying is that he always finds a way to mention the Buckeyes a handful of times in each broadcast no matter how irrelevant they are to the game he's calling.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:49 PM ^
You must forgive me. I'm not watching the game because apparently my bye week daddy/husbad duties take me through the night games as well. Sucks.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:53 PM ^
Repeating the same storyline ceaselessly throughout a match
Mentioning OSU to make Kirk happy
Complaining about NFL rules
Pointing out the differences in college and NFL rules
Telling the viewers not to go away because it's going to be an exciting match
Anything else?
At least it's better than Verne and GD on CBS showing a complete ignorance of rules and sound strategy (though, what do you expect from a former Lions QB and Mr. "Was it an incomplete pass?"). Somehow, the Matt Millen and Sean McD pairing has probably become my favorite for college football, because Millen's comments are dumb enough to be funny without being stupidly annoying.

October 24th, 2010 at 12:31 AM ^
Agreed
I never understood the rage and dislike of announcers. Verne has been calling games for years, and I haven't had a problem with him. Musberger is a legend in the industry, the only thing I can get annoyed about his broadcast is the ESPN MNF promo which randomly pops up
HEY DID YOU KNOW THE COWBOYS STILL AREN'T DEAD YET
Awkward silence
Resume game play by play
October 24th, 2010 at 3:17 AM ^
I prefer listening to his broadcasts.

But yes, there are some terrible rambling lunatics. My least favorite combination must be: Danielson - Musberger.
October 24th, 2010 at 8:22 AM ^
It's because none of them are Keith Jackson.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:19 AM ^
I am not a Musberger fan either. However, I like Kirk calling the games. I also like Jesse Palmer. Maybe we could pair the two up and have a decent broadcast team.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:48 PM ^
please stay off the field... yeah that announcement worked pretty well.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:50 PM ^
Is Musburger drunk, demented or getting a BJ right now? Nothing he says makes any sense.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:50 PM ^
We could give the Big 12 Sparty.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:16 AM ^
If you propose that trade the only question will be, "What's a Sparty?"
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:50 PM ^
I want Mizzou's defense.....
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:55 PM ^
Oregon is the next #1 to go down? I don't think it will happen. Mizzou played a great game.
October 23rd, 2010 at 11:55 PM ^

Another One bites the dust. Don't think Oregon will lose to USC, though. Good luck stopping that offense.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:07 AM ^
I was disappointed to see our senior-laden team in 2007 fall to Oregon, but I could not help but be in awe of how Dennis Dixon ran that offense. I'm so glad to see this Oregon team this year (19 returning starters?) prove the spread haters wrong. I would love to see them roll to a national title this year.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:11 AM ^
October 24th, 2010 at 1:43 AM ^
If you want to drive the Oregon fans nuts, pray for them to lose to Boise State in the NCG. They hate losing to BSU.
October 24th, 2010 at 12:18 AM ^
Auburn is the only legitimate MNC candidate right now, but they will have to be special indeed to finish undefeated. The Iron Bowl will be colossal this year. MSU, Missouri, Oregon can all prove themselves in the next couple weeks. I predict all BCS teams will lose at least once, and BSU and TCU have made it unscathed to their two month long cupcake munch.
On that note, I will praying hard for MSU to lose next week, so they don't stumble over backwards into a MNC game matchup with the Mountain West.
Anyway, No. 1's losing repeatedly happens all the time. Its just as common as the 2005's and 2009's, where two or three teams plow through the entire schedule and stay 1-2.
October 24th, 2010 at 8:13 AM ^
"Anyway, No. 1's losing repeatedly happens all the time."
three week in a row hasn't happened since 1960.

Guess the computer is biased towards the SEC
Seriously Oregon should be #1 in those rankings
