Three Weeks in a Row?

Submitted by UMichinCA on

For the third time in as many weeks, the #1 team is on the ropes.  Oklahoma is down 9 with 5 min's to go against Missouri.  Has #1 ever lost 3 weeks in a row?

Assuming Mizzou holds, who claims #1?

Who would want it at this point?

I'd take that risk.

back in, 1960 maybe?  Can't remember who was first, but I think Iowa was second and Mizzou was the third.  Got distracted by the Six Zero criticism thread, so forgive me if I got the details wrong.

else find it dumb that Stoops went for two after pulling within 9 around the seven minute mark?  They didn't get it, leaving it a two score game, and it seems like it just took the wind out of their sails.  I don't like going for two unitl it is absolutely necessary.

Oregon goes to USC next week and USC has been sitting there scheming all week for them during their bye. Could very, very, VERY easily be four in a row. "Smoke weed, talk shit like Lane Kiffin..."

As big of a weasel as Lane Kiffin ism he doesn't seem like a bad coach and his team has every bit as much talent from top to bottom as Oregon. People seem to like to act like USC has fallen off the map but they could easily be undefeated right now and are still probably the second best team in that conference.

It will be an interesting match-up. USC has lost two tight games mostly due to a very inexperienced secondary.  They had Stanford on the ropes in Palo Alto, lost a heartbreaker, then came home and when it looked like it was unraveling, they hung around 40 on Cal in the first half.

There is talent there and they have a talented experienced D line. If they can win those match-ups up front,  they maybe can slow down Oregon.

Monte Kiffin admits he is way more comfortable defending pro sets but that defense is starting to mature.

If they fall and Iowa falls, we might have a team in this state getting first place votes in the national polls.  Who would have thunk it?

Musberger has been hammering those words into my brain for the last 3 hours. He just latches on to one or two stories and beats them to death over the course of a broadcast. I can't stand him. And what's most annoying is that he always finds a way to mention the Buckeyes a handful of times in each broadcast no matter how irrelevant they are to the game he's calling.

Repeating the same storyline ceaselessly throughout a match

Mentioning OSU to make Kirk happy

Complaining about NFL rules

Pointing out the differences in college and NFL rules

Telling the viewers not to go away because it's going to be an exciting match

Anything else?

At least it's better than Verne and GD on CBS showing a complete ignorance of rules and sound strategy (though, what do you expect from a former Lions QB and Mr. "Was it an incomplete pass?").  Somehow, the Matt Millen and Sean McD pairing has probably become my favorite for college football, because Millen's comments are dumb enough to be funny without being stupidly annoying.

If there's anything we are as united about on mgoblog as we are in our love for all things UM, it's our blind hatred of every announcer ever. According to our collective self, every announcer is terrible and horribly biased against Michigan.... EVERY ONE!!

Agreed

I never understood the rage and dislike of announcers. Verne has been calling games for years, and I haven't had a problem with him. Musberger is a legend in the industry, the only thing I can get annoyed about his broadcast is the ESPN MNF promo which randomly pops up

HEY DID YOU KNOW THE COWBOYS STILL AREN'T DEAD YET

Awkward silence

I was disappointed to see our senior-laden team in 2007 fall to Oregon, but I could not help but be in awe of how Dennis Dixon ran that offense.  I'm so glad to see this Oregon team this year (19 returning starters?) prove the spread haters wrong.  I would love to see them roll to a national title this year.

I'm ambivalent on Oregon. The massive amount of money Nike pours into their athletic department and the general douchebaggery of their fans makes me hope someone else wins the National title. They're still a lot better then another SEC or B12 champion tho.

Auburn is the only legitimate MNC candidate right now, but they will have to be special indeed to finish undefeated.  The Iron  Bowl will be colossal this year.  MSU, Missouri, Oregon can all prove themselves in the next couple weeks.  I predict all BCS teams will lose at least once, and BSU and TCU have made it unscathed to their two month long cupcake munch.

On that note, I will praying hard for MSU to lose next week, so they don't stumble over backwards into a MNC game matchup with the Mountain West.

Anyway, No. 1's losing repeatedly happens all the time.  Its just as common as the 2005's and 2009's, where two or three teams plow through the entire schedule and stay 1-2.

According to ESPN, the BCS standings tomorrow will be: 1 Auburn 2 Oregon 3 Boise State 4 TCU 5 Little Brother 6 Mizzou
