A Thought for UConn
This isn't really about the quality of the UConn program, more an idea I had for the return game. As we all know, UConn isn't allowed to play more than the Notre Dame game every year outside the state of Connecticut. Thus we're sort of resigned to playing them in Hartford... or not.
Enter the Yale Bowl. 65,000 seats in New Haven, close enough to New York City to draw our Manhattanite alums and still in the state of Connecticut to fulfill UConn's obligations. The Yale Bowl was the inspiration for both the Big House and the Rose Bowl... I think playing there would be awesome.

Yeah if we were playing UConn. I heard somewhere that the AD said it would be a "big name opponent."
Brian's deduction was UConn, hence why I brought it up.
I believe otherwise, I mean UConn is definitely not a big name opponent, and IMO it would be a dismal failure to schedule them for a home-and-home although playing in the Yale Bowl would be kewl.
They said a BCS opponent.
In basketball!!!
C'mon guys, schedule a home and home with a strong SEC/Big 12 team...let's give the fans something that they want to see...I say we play Arkansas or Tennessee...or let's play Florida or Miami, which would only help out recruiting down there (especially if we win)
Kirk Ferentz replacing Carr: dumb idea, won't happen (fingers crossed).
Great comparison, I completely agree. I hope this does not come to fruition, but wouldn't be totally disappointed. I'm hoping its a bigger name BCS opponent.
is big and historical (apparently it inspired the Rose Bowl and M stadium). Why not?

He said this RIGHT UP THERE!!! In the main post... Wow
Because while what he said was redundant, he at least stayed on topic unlike most of the other replies.
That's why I don't get it...
You know the Wyoming got a home and home with Texas? Unless your team is just awful and needs money, smaller schools are all seeking home and homes now.
This would sell out instantly.
But only because I live in Connecticut and could actually see a Michigan game live.
Why is it so important to have a big name opponent for the opener? It is going to be a sellout no matter what and we will also increase profit margin in the future if we don't have to play a home-and-home.
Then sure I like it, but if it's a 1 for 1 come on that's just stupid. The ticket revenue just isn't there for the Huskies to justify a home and home series.
But it's certainly one of those teams on the up-n-up, having won 8 and 9 games, respectively, over the 08 and 07 seasons, and a pretty good track record in the Big East since joining the conference. The recruiting isn't there yet, but Edsall is a kickass coach and I don't think Michigan fans nor pollsters would hold anything against our team playing them.
That's why it's disapppointing.
Speak for yourself, I never expected "OMG GEORGIA" because I'm not silly enough to believe our AD will take those risks with a team still under construction.
It could be worse.
But it's not the goliath that we had all hoped fo
we were hoping for 'goliaths?'
Newsflash: Uconn is a mid-low level BCS team. jsut like OKst, rutgers, OreST and purdue. the return game is close to large eastern alumni bases. we've traveled to BC in the past.
this is a good solid opponent for a season opener.
wait r we playing uconn for sure now?
New Haven is not really anywhere near the Storrs/Hartford Area, and the Yale Bowl, while historic, is very old and dilapidated. It is very much an example of the Ivy League stadiums that were new and state-of-the-art back when their teams were still nationally relevant.
It seats far more, and is both in perception and reality far easier for NY-based alumni to attend, especially via MTA train. Boston alumni base will travel to Hartford or New Haven in the same numbers anyway.
I don't see why Michigan wouldn't push for the Yale Bowl as the site. Whether, logistically, UConn could make that happen without giving up a lot, I have no idea.
The contract probably specifies where the return game will be. If it doesn't already say the Yale Bowl, it's not likely to happen -- unless Connecticut wants it to happen.
P.S. Anyone know if Yale would even cotton to the idea of Connecticut playing in its home field?
