Tell me about the recent Crisler experience

Submitted by Flying Dutchman on February 28th, 2022 at 3:07 PM

I haven't been to a basketball game at Crisler in probably 25 years or more, but I'm rolling in tomorrow for Michigan vs Staee.   I average 2 football games a year so my familiarity with AA isn't a question.

The school's website says (as of 1/1/22) that were still dealing with proof of vaccination and masks at all the basketball games.   3 trips to the Big House this season were a totally different experience.

Is this information up to date?  Is this being enforced?   I have a vax card (haven't got it out since a Colorado trip last June) and can find a mask somewhere (rarely worn in W Mich at this point), but would rather just "take my chances".

Enlighten me on what's going on at Crisler please.  What should I be prepared for?

Was there for Michigan vs Ohio St recently, masks were mostly worn - they are mandatory.  Vaccination cards with accompanying ID were reviewed upon entry into the arena.

I can't answer the question being out of state but why not just bring a mask and your vaccine card? Worst case scenario is you don't need it.

You'd rather drive two hours and take the chance that you won't be admitted to the game over putting your vax card and a $.05 surgical mask in your jacket pocket?

If by "taking your chances" you are willing to take the almost 100% chance of not being allowed into the arena for the game without proof of vaccine and a mask, go ahead and roll the dice.

Be prepared for somebody on Michigan State's team to go 5 for 6 on pull-up threes and a few back-breaking foul or non-foul calls.

No clue about the masks or vax stuff.

Have fun!

Don't be a fucking idiot and just bring a mask and your vaccination card. Worst case you go there and they ask too see both of those things in which case you'll be ready. If you don't bring your vax card then there is a chance you won't get it.

I really dont understand how people are so dumb. Just put a mask and your card in your pocket both takes up zero space. I came into the thread thinking it'd be about the environment at Crisler during a MSU-Um bball game (I have never been to one). Instead the thread is a waste of time about covid rules.

I have season tickets for mens and womens basketball and attend all the games. You will not be allowed to enter Crisler without showing your vax card or a recent (<72 hours) negative COVID test from a medical professional. I have seen this policy enforced multiple times at the entrance.

Feels like the easiest thing to do is bring the card and mask and if you don't use them then just put them in your pocket.  Any other action seems like more effort and a higher chance of being inconvenienced, unless the latter is somehow your goal.

Since you've been to the stadium, think of the mask as like one of those plastic ponchos that you'd wear during a rainy football game. It's a minor annoyance that folds up and fits right in your pocket.

We went to the recent women's game against Maryland and had a great time. And yes, a mask and a card were required. And at no time did they keep us from enjoying ourselves.

So if you can concentrate on what's on the floor rather than what's on your face, you'll probably enjoy it, too.

You should totally just roll the dice and take your chances. That way, all the smart people can watch the game in peace, free of worry about people like you.

Sorry if this is harsh, I am just exhausted at this point.

I went with my son in January for the Maryland game. Yup, they had people checking Vax cards and masks when I was there. It truly wasn't a big deal. Enjoyed the game with my son immensely.

Masks, even the useless blue ones, are required unless you are eating. Proof of vaccination or a very recent negative test is also required. This was needed at Yost and as well as Crisler last week and this week too..

Tomorrow is also a maize out. Wear maize or go to the gift ship and get a maize shirt.

8:30 tip off tomorrow.

There will be 100 extra commercials and official reviews for 5 minute majors that will go against UM by a totally biased Notre Dame broadcaster ( sorry wrong sport bitch).

Prepare for Marcus Bingham to go Steph Curry on us :12 for 13 from the 3's and then Stephen Izzo to go Kaitlyn Clark 5 for 5 from downtown. Ted Valentine will come back as guest referee to T up Phil Martelli for breathing, while letting Tom Izzo perform a human sacrifice at center court ( while making his Tucker Carlson displeasure face) on Bingham for missing the one three pointer.

Just put them both in your pocket, my friend. They take up literally no space at all. Whether you agree with them in principle or not, they're part of the price of admission. You always have the option to not go.

As the old saying goes, you'd rather have them and not need them than need them and not have them.

I'm thinking about going to this game.. should I take a passport?   Seriously though has this been posted anywhere here?

Basketball Hall of Fame London Showcase Rescheduled, U-M to Face Kentucky December 2022

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame announced Monday (Feb. 28) that the inaugural Basketball Hall of Fame London Showcase has been rescheduled for Sunday, Dec. 4, 2022, highlighted with Michigan facing Kentucky at the O2 Arena in London, England -- known as one of the busiest arenas in the world.

Originally scheduled for Dec. 6, 2020, the London Showcase was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With the new date and schedule, the event will feature a doubleheader of collegiate basketball with Marist playing Maine at 3:30 p.m. London time (10:30 a.m. ET), followed by the Wolverines and Wildcats at 6 p.m. (1 p.m. ET).

"After all that has transpired over the last few years for us, and even the world, it will be a tremendous opportunity for Michigan, Kentucky and college basketball itself to get the chance to showcase this game," said U-M's David and Meredith Kaplan head men's basketball coach Juwan Howard. "We had to wait, but it will be that "once-in-a-lifetime" experience for our young men and our fans. We are thankful the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame has continued to provide this opportunity and make sure everyone is safe. This is going to be truly special."

Tickets for the Basketball Hall of Fame London Showcase will go on sale to the general public on Friday, March 4, at 9 a.m. London time (4 a.m. EST) via AXS.com and The O2 arena box office.

A university presale available to current U-M men's basketball season ticket holders and donors with 500 or more priority points will start Thursday, March 3 at 5 a.m. EST and run through Friday, March 4 at 4 a.m. EST.

U-M and Kentucky have met on seven occasions, with UK holding the 5-2 all-time series advantage. The Wolverines and Wildcats will meet up for the first time since the 2013-14 campaign when Kentucky came away with a victory over U-M in the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional final.

I was at the Illinois game yesterday and Rutgers last Wednesday.  They will definitely check you vaccination card (a photograph on your phone will do) and require you to wear a mask unless actively eating or drinking.  During timeouts they walk the stairs and ask people who aren't wearing masks to put one on.

I don't recall them asking me to show my driver's license to verify it was my vaccination card but was certainly prepared to do so.

I think when he said he’d take his chances, he meant not wear a mask and maybe get COVID. Which is equally moronic because wearing a mask is such a minor thing. God, I hate people.

At yesterday's game we had to mask up and show vaccine status.  Almost everyone showed a copy of their vax card on their cell phone.  You can take a pic of it or scan it in to your phone.  But everyone was being stopped and required to show proof.  Go Blue!

Need to show proof of vaccination, actually more important than a ticket.  Be prepared to be told to put your mask on 100x.   Good hint, look on stubhub for a lower bowl row with 5-6 tickets for sale and then sneak down there in that row.   Cheaper than buying one of thousands of empty lower bowl seats.

Yeah, your ID and vaccination card are best out as you enter Crisler, and the mask is still needed as you move about the place. I know that many of the mandates - businesses, county, state, etc.... - are expiring in droves lately, but you will definitely need these things to enter.

I have only personally seen two people try to enter Crisler or Yost without a vaccination card.  Both were denied entrance and referred to the local CVS to get a current COVID test.  As for masks, the event staff will ask politely a couple of times and offer you a mask, but after the third or so time they have to act, they have asked folks to leave.

I don't like it either (and neither does my section's event staff)--I live in a state that hasn't required masks at all, but it is the rule on campus, and it is expected that everyone follows it.

Darker Blue

So this one time I was huffing glue and angels spoke to me. The said Darker Blue, it is time to rise up and face your nemesis. Long he has hounded you and tortured your soul.

As my brain cells continued to pop, I knew I must follow this voice. This voice was my god. I gathered what was left of my thoughts and prayed as hard as I could.

"Mighty Lord of the Glue!, What is it your require of me? How can I please you mighty Lord? PLEASE GOD OF MY EXPLODING BRAIN CELLS HOW CAN YOUR HUMBLE SERVANT SERVE YOU? YOUR WILL IS MY COMMAND!"

I gazed deep into the paper bag and the glue god looked up and a peace washed over me. He said,

"Tell the Dutchman who flies to eat your ass" and then he was gone"

So Flying Dutchman, per my lord and savior, eat my ass. In fact eat all of our collective asses.

Good day

If you love PC, you will love going to this game. Watch out for the people with the pickle ball paddles, otherwise known as the mask police, they will single you out in a heartbeat.  You may wish to buy kettlecorn, as the only time you can not wear your mask is when you are "actively eating".  The upside is you can look at people and call them silly and they won't know what you said. They will trick you with the color guard, you will understand what I mean when it happens. Hopefully you will get some good reasons to yell Go Blue. Otherwise, enjoy what it feels like to have to wear a mask and exert yourself yelling. At this time, asinine, ridiculous, and inappropriate, even the SOU speech tonight doesn't have the mask requirement as they choose to "follow the science". LOL. The science.

Enjoy!

Translation of lmgoblue1

  • If you are planning on not following the rules you agreed to when you bought your ticket, the employees of the arena will ask you to follow the rules
  • If you are too timid to tell someone to their face what you want to say about them, you can hide behind your mask and say it anyway
  • If you are offended by the playing of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" use this as your trigger warning
  • If you are in such bad cardiovascular shape that you can't breath through a mask, it will be a challenge to cheer loudly
  • "The science" clearly shows that wearing a mask is dumb and if you are hesitant about that, you are wrong
