Team Meeting Today....What Could Happen?

Submitted by UMChick77 on

My first thread...so don't be too harsh on me. ;) I didn't see anything referencing the team meeting today. If so, the mods can go ahead and delete this. A couple of questions from me:

  • Any idea when this meeting is supposed to take place?
  • Rumors have been floating that it is possible that Hackett could tell team who's their next coach. You think that it is likely or unlikely? (i.e. wait until next Tuesday before the the BB game to announce to the team)
  • This kind of goes with the question above, any chance that the coach himself could talk to the team via teleconference?

Just seeing what everyone's thoughts are on this and anything else relating to the team meeting today.

If nothing else, he would at least be walking behind this rather nasty bit of weather that is supposed to be in southeastern Michigan late Wednesday and into Thursday, so if he really wanted to do that, being behind that storm is probably the most sensible way to go about this. Then again, if he took I-80, you have to walk through Gary....maybe the teleconference is better.

Well the last bullet says that the coach would teleconference into the meeting to talk to the team.  You're suggesting that Hackett is going to hold a teleconference with members of the team who would be calling in from 85+ disparate locations.

Logistically, this seems unlikely.  Of course, I guess it's possible that Hackett has already pre-scheduled this with the team members before they left for vacation.

and I think its completely possible to have that many folks call into a teleconference or some sort of online meeting.  If all the players are on vacation, and it was a pre-coordinated meeting due to the circumstances going on before break started, its totally possible.  Likely or unlikely aside...I have to imagine that's the only way it could be done, especially if they anticipated not having anything significant to report.

I work in the construction industry and on some of the high profile jobs we do, it is not uncommon to have teleconferencing with 80 plus individuals.  I'm sure some of you on here can feel my pain on this.  They are typically very boring and you listen to one person talk....but it happens.

I would like the call in info for this one, I can mute my phone so nobody hears me breathing/chewing/typing/clicking mouse/hitting F5/etc.  I probably would not be bored in this instance.

People have been talking about this meeting for at least a week, so it's been preplanned, and as others have stated, it's a teleconference.

I would expect nothing definitive to come out of this, except more optimism being relayed from Hackett to the team, and reiterating that they should know who the coach is by Winter term.

Are you serious?  Every company in America has a provider for web-based teleconferencing these days, be it GoToMeeting or WebEx or something else.  My company regularly holds meetings where we all call in from 100 different locations in the US and Canada (most of us work remotely).  Everyone calls the one central phone number and connects to a website with a shared password.  I'm sure Hackett has a service like this available.

Now, getting 115 college kids to join a meeting like this after they've been on break for a couple days may be next to impossible, but the logistics is fairly easy.

I need a Sarah Koenig thread to discuss what we know, what we don't know and how the various stories about how today's events will unfold fit together.

Is a conference call with 85+ people even technically possible? Do they each need their own pin #s to join the call? Will the lines be muted to quell dissent? Are they using one of those shitty free conferencing services based in North Dakota?

Is everyone lying about there even being a call? Did Hackett wrap Harbaugh up weeks ago and hatch this whole darn scheme just to make himself look like a hero? So many questions.

Most of the Rivals guys seem to think that the team will be told something along the lines of, "We believe we have a coach and we'll let you know more about that at the next meeting". They don't expect an official announcement of Harbaugh will happen at the meeting.

I was going to say- seems like it's unlikely any coach will be announced to them today. This meeting has been scheduled for at least a week or two, right? It seems like the situation is way too fluid for them to have been able to say "We will have a coach in the bag by 12/23 and can tell them team on that day"

Maybe if they are really on the ball they could be ready for that, but I'm guessing the 23rd & 29th were dates to get on the team's calendar where they were probably hoping to have a coach by the 29th to announce and introduce at the game on the 30th

I'm guessing Hackett will be noncommittal about it. With Harbaugh under contract there's nothing official in place and nothin good could come from the players tweeting out things like "You guys are gonna be "Haughppy reallll soon!!"

In my head, I pronounce Haughppy, as haw-pee. So, are you saying that the players are saying that the fans will be delicious malted beverages soon?!?!? Because if so, party on Wayne.

Also, Hackett is all business, so no chance anything official is announced until pen is on paper. Then, if if IT (TM) happens, Harbaugh and Hackett will decide together how to announce, after which it will be shouted from the mountaintops and word will spread from town to town.
