Stanford Grad Transfer...

According to rivals site..

Stanford sources feel senior defensive back Wayne Lyons of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. is  working on the  transfer process to play at Michigan for his fifth year. He was the Rivals  107 player in the 2011 class.  May help a position of need quickly.

He had 68 tackles as a corner in 2013, don't know if Stanford lost a lot on defensive starters in 2014, but this kid is very smart, HS class valedictorian, and 4 star back in 2011. He broke his foot his freshman year and exploded in his junior year.  Don't know why the drop off in 2014 in statistics.  Hope it is true.

Great news! A welcome addition both in talent and experience. What's the timetable for grad transfers? Anyone have any info on the punter that might transfer from Weber State?

He was a big-time recruit back in the day.  Michigan went after him pretty hard and he even took an official a month before RR was fired.  Alas the Gator Bowl and "The Process" pretty much precluded him from coming to Michigan.

This would be a fantastic pickup if true.

If this is true, it seems as though the coaching staff will likely ask one of our current DBs to take a redshirt to help mitigate the massive roster dropoff in the secondary that is coming down the road. So, who are the likely candidates?

Not only does this almost never happen, it appears highly unlikely there are any candidates.  If you mean Stribling, he is going to be a junior and projects to be the top backup across the board (assuming Lyons, Lewis, Countess are your starters/nickelback).

It's also feasible that Lyons ends up starting at safety beside Wilson.

again this morning on the recruiting roundup as well.  Someone asked about EJ Levenberry; he dodged that question because he said he isn't "at liberty" to use names.  In response he simply said that he knows there will be some sort of transfer in this year on the defensive side. At the time it sounded like he was trying to say Levenberry was the guy, but this makes more sense, in my opinion.

This is obviously a huge positive for this year.  He's not necessarily a stud (sounds like he was the target when teams threw against Stanford), but he seems like a plus corner regardless and should provide some nice stability.

and faced Utah before as well.

Look, if Michigan can add a fifth year senior to its roster, it's just as good or better than starting a four-star freshman, because you get the benefit of the Stanford background and coaching and his built-in experience and instinctual knowledge. This helps everyone else develop as well. What a smart move by this staff, which continues to demonstrate quick strike ability and aggressive decision-making.

If you had any doubts about a problem-solving staff, this move ought to end them.

I'm game either way, but it would be great if he could play safety.  That seems to be a weaker spot on defense than cornerback.
