So the NCAA is ok with Clemson building a big play house just for their football players with video game, miniature golf courses, nap rooms, etc. But god forbid practicing off campus during spring break.

that would have been a good compromise.  Overseas trips for basketball are limited to one per four years.  Off-campus events are good for team bonding but neither would the student-athlete have every single spring break accounted for, they'd have some spring breaks to enjoy on their own.

But --- we didn't get that, we got the complete ban.  Nobody seems interested in compromise.

While reading the USA Today article, I noticed this little tidbit:

"One off day per week during official preseason practice and school holidays (like winter break) is now mandatory."

Can't Harbaugh just move the timing to be between semesters/trimesters?

Unleash the bagmen!  Seriously.  At this point who cares?  Every team is cheating with impugnity and somehow holding practice when students don't have class is outlawed?!

F the NCAA.  There is no moral high ground anymore.  Do whatever you can to get the best athletes.

Edit: you can get caught repetedly paying players, offering prostitutes, holding fake classes, etc. and nothing happens.  But god forbid, spring break practices.

This is my thought as well. I mean, let's be honest, UM probably already has them to an extent, but I say go full boar and start pulling some of these 5 stars out of the south. I'm not even sure if that is cheating anymore anyway.

*** not sure if that is the right boar.

serious question...can the University of Michigan establish a "satellite" campus somewhere in the south?  Offer one class per year there, install a football field.  hold practice there whenever you want.  BOOM.

I really don't see this as a big deal and i doubt many players or recruits do either. I know the SEC is full of shit and should drop it, but i mean... freaking 6 months before the season, WHO CARES. Contrary to belief around here, this is not and should not be a year-round sport

The NCAA justification:

Rationale: This proposal will provide student-athletes with additional opportunities to take advantage of regular academic year vacation periods when they are outside of the regular championship season (e.g., fall baseball or softball, spring football, spring soccer). It is important for student-athletes to have the opportunity to choose how they would like to spend their vacation time when such periods do not occur during the championship season. Additionally, this proposal will serve to reduce costs that are associated with travel to off-campus locations for the sole purpose of practice outside the championship season. This concept is consistent with other proposed parameters aimed at emphasizing student-athlete time balance.

Estimated Budget Impact: None.

Impact on Student-Athlete's Time (Academic and/or Athletics): More time away from athletically related activities during a vacation period outside the playing season.

Link (Pg 19)

So, how did the student athletes buy that rationale and analysis? Per Chengelis:

Interestingly, student-athletes on the 80-member autonomy board voted 11-4 against the proposal.

I don't think that Justice is going to be doing much in regards to anti-trust enforcement over the next four years. It's almost certain that Sprint and T-Mobile are going to be allowed to merge in the next year or two after that proposal had been shot down a few years back by the FTC and Justice.
