Yes, it should. I'm in the midst of my MBA at Xavier in Cincinnati. They have locations (handful of rooms in office buildings) in KY and about 30 minutes N where I attend. It all counts as part of their campus. I don't know why opening a UofM Fla location wouldn't be considered a part of the University.

ooohh oooh ooh what about online programs?!? Then campus is everywhere!

Just opened up a satilite campus in Miami.  I'm sure he has some property that's usable for football.

Or can they all have online classes ala Johnny Football and study online because the campus is anywhere where there's a wifi connection.

Nope, this excludes the winter training trip for women's rowing. Per the actual proposal

To specify that an off-campus practice (other than practice at an institution's regularly used off-campus practice facilities and other than the winter-training trip in women's rowing) unrelated to an away-from-home competition shall be prohibited during an institutional vacation period outside the institution's championship playing season.

Here's a link if anybody wants to read the full proposal. Link  It's on page 19

(other than practice at an institution's regularly used off campus practice facilities . .

What is Michigan's regularly used off-campus practice facility?

I think it should be Michigans gigantic new Florida Athletic/Academic training center!

You know, the one that students athletes use yearly (regularly) that has state of the art training facilities, an academic center, used by all michigan teams when traveling in the south.

Oh, did I forget to mention that whenever it's not currently in use it's free to any high school to use (make sure you schedule in advance!)

We typically have one of the earliest Spring Breaks, well before finals, so what if we held the practices a week before or after Spring Break?  Let the kids have their break and then spend practice and study hall on the beach?

Man, you sure like making grand statements without any thought don't you?

There's 80 voters, and there's only 65 Power Five teams, so we can't just assume this is a Power 5 thing.

Second, assuming that every SEC school, as well as every PAC and ACC school* voted against this, that's only 41 schools. So that's still 17 other schools that voted against this, even adding in the Big 12 schools leaves 4 schools that voted against it. Talk about an anti-Michigan SEC conspiracy all you want, but this was clearly very unpopular among Athletic Directors everywhere

*I feel like that's a big if too. Why would Boston College, or Pitt, or Washington State or Oregon State be against warm-weather practicing?

"Unpopular" because if they can't do it/afford it, no one can do it.

How many others would be willing to do this? They don't want to and they don't want people who do to get an advantage, so they're gonna get their cake and get to eat it, too.

How do you know that? Have you sat in on these meetings? Heard why these athletic directors are for or against it? Or are you just mouthing off about some anti-Michigan conspiracy because it fits into your narrow view?

*hint I think it's the second one*

That is wd's default defense. Deflect, deflect, deflect. He doesn't have the intellectual capacity, or knowledge to do anything else. He seems to be getting worse all the time.

It's the old "I know you are but what am I?" defense. Somehow... there are people here that continually buy it. There are always more that don't, but it's still fucking dumb. Loud noises rule the day. Idiocracy in action.

@Lionsfan - what other reason could it possibly be? You have 3 viable reasons not to like this:

1. You're a warm weather school who doesn't want other schools (like Michigan) coming to stake out your protected turf.

2. You're a poorer program who can't afford to do this so you don't want your richer neighbor to do it.

3. You don't like the idea of kids not being able to go on vacation however they please and since you're not going to do this, you don't want anyone else doing it just in case it gives them an advantage.

4. ????

All of those are consistent with WD's hypothesis - they don't want US to do it.

I'd love to see them work out a plan to "buy" the land at a high school in Florida/California/Texas/etc., use it for spring break, and then "sell" it back to the school at a vastly reduced rate. That way, everyone wins.

Poke the bear (UM) ?

If Manuel has any balls - which I question after the handling of the OSU officiating travesty - we would start scoping out sites across the states you mentioned (next door to pipeline high schools) as well as Hawaii and some other exotic destination.  Our endowment war chest is unmatched, time to put our alumni dollars to good use.

UM - Honolulo ; check

UM - Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Tallahassee ; check

UM - Dallas, Houston, Austin ; check

UM - Anaheim, San Fran ; check

etc

etc

etc

A torrent of complaints from other sports will be streaming in shortly.  So will the softball team have to fly back to Ann Arbor to conduct any practice sessions between their first 23 games?

I'm baffled by how biased and ridiculous the NCAA is. Then I remember everything else that has happened recently in this country and just shake my head.

Protecting children from the evils of school sponsored vacations.  They also ensure that athletes are well compensated monetarily for their efforts while in "school".

A property could easily be outfitted with virtual classrooms where the players can attend lectures live via video conference.

The team could hold spring ball while classes are happening. Then they don't even have to miss any school really.
