Sparty loses to Minnesota by 25!
December 28th, 2020 at 9:58 PM ^
Wow - at least they have a good footba (checks record), uh - never mind
December 28th, 2020 at 10:07 PM ^
In fairness, they did beat us this year in football. Gross.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:14 PM ^
their awful football team just kicked our asses, terrible take.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:22 PM ^
They beat us by 3, how did they kick our asses again? I know we should never have lost to them but they did not kick our asses. We had 452 total yards to their 449. We won the time of possession, had more first downs, better third down conversion and the same fourth down conversion rate. The one stat we lost was we had more penalty yards against us but that was because we couldn't touch their receivers and the announcers even called that out. Again, how did they kick our asses?
December 28th, 2020 at 10:27 PM ^
They won the game....
December 28th, 2020 at 10:34 PM ^
They did, and I said they did, but they did not kick our asses. The reason why people hate that loss so much is because of the ludicrous point spread that was put out. Neither team was good this year. They finished 2-5 and we were 2-4. The score difference is exactly what it prob should have been, unfortunately we were on the wrong side of it.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:47 PM ^
Put the shovel down.... we lost and they have Paul.
December 28th, 2020 at 11:00 PM ^
Nah, i'm gonna die on this hill, lol.
December 28th, 2020 at 11:28 PM ^
I can respect you planting the flag and all but that was the single worst experience I've ever had watching Michigan football. Worse than the OSU blowouts. At least the Buckeyes had real talent. State was bereft of talent. And they beat us! With somebody named Rocky Lombardi, an average MAC level quarterback, looking like Tom fucking Brady. Disgraceful.
Now that I have that out of my system, Tom Izzo seems like he has lost his team. Or lost his recruiting eye. And Juwan has the number one recruiting class coming in. The sun is setting on Tom Izzo and rising on Juwan Howard. A silver lining indeed.
December 28th, 2020 at 11:42 PM ^
Lord my man, don't do this, lol. Talk about planting a flag...this is exactly what we all thought was coming this year for Sparty on the gridiron. The sun had set on Mork and they hired a subpar coach. We all know how that ended, which has sparked this whole portion of the conversation. I dont think there is an entire athletic dept out there that drums up the disrespect better than MSU...Izzo will use this and channel it like Mork and their new coach ( can't remember his name) did.

December 29th, 2020 at 1:28 PM ^
The MSU loss this year was very painful but man Appy State and Toledo felt way worse to me. Even the Akron game, which was a win, felt worse. There is still a hole in my garage wall from the Appy game.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:53 PM ^
Considering that - a) they have "on paper" inferior talent, b) "on paper" inferior coaching and new head coach, and c) we were at home, thus a 3 point loss to them would be an ass kicking or if you prefer a disgraceful upset.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:27 PM ^
Well we were favored to win the game by ~23 points. So, you could consider their victory a ~26 point swing.
But yeah, MSU “kicking our asses” is a bit of a stretch perpetuated by the doomiest and gloomiest subsection of fans. At the end of the day, it was one shitty football team beating another shitty football team.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:31 PM ^
I think it was 25 but we should've never been favored by that much. One, we obviously were not a good team and very overrated and most importantly its a rivalry game that hardly ever has that type of win margin.
December 29th, 2020 at 8:01 AM ^
You're right - they didn't kick Michigan's ass. They won with dignity. We have the moral victory, though, because even though they scored more points, we tried hard! (Oh, wait, no, we really didn't...) Doesn't matter that we were ranked, favored, and just plain have 5x the recruited talent and much better paid and experienced staff, and were at home, we kept it close while scoring fewer points! YAY - no ass kicking here, nothing else to see, move along!!!
Kindly insert your moral victory into your sunshine hole. That was the worst defeat I've ever seen as a Michigan fan (been one since ~1970-71, whenever those first memory flashes occurred). I've never seen any other single loss so completely demoralize either the team or the entire fanbase that much. In that one game, probably 90% of the fanbase turned on Harbaugh.
But hey, they didn't kick our ass! It was only a 3 point loss!! YAY FOR US!!!!
December 29th, 2020 at 8:30 AM ^
lol at you trying to polish that turd. We were 20+ point favorites and ranked #13 in the country playing at home and MSU had just lost to Rutgers at home by 11.
You can point to ONLY losing by 3 if that makes you feel better and you want to be some hero on a message board. I on the other hand look at it as losing by 100 to a fucking horrid rival, because that's how it feels to me.
December 29th, 2020 at 9:51 AM ^
In all fairness, we were doing a helluva lot more than touching their receivers. We were molesting them. A true freshman was toying with our secondary. That's where the game was lost. Good thing we signed 1 corner though in this recruiting class, because our secondary will struggle mightily again next year.
December 28th, 2020 at 9:59 PM ^
Keep enjoying last place MSU!
December 28th, 2020 at 10:00 PM ^
Just another day in the Big Ten... in which msu is 0-3 and dead last in the conference.
Tough week for Izzo.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:50 PM ^
I heard he texted Jim for advice on how to deal with all the L’s.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:01 PM ^
Is it me, or did neither team play particularly well in this game? Minnesota was helped by the fact that Sparty didn't even bother to get off the bus, but I feel like the Gophers' ball movement and shot selection was pretty haphazard. Neither team looked good, but Sparty looked like ass whereas Minnesota looked mediocre.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:04 PM ^
The difference is that Minnesota got to play against MSU’s non-existent defense.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:04 PM ^
You’re not going to get a thing of beauty from a Richard Pitino-coached team.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:05 PM ^
Not just you, neither team played particularly well.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:22 PM ^
Minnesota’s guards love to jack up contested shots. I don’t think Carr and Mashburn played all that well. That being said, that Robbins kid was super impressive. MSU’s post defense is so bad I can’t wait to see what Garza does against them.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:31 PM ^
Yeah that Robbins kid was the only Minnesota player who played anything resembling a smart game. Marcus Carr jacked up a bunch of contested shots that happened to fall.
December 29th, 2020 at 8:01 AM ^
Interesting graphic that I saw during the little bit that I saw of the game; apparently, opposing teams' point guards are putting up ridiculous numbers v. State's defense. It's not just post defense that is bad.
December 28th, 2020 at 11:04 PM ^
This is how Richard Pitino's teams play. Its Helter Skelter as always for them. They play up and down and play a lot of one on one ball. When they have nights like this they can look good but they can't keep it up night in and night out.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:02 PM ^
It was glorious. I don’t think MSU is a very good team this year, but they looked especially bad tonight. MSU played 12 guys in the first half so it was a total team effort.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:06 PM ^
Were any of those 12 guys weird? Asking for a friend. A short, whiny little excuse-making friend who has no problem throwing others under the bus.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:03 PM ^
Last year good PG play and a rim protector took them a long way. This year they have neither.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
Today's internet winner.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:03 PM ^
Fortunately for MSU, but unfortunately for us, they play Nebraska next. They are just what the doctor ordered for a win when you are struggling.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:05 PM ^
Nebraska could say the same about Sparty.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:26 PM ^
Perhaps, and it would be glorious if they do beat them. You can't afford to lose to Nebraska.
December 29th, 2020 at 12:22 PM ^
Well done sir!
December 28th, 2020 at 10:06 PM ^
yes, but if they lose to nebraska too...hehe
December 28th, 2020 at 10:06 PM ^
It’s at Nebraska. With all of Nebraska’s height, they could be a match-up problem for MSU.
December 28th, 2020 at 10:05 PM ^
I just saw Izzo heading towards Lake Minnetonka.??
December 28th, 2020 at 10:09 PM ^
If the water level in Lake Minnetonka is a little low, I suppose some sweet and salty spartan tears won't do too much harm.
