Softball or Stanley Cup?

Submitted by StephenRKass on

Great win for the softball team tonight. Enjoyed watching it.

I'm curious:  will you be watching:

  1. Softball game.
  2. Stanley cup.
  3. Both.
  4. Neither.

I'll actually be watching neither to start, because of my son's little league game. However, as a Blackhawks fan, the Stanley Cup trumps women's softball for me.

I'm kind of curious how much the Stanley Cup has interest for non-Blackhawks non-Tampa Bay folks, both hockey and non-hockey fans. I know there are many, many Red Wings fans here on the board, who will either watch to see someone beat the Blackhawks, or not watch at all. Obviously, the Stanley Cup has limited interest for many on the board, but I'd love to hear who is actually watching it outside of Chicago fans.

As for me the recent creation of a new device called the DVR allows me to watch softball and eat pizza with my daughters, put them to bed, and then watch the Stanley Cup. I love the technology these kids have today!...that said I am on PST...so I have a few more hours in the evening to binge sports watch.

This is a Michigan sports blog, of course people should watch Michigan softball! Personally I have watched Michigan Football, M&W Basketball, Hockey, M&W XC, M&W track and wrestling all this year and not a single minute of NHL.

I'm definitely going for Tampa. Even though they ousted the Wings this year I like how they play and I like Cooper and obviously Yzerman. Plus, they aren't Chicago, whose only redeeming players for me are Kane and Saad from the Team USA connection.

I did think about this a couple days ago, as a Wings fan we pretty do much have something against every team in the league (and most have something against us), even moreso after moving to the East.

Is Michigan playing in the Stanley Cup? Let me clarify any perceived snark: Michigan has one game left to win a National Championship. The Stanley Cup is a marathon in its early stages, with two teams That don't have a block M anywhere on them. Game 3 in the best of 3 vs. Game 1 (I don't even know... 1 or 2??). Even if it was the Red Wings, this isn't even close for me.

nothing more intense than the Stanley Cup Finals... so of course I'll be watching the softball game.  Can't miss watching a Michigan team capture a National Championship.  Plus the Blackhawks suck.

Who the hell wastes their time to watch the Tampa Bay Lightning?  About as exciting as the Milwaukee Bucks.

I have to agree that with Michigan playing in the deciding and final game, that's the way to go. Plus, you can DVR the Stanley Cup and watch virtually all of it, skipping through commercials.

In terms of watching pleasure, apart from rooting interests, I definitely love Hockey. I can watch and enjoy good football, and good hockey, regardless of the team. I like basketball too, but not quite as much. Rooting interests come in more. As for the rest, I've yet to want to spend a lot of time watching baseball, softball, soccer, auto racing, Lacrosse, and others.

Just because Detroit was eliminated doesn't mean I won't watch.

Wanted the Rangers to make it after Detroit was bounced so I could go to the final games, oh well. Playoff hockey is so great. Will for sure check to see if the girls won though.

It's the fucking Stanley Cup. It could be (by some miracle realignment) Blackhawks vs Avalanche and I'd watch it.

Hockey is the best sport ever. Hand eye coordination of baseball, agility of basketball, physicality of football. All on ice. With few teeth.

I hope Blackhawks lose even though I am jealous of the players they have. Go Wings.

Son's HS state tourney lax game... at least from 7-9pm. Then hope to catch the end of M's (hopefully) NCAA win, then hockey

I'd only watch another championship sporting event over ours if it was the Red Wings, Tigers, Pistons, or Lions in the postseason and if it was Michigan football/basketball I'm watching our game regardless.

If possible both, but any second softball is on I will be watching that. Not sure if there's going to be any time they don't overlap.

But M softball is the priority and I'll only flip away during commercial breaks.

I've been down in Tampa for a while now and it's fairly easy to root for the Lightning if the result doesn't affect the Wings. Stamkos is an amazing talent (although people seem to think he's an asshole), I work with a few great fans and Yzerman was a childhood hero.

It also helps to view the Lightning job as an audition for Yzerman, so I want them to finish second in the east every year and for Canada to win all of the silvers.

Softball for sure. I gave up on pro hockey after the second lockout, but unless the Red Wings were playing, I'd choose softball anyway. If the Red Wings were in the finals, I'd have softball on one tv and the Red Wings on another.
