Softball or Stanley Cup?

Submitted by StephenRKass on

Great win for the softball team tonight. Enjoyed watching it.

I'm curious:  will you be watching:

  1. Softball game.
  2. Stanley cup.
  3. Both.
  4. Neither.

I'll actually be watching neither to start, because of my son's little league game. However, as a Blackhawks fan, the Stanley Cup trumps women's softball for me.

I'm kind of curious how much the Stanley Cup has interest for non-Blackhawks non-Tampa Bay folks, both hockey and non-hockey fans. I know there are many, many Red Wings fans here on the board, who will either watch to see someone beat the Blackhawks, or not watch at all. Obviously, the Stanley Cup has limited interest for many on the board, but I'd love to hear who is actually watching it outside of Chicago fans.

For you it goes:
1. Little League game
2. Softball/Cup
Never miss a little league game if you have the ability to be there.
For me it goes:
1. Softball
2. Cup
I like the third period the best and the softball game should be over by then.

But seriously- this is a good question. It shows how much of a Michigan fan you are when you put it along a spectrum of other sporting events. Michigan always trumps any other college or pro event. Period.

I think most people on this site are (die hard) Michigan football fans, not Michigan athletics fans. Regardless, my statement holds true for myself (and I am sure many others). I would watch a Michigan regular season softball game over any posteason game in any pro sport.

My son's Little League game starts at 8!!! Talk about terrible timing! I'll be monitoring the softball game via Mgoblog and the watch ESPN app. I do like the Stanley Cup, even when the Wings are out of it, but I really couldn't watch more than the 3rd period of any game not involving the Wings. And it's only game 1 tonight. I will say I find the NHL much more interesting than the NBA. I'll check the score of the NBA Finals just hoping that Cleveland doesn't win.

Idk how people can be Red Wings fans and root for the Hawks. Blows my mind.

Original 6 isn't an excuse to root for a rival, and you're rooting against Yzerman.

I'm from Tampa, so it's got to be the Cup tonight. Love all things Michigan, and I hope the ladies pull it out tonight, but I still have to go with hockey.

Neg away, my friends.

I don't get why. I am not going to neg you, but I don't get the reasoning.

If Tampa wins tonight, then what happens? They are 1/4 of the way to the title. If they lose, then Chicago is 1/4 of the way to the title.

With Michigan softball, this is the last game of the season regardless of the outcome.

If you don't care to watch softball, then sure, watch hockey. But if you like watching the softball team play, I don't understand how seeing us play a decisive game for the championship can be trumped by Game 1 of a Best of 7 series.

First, I am a lot more of a hockey fan than softball fan. Second, I don't have cable. Third, finding a bar that will air the softball game, here in Chicago, is nigh on impossible.

If I was able to flip on my TV, and watch the softball game, and DVR the Hockey game, that'd be the way I would go. I don't have that option. As mentioned above, I'll be starting with a Little League game anyway at 6pm CST.

Mostly, I know there are a fair number of hockey fans on the board here. What I was curious was whether they were:

  • fans of hockey
  • fans of MICHIGAN hockey (and college hockey)
  • fans of RED WINGS hockey

Generally, I enjoy a watching a good game of football, hockey, or basketball. After that, my interest wanes considerably.

Actually I think the softball game would be on most places with a bunch of TV's since it's airing on ESPN. It seems like most sports bars keep a few TV's on ESPN at all times.

I watched the Florida/Auburn semifinal game at a Red Robin wholly by accident, and that was ESPN2 I believe.

The Bolts are everywhere we look. The atmosphere down here is electric... this may as well be Game 7! Tampa/St. Pete/Clearwater is a hockey town, without a doubt, and the Bolts have been GREAT for us for 10 years. There's no basketball, no football (Buccaneers), and the Rays rarely draw 10k fans unless the Yankees are here. Just because it's practically our civic duty to support the Bolts doesn't mean we can't support Michigan, but imagine what the atmosphere of a Detroit without the Tigers, Pistons, or Lions would be like if it were the Redwings playing for the Cup instead! Here's hoping there's a TV with softball on; but all alliegences aside, everyone within a 25 mile radius is going out for one reason tonight...

Michigan softball all day long

1. Interest in Michigan sports >>> non-Michigan sports

2. Cynicism with student athletes <<< professional athletes

3. Michigan Softball with Coach Hutch is an elite, national program. We are very fortunate to have this opportunity.
