Submitted by LSAClassOf2000 on

This will be the snowflake thread for your collective thoughts on the offense and the offensive playcalling.

Borges called a decent game today.  He went away from the run too much though, IMO, and the bootlegs need to stop.  Devin is still clearly not fully in the game mentally and we had a few key drops that stalled drives.

You could see that last week especially.  There was one play where Nebraska blitzed and Fitz actually picked it up, but as soon as the defender hit Fitz, Gardner turned and tried to bail, running right into a sack.

It looked like running for a few first downs in the 4th quarter really settled Gardner down today.  Hopefully he keeps that up; we won't have shot at Ohio without him playing his best (not that we have a great shot either way).

Those bashing (not all are being "mean" about it, to be fair) Touissant realize he probably could have gained yardage today as well, when the chances were there?  I'm probably pro-Green right now but I don't think Fitz ever had a shot at success this season.  Green et. al. were getting nothing before this game just like Fitz was getting nothing.

Edit:  Pass protection is something I wasn't thining about typing this, so there's that.

The O was ugly but improved. But these kids just played their butts off. Sure, we eeked out a win against a struggling team but there's no questioning our effort. I'm proud of this team for fighting for a win, and I feel for the 'Cats. Who cares about anything else right now? This is why I love college football.

This game made it pretty clear to me that we need to put Morris in and move Gardner back to receiver (whether this year or next). I love Gardner and know he's a gamer but he is just not a good qb. He improved throughout the game and there were even a few times he looked off coverage but he continually telegraphs passes and makes bad decisions. He should be much better by now but at this point he is what he is.  I'm willing to keep borges around and see what he can do with Morris at the helm.

On a positive note, our oline didn't look like a tire fire and it looks like we found a starting tailback who can block competently and grind out 3-4 yard runs consistently.

I don't know what Shane can do but I'm willing to give it a go. I'm hoping with more consistent qb play, we wouldn't need Shane to do the same thing at the end. If you don't think we were lucky that several of DG's passes didn't get intercepted and taken to the house, then I'd question whether you yourself watched the game.

Yes, I would be in favor (maybe not this year) of putting in morris and switching devin to wr. I'm not sure why it's that difficult to understand, he is not a good quarterback and seems to be regressing. The only thing I can hope is that the two ot td drives give Gardner confidence in the pocket going forward because he sure didn't have it the vast majority of the game.

I would love it if there were a coaching change-up and suddenly Gardner gets the coaching he deserves to become a pocket presence. Unfortunately, I don't see that happening so I'd personally rather have a qb more suited to Borges's system (which I think we're stuck with).

Hey Al, what you called in OT, DO THAT EVERY GAME FROM NOW ON. Looks like Fitz's Michigan career is over. Welcome to the show, Green and Smith.

But the OL was actually creating holes and push early in the game too. The first drive of the game featured quite a few successful runs...it wasn't like the run game appeared out of nowhere in OT.

It sure did help to have an RB who hit defenders hard and drove forward. Green consistently kept churning guys for an extra 2-3 yards...it was refreshing to see.

Exactly - can this fan base enjoy a win? We have our issues, which has been well documented (understatement I know). Majority of the game was ugly for both teams, but it became a really exciting and enjoyable game at the end. We saw that we have two very talented freshmen running backs. Hit a thrilling quick field goal to force OT. Won in triple overtime on the road. I for one want to be able to enjoy the win - enjoyment is why we are fans or at least it should be why. If I didn't not know better, looking at the board, I would think that we lost.

Well, it took a questionably legitimate last second miracle and about ten dropped INTs by NW to beat a winless Big Ten team. If Funchess doesn't luckily roll over on that fumble or if one more second is off the clock in regulation, we lose. I would be pissed if I were the NW fan. They should have won this game. Felt like a loss to me. I enjoy it when we play well, look prepared, and realize our potential. It's more than a binary outcome for me.
