Maybe another team to have to worry about?

I think he'll be back in a couple of years.

IF they had a QB worth a damn, they would scare me for Harbaugh. No QB = nothing to see here, though.  Not to mention: I think they have to shed something like 70 Million off the cap this year. It's gonna be a long rebuild in New Orleans.

The fact that Bieniemy hasn't gotten a HC gig yet tells me one of two things:

1) He's comfortable in the position he's in and doesn't want to be a head coach. Or:

2) He does want to be a HC, but he doesn't interview well or the consensus behind the scenes is that Andy Reid, not Bieniemy, is what makes that offense go.

I don't follow him closely enough to know which it is one way or the other, but there are plenty of other guys who, at least on paper, have less qualifications than him but still get head coaching jobs. So the fact that he doesn't have one right now would give me pause before I considered offering him the job. Interview him? For sure, but I don't know about hiring just yet.

BTW.  For those who don't know.  Sean Payton went to Eastern Illinois.  Its a school in the middle of nowhere (Charleston, IL).  There is really no discernible qualities about EIU, but it strangely pumps out some good football talent.  Tony Romo, Jimmy Garoppolo, Mike Shanahan, etc.

And it's also the site of the very first Jimmy John's sandwich shop (who the the founder who went to EIU)

EIU does pump out all that football talent ........ but they aren't even really good at the level they play at!  Their all-time record is basically .500 (a handful of games above), and they're 4-16 all-time in FCS playoff games, never having once made it to the semifinals.

They're one of 7 schools that have produced multiple Super Bowl winning coaches.  Arkansas (JJ & Switzer) is the only one of the 7 that is a Power school.  The other 6 are EIU, BYU, Dayton, Miami University (cradle of coaches!), Pacific and San Jose State.

I didn't know the Jimmy John's stat - that is interesting.  I DO know that EIU and Charleston is a bustling metropolis in comparison to WIU and Macomb.  Macomb is on the far ends of the earth.

Who's their QB? Right now they don't have one, and they are in the literal definition of salary cap hell. I think that's at least part of why Payton is moving on. There is no immediate future there that involves real winning.

I'm not sure we have too much to worry about from Harbaugh on this one. New Orleans has a lot of talented pieces for sure, but there is no one under center they can rely on to lead the team to the playoffs, and they have no money to be able to go out and get someone that they'd need to get to fill that void.

They're going to end up having to dump some of those pieces just to get under the cap, and that really limits their ceiling as a team next year.

Much more likely that I instead start going 'content or delete' when I notice a deficient OP early enough (before it gets numerous comments).

Could you imagine any of our front page staff posting content-free content?

I'm confused. Is this a retire, as in move to a beach hut and drink mai tais all day? Or is it a Urban Meyer "retire" where he looks around for the next good opportunity since NO is in cap trouble?

Yeah, agreed -- I mean, the Saints...won the Super Bowl?

I grew up in the mid-70s/early 80s, and still remember just how putrid the franchise was. And then, in the late 80s/early 90s, they found some measure of success, only to totally blow it in the first round of the playoffs -- and thus began another VERY LONG losing streak, that lasted until 2006, when Payton came in. Their record in 2005 was 3-13. And it was 10-6 in 2006, with a division championship.

Dude was a solid coach. I know that the 2006 season also came with the signing of Drew Brees, but still.

IMO, not worried about this opening at all.  They are so screwed with their cap space

Negative $74M in cap space....good luck there Saints.  With no QB either.  I cant believe they are paying Lattimore $27M...oof.
