Se'Von Pittman leaving OSU
according to 11warriors Se'Von Pittman has been granted his release. I believe he was a guy with heavy interest in Michigan at one point, he must have seen the writing on the wall with all the young, talented, DE's osu has. He seems like a talented kid. It will be interesting to see where he ends up.
It could have been a "maybe you should go some place where you can get more playing time" type thing. Or maybe he was just unhappy there.
/inner circle
He stayed at OSU about as long as he was committed to MSU.
Little brother syndrome is strong over there.
Yes. He was one of the first of Urban's flips.
The Columbus Dispatch is reporting that it had to do with "off-field issues."

If you are not a starter, any screw-up and you are out
He did deal with injuries, but the consensus was that he'd compete. Now maybe with Washington and Spence combining for something like 400 snaps as true freshman, he saw his chances slip, but I think the injury made the situation worse, and there's always the chance that he's one of the inevitably existent guys that don't end up buying into Meyer's pretty demanding system.
You mean he wasn't in the Inner Circle of Truth Trust?
Who was the last incoming transfer that had significant playing time for Michigan?
Grant Mason from Stanford?
I never realized he was a transfer. I guess he would be the answer to the question then as far as I know.
Totally forgot about Threet being from Tech.
Hoke & Co. would be pretty wary.
Se'Von tried committing to UM and Hoke passed on him... soon after he committed to MSU, and then Urban decided he wanted him and blessed him with an offer *cough cough.* I don't think Hoke would even take a peep at this kid
Lol, no he didn't. Stop the garbage "he tried to commit" stuff. He was always going to go to OSU if/when they offered. They finally offered, and he committed...end of story.
What are you talking about "wary"?

Edit - Beaten to the punch.
I don't know what the situation is, but if you're a defensive lineman and you don't like competing for a spot then OSU isn't the place for you right now.
to begin with and now it's bitng him in the ass. He really shoulda stayed committed to Sparty, he woulda got playing time there.
Would he have? Honestly, if he can't cut it at Ohio, why would he be able to at MSU? If someone leaves after their first year, there's something more than just playing time going on. Probably some additude type issues, but that's just a guess.
Well, Pittman entered in the same class as Noah Spence and Adolphus Washington, a year after Kenny Hayes and Steve Miller, and a year before Joey Bosa and Tyquan Lewis. It might be attitude issues, but there's also considerable talent there.
Michigan State...not so much.
I understand there's a lot of other talent to take snaps from him, but Pittman was also a consensus top-100 type talent with a lot of upside. And he didn't even give it the time to see how things shook up. Just seems short sighted, which speaks of the wrong type of additude to make really make it at the BCS level. MSU seems to take it's time developing players, so he might not have seen as much immediate playing time at MSU either.
I don't think MSU takes their time to develop players any more than other places. If you're good enough, you'll play.
When you bring in that many talented players in three classes, there are bound to be casualties. There were like 6 or 7 DE prospects who are 4-stars or better over the span of three classes. Since Pittman left, that just means that now Tracy Sprinkle or Chase Farris won't.
I'm just coming from the stand point that MSU doesn't have the blue chippers ohio does from A-Z, that's all
Would he have? Honestly, if he can't cut it at Ohio, why would he be able to at MSU?
Buckeye rejects are always welcome in East Lansing.
Urban Meyer has a tradition that every freshman has to put a piece of black tape on their helmet, a right of passage. As the players work harder and meet their goals during camp, an upperclassman removes it. From what I read, Pittman was the only freshman who did not lose his black stripe.
Hate to say it but I like that. I really like what that symbolizes on all levels. I'm sure we do something simillar but got to give the devil his due.....that is a pretty cool tradition.
Rich Rodriguez tried something similar. In particular, I remember Jerald Robinson, Tate Forcier, and Austin White all having to "earn their wings." Obviously, all those guys have transferred since.
And today's news of the Devin redshirt allows me to read about Tate and his wingless attitude without getting all riled up about burning Devin's redshirt.
I always thought that his problem was, and Tate is a good example, he only knew who to tear players down and that doesn't work with everyone.
I think of justin turner too.
I am not condoning or condeming richrod, just saying that the 'wings' program is a good example of negetive reinforcement.
jdon
Some kids just don't respond well to criticism or accept being challenged. Unfortunately, our quarterback was one of those types of kids. Justin Turner was just a lost cause.
It's all perception.
Giving all the freshman a stripe and having them work towards losing it is good. Everybody does it, you earn the right to be a part of the team. If the player fails it's his fault, not the coaches.
Taking something away from a select few who are underperforming is bad, now it's not a right of passage it's a punishment. You singled out a player in front of his teammates and embarrassed him, there's no going back from that.
Negative punishment NOT negative reinforcement.
As opposed to positive punishment?
Actually yes.
With your avatar AT ALL.
Yeah, it was very disappointing to see how he tore down Denard and Taylor. You'd think he would have learned how to positively motivate players after the disaster with Pat White and Steve Slaton.
I'm pretty sure most programs have something similar if not quite as ritualized. I must say, I really do like the idea of an upperclassman removing the tape; builds more community in the team than a coach doing it.
I actually kinda like this idea too. It makes sure that the kids don't get too cocky and understand that just because they might have been highly touted coming out of high school, there are still guys that have been in the program longer and and know what it takes to make it at their school. I thought I remembered hearing stories about Meyer doing something with pink jerseys too, but I don't think it had to do with freshman.
