Everytime he speaks it sounds like he knows next to nothing about college athletics which is why getting Hackett is so impressive when we've had athletic people whiff on Miles and Harbaugh multiple times.

The most competent people are good at recognizing where they're lacking. I'm sure there's a clever and timely tie in to Socratic ignorance that I'm missing here, but oh well.

Schlissel obviously isn't the most plugged in guy to NCAA athletics, but he clearly identified and sought good council, which is exactly what a good leader should do.

you are ABSOLUTLEY RIGHT.

There was a study done that proved this exact point.  It was shown that the smarter a person was, the more likely they were to be able to recognize their own weaknesses.

So you're exactly right--Schlissel is smart enough to understand that he knows NOTHING about big time college athletics and desperately needed to go get someone like Hackett who not only understood athletics at the Division 1-A level, not only understood Michigan, but had been a long-time successful CEO who had dealt with some major crises..

The most dangerous people in charge are the ones that are just dumb enough to not understand that they they don't really know what they are doing.

My wife publishes books "For Dummies" and it's pretty obvious that only smart people buy them. Smart people know they have a lack of knowledge and seek it out. Dumb people would be offended too much to own a book like that.

They'd not only be too offended to own the book, but they'd think it was unnecessary. From my unfortunate experience with dumb people, one common demoninator is that they think they already know everything. (Just ask 'em - they'll tell you).

The hire, however, came at a steep cost: a reported minimum of $40.1 million for seven years, making Harbaugh the highest-paid coach in college football and on par with the highest-paid coaches in the NFL.

He's not even the highest paid in the B1G, let alone in all of CFB.

Come on DetNews, you're better than that (well...maybe not...)

From my understanding Adidas and ESPN/Disney are contributing big money for the HC (including Hutch, Red, ect.). I'll admit I'm out of my depth on specifics, since we were praising Schlissel for that above.

Edit to your edit: I don't know, you could be right but that wasn't my understanding. Sounds like something Mr. Yost might have an idea about.
