Saturday sports options.

So with basically all sports being shut down for awhile I thought maybe this could be a thread for any sporting events that may be going on. I wanted to mention on Saturday there is a UFC card that is going on in Brazil in an empty arena. I know there a few UFC fans here and some folks hate it as well, but the event has a very good main card and the UFC and ESPN have just moved the card from Espn+ to ESPN and ESPN deportes. They've also moved the start times up 2 hours with the prelims starting at 3 and the main card around six. If you're sports starved and don't mind some violence maybe give it a look. Post some others if you know of any.

I saw that advertised on the bottom corner of ESPN and wondered if it was just as canceled as the Formula 1 race they keep advertising that was canceled. Do they not have a way to stop advertising things that are not happening?

I'm watching the World Rally Championship in Mexico live right now; it's going all weekend.

They're not totally ignoring the virus, as they've already postponed their next round in Argentina, but they're on right now.

And... that's basically it.

Well at least we can watch the Atlanta Nascar race on Sunday -  Fox @ 2:00 pm. No spectators will be in the stands but at least the race is on.

English Premier League announced this evening that matches for going to go on as scheduled this weekend...but then Arsenal's manager tested positive moments later and now some players have too.   Officials will meet tomorrow morning.  At the very least this weekend's matches they'll announce are being suspended, and maybe more.  Sucks to be a Liverpool fan about now.

I hope ESPN goes back to its original programming, and just shows old Aussie Rules Football games, maybe some competitive miniature golf, and the America's Cup where the boat sank.  I have a feeling it's going to be constant 30 for 30 marathons and the 2019 WSOP until baseball comes back.

A bunch of my friends and I play basketball on Sundays.  We've debated what it would be like with some fans in the stands watching us huff and puff through some half court hoops.

Feel free to come watch.

This would be soooo much better in the summer. You could cut the baseball season in half and feel like you didn't really miss much -- but 2 years without March Madness is just brutal.

As of right now the Indycar race at St. Pete is still on (no fans).  Though there is now some internet chatter that it might get canceled as well and that announcement will come sometime this morning.

Well, the NFL calendar year is still starting next week as scheduled, so at least we can still watch free agency madness go into full swing. Beyond that I got nothing.

I’m curious what they’ll be doing with the draft. Will it just be an empty auditorium with Goodell and the commentators?

It's in Vegas this year and all the glitz that surrounds the actual draft will be just as important.  The players are/were going to be taken to the podium across the casino pond in a boat.

Maybe this will bring major sports back down to earth and concentrate more on what's played on the field and not all the accessory Hollywood PR.

If this alert continues through the summer, a bigger question comes into play:  Who pays the players salaries?

If owners must pay players for games not played, they will lose $100 to $200 million.  Do players get paid on a game/game basis.  If they take it out of the players salaries, what does the union say?

Not to mention the new TV contracts that are contingent on games being played.

Looks like this will be the major sports combat to watch in the coming months ;o)

For soccer fans, many leagues haven't yet cancelled: Bundesliga, Australian A League, Mexican Liga, Russian Premier League, and the Israeli Premier League.

Also something called Super League rugby.

Think I'll watch a couple of my son's HS games on Youtube, including State championship game. Feel bad for the all the high school kids who's state championship basketball and hockey games were cancelled, especially the seniors.

The NASCAR race in Atlanta is still on for now, as is the IndyCar race in St. Petersburg. Both are being run without spectators but are on TV. For now at least. Everything is happening so quickly.

Hallmark. you know the one with the football/baseball/hockey player that goes to his hometown and falls back in love with the cheerleader?  And ditches the super-hot model?

That one. yeah, I'll be watching that.

I recommend a good movie.  An appropriate one would be The Omega Man. I believe it is a silly enough, plus the overly dramatic Charlton Heston, movie for this time.
