I think this violates the no stealing from premium sites rule. While sometimes posting the info is allowed, you posted all of the info there really is. I don't intend to criticize you, but don't be surprised if this gets taken down.

Can someone fill in the cliffhanger  for me?

Multiple sources informed The Michigan Insider Wednesday that Michigan headman Jim Harbaugh reached out to Tampa Bay Buccaneers outside linebackers coach and former Michigan

Former Michigan WHAT? If only the OP had stolen some more of that sweet sweet premium article to finish the phrase. I won't be able to sleep tonight as I ponder what the rest of the sentence could possibly be.

It's a headline and not the main copy of the article. FWIW, I don't see a problem. Sam would probably be cool with the site generating clicks to his website where people could pay if they were inclined.

Posted this in the other thread but the Bucs & Jags may be looking at him as a DC too. Todd Bowles the current Tampa DC may get a HC gig and Leftwich the likely new Jacksonville coach may want to bring him on as his new defensive coordinator. Would love to see him brought back to Ann Arbor but we may need to wait a second before he is hired.

I saw somewhere he was in line to be Tampa's DC if Todd Bowles leaves. And pretty sure he's said in the past if he does come back to Michigan it'd only be as a DC or HC.

Seems very similar to how Macdonald was 'next' in line with Baltimore, at the very least being groomed for a DC job down the line.

While I'd welcome Foote back with open arms, and appreciate an NFL defensive mind again, I do wonder if he'd even stay 2-3 years (which for a good coordinator is about all I'd expect these days - which is a good problem to have) or if he'd bolt back to the NFL at the first chance.

No idea how big a factor the recruiting grind is for former NFL coaches, but it seems like it's a very real consideration in evaluating NFL guys for the college level. Personally, I would not want to deal with it, but that's just me.

I think Foote's connection to Michigan as a player means he would be more likely to stay at least a few years before jumping to an NFL opening. Michigan can give him job security the NFL can't, most NFL coordinators are replacing guys who just got fired or joining a whole new staff for a team that cleaned house.

McDonald had much less of a reason to stay, his college career was at Georgia, not here.

I guess I don't hate it - you gotta hire up and comers at some point, but Foote doesn't seem to have any DC experience or any college experience / recruiting experience. Could be boom or bust

You're not wrong that "if you're a good coach, you're a good coach", but it sure is easier to tell if someone is good at something when they have a track record of doing the thing you're hiring them to do. That being said, after last offseason's hires, I do trust Harbaugh to spot talent before it's had a chance to full show itself.

You saw hiring a man who'd been a college d coordinator, asst coach and head coach, with the number 1 defense in the country at the time as a risk. But hiring someone who has literally never coached the position with no relevant experience as a home run?  Hmmmkay. I don't trust your enthusiasm Buddy.

Hey I'm totally down with hiring Foote for one year like MacDonald as long as he promises to beat OSU, win the B1G East, win the B1G Championship and get us into the final four.

Then go off and do your thing in the NFL Larry.  Think of this gig like a summer internship program or something.
