Rutgers WR Leonte Caroo charged with slamming woman on concrete
Well, there was a thread on this the other day that Rutgers only player of any note, Leonte Caroo, was suspended indefinitely for an indisclosed incident after their loss to Washington State.
Details have come on and they are not good.
Caroo has been charged with an attack on a woman outside Rutgers' stadium after their game.
(Caroo) was charged with assaulting the woman, with whom he had been romantically involved, by “picking her up and slamming her down on a concrete surface, injuring her left hip, both palms, left elbow and left side of the head"

Considering how brutal this attack was, the $1,000 bail is shocking.

Bail is not supposed to be punitive.

Thank you. Sadly, bail HAS become punitive. We could cut a huge percentage of our jail/prison population down if we just released more folks on bail.

but then I remembered this is a Michigan sports blog ... and I'm neither a government-slappy nor a John Oliver-slappy.
For the love of Harbaugh, I hope the bond topic debate goes to a political board.

The reason is because it was charged only as a simple assault under DV. The victim was one of the hired recruiting hostesses and Carroo had a prior relationship with her. His current GF confronted the victim and attacked her. Carroo went out of the lockerroom to confront them and he ended up picking up the victim and dropping her.
The Rutgers police made the arrest and the case is before the Piscataway municipal court. Due to the level of injuries, it has not been elevated to a higher court.

that during the course of him breaking up this fight he just pulled the victim off of his girlfriend and dropped her? If he didn't intentionally throw her to the ground he might be able to get the charges dismissed.

Yea, anything is possible at this point. Story is open to interpretation. Apparently, there were many witnesses, however, since this happened shortly (45 min) after their game ended right outside the stadium (in the parking lot).
September 17th, 2015 at 12:25 PM ^
As I obviously wasn't there, but I wouldn't be surprised if that's what happened. I once saw a similar situation play out in public. No police involvement though.
September 17th, 2015 at 12:25 PM ^
Yeah, the details of this incident are awfully murky. Of course the victim (and the charging document) is going to say she was "slammed" to the concrete and "pile-drived" -- and of course Carroo's defenders are going to say he only separated the women and didn't mean to hurt her. And Carroo has surely been advised by counsel not to say anything further at this point.
It seems unlikely we'll ever really get a reliable account of what really happened. But if she was badly injured, I would tend to think he Carroo really did go too far. If she just had a minor bruise or scrape, then I would suspect she is embellishing the story.

Flood is off some where going "He barely touched her!"

Flood was smart and sent the bribery offers from his personal e-mail account instead of his work account.
September 17th, 2015 at 2:35 PM ^
I think he sent an email to the police and DA (from his private account, of course, so it would not be subject to a public vetting) asking that the charges be dismissed.

When did the prior relationship with the recruiting hostess start? On his recruting trip?

Terrible. Throw him in prison for a long time. A woman should NEVER be treated like this.

"Donald Trump is a terrible person that deserves to be body-slammed into the pavement" is not a political statement-- it's 99% of the way to being a fact. But if there's one thing I've learned from House of Cards, it's that terrible people can make great politicians.

Wow. If this is true, then Rutgers needs to step up and kick him off the team in addition to any legal/criminal charges.

Wait, did he do the same thing to two different women, or twice to the same women? The block quote is unclear as to which.

taught at the Rutgers medical school for many years--I really thought the move to the B1G was going to help lift that program from its mediocrity. Instead, with a pretty dreadful swiftness, they have become a liability and worse.
Wonder what legal recourse the B1G might have to wiggle away from them.
September 17th, 2015 at 12:42 PM ^
Considering we still have penn state in the B1G, there is almost nothing Rutgers can do that could even ever come close. BTW - FUCK penn state!

Wonder what legal recourse New Jersey might have to wiggle away from them.

Darius Hamilton is also of note. I've heard a lot of different stories about what happened, but most have the same base. Some say he seperated the two girls and accidently pushed the one girl hard and she fell. I'm sure the truth will come out soon though.

...he'll be playing on Sundays next fall. I hate just about everything about the NFL other than, you know, how awesome football is.
September 17th, 2015 at 12:08 PM ^
It's not like he did something serious. Like allegedly tacitly condoning the deflation of footballs. The NFL has certain behaviors up with which it will not put!
(Beating children, beating women, rape? Second tier by the NFL's lights. I loved Bill Simmons's line regarding the NFL. He was talking about the pink-themed October the NFL puts on, and said "October is the month that the NFL pretends it cares about women".)

choosing the right men for their football program, as I assume they have the usual awareness programs and rules in place to try and prevent assaults like this.
September 17th, 2015 at 12:15 PM ^
They are sacrificing character in order to get higher levels of talent that Michigan wouldn't touch. Having to compete in the B1G means they need better talent, but the better talent that can go somewhere else, will.
September 17th, 2015 at 11:56 AM ^
Ugly, ugly incident. Rutgers suspension seems secondary to what will hopefully be a prosecuted criminal case.
