Roll call for tomorrow's battle for the Little Brown Jug
There's still a game to be played by the team wearing winged helmets. It's another chance to visit Ann Arbor, maybe have a couple beers beforehand, stroll around campus, listen to the band, and watch the only football game at the Big House. Blue in South Bend referenced the "actuarial tables" that says he might have 400-450 more home games left on this earth. I'm older than Blue. My tables suggest I better get to every damn game I can. My son is already a junior. Unless UM Dental School comes calling, my chances of seeing a game while he's still a student are nearing single digits.
So? Who's putting all the BS aside and going to the game tomorrow?
This guy will be there. Section 23 Row 72. My wife and I were supposed to drive down to Alabama to see our daughter, but she told us to postpone until next week. (Unfortunate timing. I had tickets to the Michigan Rutgers game. I was going to meet my buddy in Manhattan, enjoy the Big Apple Friday night, meet up with my cousins in Brooklyn on Saturday afternoon, then head on over to NJ for the game. The best laid plans.... Shit bags.)
Hail to the colors that float in the light
Hurray for the Yellow and Blue

I did some yardwork last weekend and really messed up my maize 2003 student football game t-shirt thing, so I threw it away. I'm hoping that will be the difference. Nothing good has happened since then, at least according to this Blog, so it must be the shirt. Yep, that's what I'm going with until proven wrong tomorrow.
M-16, M-7
But which M is which? I'll tell you Sunday.

Driving in from Chicago with a friend. We're meeting up with old high school & college people and catching the game. My friends are feeling patriotic so I think we're going to Rick's American Cafe tonight. The Yelp reviews are strange considering it's a cafe.

so I'll be there.

I can't make it. Just the 2nd home game in the last 6 year I'll have missed. I'll be watching from the library though.

By the athletic department's count, yes, we've 'officially' hit 100,000 people responding yes to this thread! Hooray everyone! All is well!

My daughter's third. My eleventh (!) time witnessing the battle for the Brown Jug in person.

100-3? You're kicking her ass! In your face, daughter of Evil Empire!

I had attended 82 by the time she was born, and her win % and average score are better (.803 for me, 1.000 for her, 32-16 for me, 44-7 for her). I'm sure she would report me to my wife if I taunted her.

September 26th, 2014 at 4:26 PM ^
Gonna go to the bars and pretend I'm an undergrad again and stroll into the stadium around kickoff. Can't wait.

Tomorrow I'll be on Middle Bass Island on Lake Erie. The weather forecast calls for absolutely georgous weather and for the first time in what' got ot be at LEAST 35 to maybe even 40 years I am considering not attending, not watching or even listening to the game. I'm thinking of going fishing and as God is my witness I cannot remember any Saturday, since I was about 15 years old, where an autumn Saturday didnt mean finding a way to go, watch or listen to Michigan football.
I'm not mad like ProfitgoBlue. This isn't some sort of protest statement (I still want them to win very much and I'll still watch if I dont go fishing) but it's the realization that at least right now - I just don't care that much anymore what happens - good or bad - and the prospect of catching walleye or perch seems more attractive to me than the game tomorrow.
September 26th, 2014 at 4:42 PM ^
Awesome...I'm fishing on Lake Erie tomorrow morning...I'm really hoping for a literal boatload of walleye and perch.

Back in 95, I was so disgusted with our 3 conference losses that I chose to go hunting instead of attend the OSU game. I sat in the woods not knowing Biakabatuba put on one of the greatest performances in the history of The Game.
Enjoy your day on the water.
September 26th, 2014 at 4:58 PM ^
Eh, they're a big difference between missing a game then The Game. Even the best possible outcome of this game is still hampered by the fact that it's Minnesota (as opposed to a rivalry game or a top-25 matchup).
September 26th, 2014 at 5:01 PM ^
I saw most of The Game that year...but my Dad's friend somehow convinced us to go to the MSU/Penn State game with him for free.
We spent the entire day quietly rooting against MSU, who lost 24-20. It was a great day all around.

hope he's doing OK.
Also, fishing is much like our offense. Just sitting there, not moving much. It will be like you are there.
September 26th, 2014 at 5:16 PM ^
Mabel you are definitely on your game today. You've posted two or three comments that have made me laugh out loud - this being one of them.
September 26th, 2014 at 5:23 PM ^
Don't pay attention to the game, man. Enjoy your grizzled beard, sweet boat, and hot wife instead.

Face it, you'll be listening. No matter how painful it gets, a fan with that type of pedigree will return to the radio or tv like a swan returning to capistrano. I was 5, 1958 to be exact, when my Dad and Mom started taking me to AA, which is where i was born during his last year of law school. We ate at the Old German after almost every game, or stayed a Weber's.
There were some lean years in those early times, and i witnessed the resurgence to our customary position. The end of Carr and his lazy complacency, the petty bickering that derailed RR and his total disregard of defense, the huckerism and egotism of Brandon (still feeling inferior perhaps after all those years on the end of the bench), and now the bumbling leadership of BH...
It's always darkest before the dawn. I know what I would do if they made me king, or at least President of UM. Somehow it will work out. Let's hope it is not too much longer. It seems real damage is starting to be done.
One thing is for sure though, you'll be listening. Thanks for the contributions.

make the drive up from Indy. I'll be in Chicago for engagement photos. I'll sure as hell be tuning into the game though. Nothing ever stops that.
September 26th, 2014 at 7:10 PM ^
We often hear takes on 'never get married on a Saturday in the Fall'.
Never considered the 'never take engagement photos on a Saturday in the Fall' issue.
When's the wedding?
Brandon might be able to put together a football Saturday engagement photo package at the big house.
(with Coke products and a lunch catered by Arby's and Kraft).

As always. I believe the home crowd is a big advantage when the defense is playing by being loud. That's the only way I can really help at this point and I will do all I can.
