RIP Jimmy Buffett

I'm absolutely devastated. A musical hero of mine gone too soon.

Saw him at Fenway, Wrigley among other places. Such a great story teller...

Appreciate what he has contributed to pop culture in general but, not personally a fan of his music.

Where I live, they are in the middle of constructing one of his resorts, and believe the original idea was to have Jimmy there for the ribbon cutting ceremony next year.

He was the same age as my Dad, and is another reminder on how precious life really is.

RIP Jimmy Buffett

oh, sad.  one of my all-time favorites.  introduced to his music at U of M, saw him a number of times in concert, all of them last century.  may he rest in peace.

EDIT:  providentially, was playing some 'buffet live' stuff last night at home.  little did i know.

I saw him at Hill Auditorium in 1978, when I was a senior undergrad. Terrific showman, even though the show wasn't as nearly over-the-top with props and stuff as later. He'd only done 2 albums by that time.

Got in free, because a buddy signed me up to a "job" as an usher. The training consisted of giving me a flashlight and telling me to shine it on anyone who was smoking weed or drinking beer and telling tell them to stop. Needless to say, my classmates were undeterred.

This is horrible. I didn’t even realize he was sick. Every year when I go to key west, margaritaville is the first place I hit up. I’ve tried to support him through landshark sales like no one else. This is a real gut punch.

One of the few things that could have got me down this opening day has happened.  His music is unique and special and really has the power to transport you back to the coast.

Thankfully, he no doubt lived a full life, and the music will never stop being that vessel.

Sad. Saw him at buckeye lake in Columbus of all places. Concert was an all day tailgate like Saturday football games. Had 2 kegs in the truck. Then afterward everyone passed out on the lawn till someone could drive home in the early morning

While he was rumored to not be the nicest guy in the world, his music was iconic. Never attaining industry acclaim, he just sold music people loved to listen to, and turn it into an entire industry unto itself. Like Sinatra, he did it his way. I think today's gametime menu will be cheeseburgers and margaritas. Fins up!

That’s sad news. I fell in love with his music about 8 years ago. Would hear one of his songs on the radio throughout my life but never paid much attention to it. Glad that changed. I listen to him everyday of the week through his radio station Margaritaville on XM Radio. Very few people come along and have the kind of impact on generations like he did through music and story telling.

NOOOO!!!!  Parrotheads around the world are having a sad on what should be a glorious day.  This sucks...  Saw him several times, and every one of his concerts was an epic tailgate scene that would rival any college football Saturday.  He always said he couldn't sing, but his songs were fun, they spoke to what we all go through and feel, and they transported us to the tropical places we always wished we could go.

Come Monday - about travelling for work and just wanting to be home with your family

Changes - about how much more relaxed you are in more inviting locales

Boat Drinks - Transport me out of winter and into a place where boat drinks are still served

Some of his songs were classics, others not so much - like every singer everywhere.  But he always made them fun, and always made you happy to see his show live.

RIP, Jimmy

Oh man this hits hard. My dad, RIP, was a late conversion to parrothead-ism and even when he was dying of cancer and had a feeding tube, some Jimmy would inevitably turn his mood positive. One of his last acts before hospice was to go to a jimmy buffet concert and man the blender for everyone else (pretty sure he snuck some pussers rum into his ensure shakes). Through COVID, I was on the driveway with six packs of beer listening to Margaritaville radio and waving to neighbors as they did their socially distanced walks. Kept my mental health at an even keel.

I will be listening to my Jimmy Spotify mix after the game today and enjoying some rum on the porch looking out at the lake. May St Peter ensure the winds through the pearly gates are soft and constant.

Can't say I'm the biggest Jimmy Buffet fan, but he had some songs I appreciate. One Particular Harbor is a good piece.

I also like his live cover of the Grateful Dead's "Uncle John's Band"
