Appreciate what he has contributed to pop culture in general but, not personally a fan of his music.
Where I live, they are in the middle of constructing one of his resorts, and believe the original idea was to have Jimmy there for the ribbon cutting ceremony next year.
He was the same age as my Dad, and is another reminder on how precious life really is.
RIP Jimmy Buffett

The Pina Colada song is my favorite.

Rupert Holmes agrees.

I know it’s just a song but the fact they are essentially planning on cheating on each other, and when they see what’s happening they just laugh it off and go back to normal life…never made sense
September 2nd, 2023 at 11:22 AM ^
It makes perfect sense. They both caught eachother about to initiate cheating with a person they perceived to be a perfect escape, only to learn it was eachother.
They fall in love again. It makes perfect sense.

oh, sad. one of my all-time favorites. introduced to his music at U of M, saw him a number of times in concert, all of them last century. may he rest in peace.
EDIT: providentially, was playing some 'buffet live' stuff last night at home. little did i know.

I saw him at Hill Auditorium in 1978, when I was a senior undergrad. Terrific showman, even though the show wasn't as nearly over-the-top with props and stuff as later. He'd only done 2 albums by that time.
Got in free, because a buddy signed me up to a "job" as an usher. The training consisted of giving me a flashlight and telling me to shine it on anyone who was smoking weed or drinking beer and telling tell them to stop. Needless to say, my classmates were undeterred.

I ushered my freshman year. It was awesome. Saw Elton john, Grateful Dead, Bob seger for free.

I do associate Jimmy Buffett with my days in Ann Arbor. Cheeseburger in Paradise was a standard on football Saturdays.

This is horrible. I didn’t even realize he was sick. Every year when I go to key west, margaritaville is the first place I hit up. I’ve tried to support him through landshark sales like no one else. This is a real gut punch.

One of the few things that could have got me down this opening day has happened. His music is unique and special and really has the power to transport you back to the coast.
Thankfully, he no doubt lived a full life, and the music will never stop being that vessel.

My dad was setting in sloppy joes bar when JB popped in one day in the 80s. I was in key west 3 weeks ago when Kenney Chesney did the same the same. Unfortunately I was getting my island buzz on down at the docks and missed the whole thing.

Saw him play at Jones Beach in a driving rainstorm. Not a person left. It was a pleasure and a hell of an evening.
RIP, Jimmy.

YouTube added a context box about AIDS to that video? Why no context box about Jimmy Buffett? He's obviously more popular than Cartman suggests he is.

I feel like my youth just died. Which it did, a long time ago, but this makes it official. I am unexpectedly tearing up over this.

You and me both

Sad. Saw him at buckeye lake in Columbus of all places. Concert was an all day tailgate like Saturday football games. Had 2 kegs in the truck. Then afterward everyone passed out on the lawn till someone could drive home in the early morning
September 2nd, 2023 at 10:20 AM ^
The all day tailgates were real...
September 2nd, 2023 at 7:50 AM ^
Didn’t need any more reason to blast cheeseburgers in paradise at the tailgate
September 2nd, 2023 at 7:52 AM ^
While he was rumored to not be the nicest guy in the world, his music was iconic. Never attaining industry acclaim, he just sold music people loved to listen to, and turn it into an entire industry unto itself. Like Sinatra, he did it his way. I think today's gametime menu will be cheeseburgers and margaritas. Fins up!

For quite a few years in a row he performed at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD.
I saw him perform at least half a dozen times.

I saw him a few years ago at A Capitol Fourth - RIP Jimmy B

Sad to see this in the news this morning. Tough loss for all. He brought a lot of happiness to a lot of people in this world.

That is absolutely sad news to read. He will have to watch from above as Michigan trounces everyone this year and become National Champions.

Nobody could pack them in at Pine Knob like Jimmy Buffet. A lot of sad Parrot Heads today. RIP Jimmy.

I'll have a cheeseburger in paradise as I waste away in Margaritaville...
Jimmy, I know that where you are at, it is always 5 o'clock...
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:08 AM ^
RIP
But he totally ripped of Pina Coladaburg from Coconut Pete
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:22 AM ^
Cheeseburger in Paradise by the band at halftime would be double entendre epic!!!
September 2nd, 2023 at 9:25 AM ^
That’s sad news. I fell in love with his music about 8 years ago. Would hear one of his songs on the radio throughout my life but never paid much attention to it. Glad that changed. I listen to him everyday of the week through his radio station Margaritaville on XM Radio. Very few people come along and have the kind of impact on generations like he did through music and story telling.
RIP JB

NOOOO!!!! Parrotheads around the world are having a sad on what should be a glorious day. This sucks... Saw him several times, and every one of his concerts was an epic tailgate scene that would rival any college football Saturday. He always said he couldn't sing, but his songs were fun, they spoke to what we all go through and feel, and they transported us to the tropical places we always wished we could go.
Come Monday - about travelling for work and just wanting to be home with your family
Changes - about how much more relaxed you are in more inviting locales
Boat Drinks - Transport me out of winter and into a place where boat drinks are still served
Some of his songs were classics, others not so much - like every singer everywhere. But he always made them fun, and always made you happy to see his show live.
RIP, Jimmy

Oh man this hits hard. My dad, RIP, was a late conversion to parrothead-ism and even when he was dying of cancer and had a feeding tube, some Jimmy would inevitably turn his mood positive. One of his last acts before hospice was to go to a jimmy buffet concert and man the blender for everyone else (pretty sure he snuck some pussers rum into his ensure shakes). Through COVID, I was on the driveway with six packs of beer listening to Margaritaville radio and waving to neighbors as they did their socially distanced walks. Kept my mental health at an even keel.
I will be listening to my Jimmy Spotify mix after the game today and enjoying some rum on the porch looking out at the lake. May St Peter ensure the winds through the pearly gates are soft and constant.

Can't say I'm the biggest Jimmy Buffet fan, but he had some songs I appreciate. One Particular Harbor is a good piece.
I also like his live cover of the Grateful Dead's "Uncle John's Band"

Scarlet Begonias is also a classic cover he did from the Dead. Great rendition.

Some of it’s magic, some of it’s tragic, but he had a good life all the way.
From Pascagoula to Nantucket, we will miss you, Jimmy! 🦩

Yacht Rock is not a thing without Buffett. He managed to create a whole genre.
