Report: Maryland tells B1G that Howard said "I'll f*****g kill you" to Turgeon

No idea how credible the source is.

Their story sounds eerily similar to the infamous confrontation between John Chaney and John Calipari way back in 1994. Mark Turgeon is 56 and has been around the block in the coaching world. If it's true that Turgeon is claiming this, could it be that he's drawing some inspiration from real life in crafting his story? Hmm...

would you believe that, after the “altercation”, I actually began to imagine, in my head, a kind of crazy guy coach who would say things like this to other coaches. I kind of got into character (crazy guy) and started saying crazy things in a crazy voice and actually said this exact thing! and then when I finished saying the crazy things I considered the possibility of a crazy guy coach like that at a big school like ours, and I said to myself “they would never allow this guy to keep coaching at this big school on account of because he’s too crazy.” so uh let’s hope this isn’t true.

I mean, if Howard was in “altercation mode,” I don’t really care what he said. On paper it reads as a very concerning threat.  But in what gets said during shit talk, I just wouldn’t get all worked up about it.  He clearly wasn’t offering insight into what he planned on doing.
In years of playing hockey, I had that phrase said to me probably 100 times. Athletes will do anything to gain an edge, try to tilt an opponent.
To me, this gets filed under “Sticks and Stones”

So you're worried about Michigan firing Howard because of something he allegedly said during a mutual escalation of argument?  And you base this on the fact that you said something to yourself in a crazy voice while trying to emulate and role play the event in your own head?

Are you 12?  Man, STFU...

One thing is tor sure - his incessant ‘telling on’ Coach Howard has accomplished essentially nothing for Turtlegeon. Warren basically ended all discussion and speculation on the B1G Network broadcast today. How many L’s is Turge going to take from Dickinson and Howard before all is said and done?

This altercation has been entirely overblown, by both sides. It's pretty clear that neither coach was taunting or bad-mouthing the other prior to the fracas that led to the techs/ejection of Coach Howard.

The video, and later explanations by Howard and Turgeon, give a pretty clear timeline of what actually occurred:

1. There is a 50/50 OOB call around the 10:30 mark of the game. The call goes against Michigan, MD will retain possession, and then a media timeout began directly after the stoppage of play.

2. Howard, who did not like the call giving MD possession, walks to exactly midcourt along the sideline, clearly motioning and yelling down to the referee along the opposite baseline.

3. Turgeon is near his teams' huddle, but notices Howard and says something to a referee who is standing near the logo at midcourt.

4. Howard refocuses his attention on Turgeon and seems to say something to the other coach.

Both coaches' explanations corroborate everything up to this point - Turgeon pointed out how Howard was out of the coaching box to a nearby official and Howard said something in response to Turgeon.

5. At this point Turgeon begins to yell directly at Howard while approaching the other coach.

6. Howard stands still for a moment then lashes back out at Turgeon; at this point multiple Michigan assistants place themselves between Howard and Turgeon.

7. All the benches empty and come together at midcourt while Howard continues to yell and push towards the MD bench.

8. The refs gain control and address the situation by delivering the necessary techs and ejection of Howard.

9. Howard, still upset at Turgeon, and now upset at the refs for ejecting only him, comes back towards midcourt after the benches are separated to deliver some more words to whomever is there.

This whole scenario should finally be put to bed. Just two coaches who let their emotions get the better of them. Howard certainly seemed to overreact more so than Turgeon, but the incident was also initiated by Turgeon.

Any rumors about Turgeon making degrading comments to Howard about the Fab Five or this season's championship banner are absolutely false.

This allegation that one MD insider has shared, about Howard making a death threat, is also absolutely false.

If you want a more visual breakdown, check out Stephen Osentoski's highlight video over at the Maize n Brew youtube channel. He goes through it pretty well: https://youtu.be/iUN8sE2Q94Y?t=860

Just wanted to respond to a comment near the top with few replies so more people could see thisl.

Impossible to know if he said this. I’m sure he was muffled through his mask, plus all the crowd noise. Do not believe.

Not only that I’ll lay this claim totally to bed.  That guy who tweeted it not only took it down his,”credible source was claimed to be courtside!”  IMPOSSIBLE!  There are no courtside seats even the commentary is 15 rows back!  Gtfoh

Exactly.  We will never be able to confirm with accuracy what was said.  Could Juwan have said this? Man he was pretty damn upset, so it’s possible.  Again I believe he reacted to a direct threat from Morsell or someone else who said something really bad.  Someone said something that hasn’t yet been reported but Maryland is taking the pansy way out.

In response we should say Turgeon used the N word to Howard.

Turgeon to Howard: do NOT speak to me.

We just don’t say the N word was NOT.

Agree.  Despite the craptastic whiny asshole that he is, calling out a racist comment that he (very much most likely) did not say would be complete bullshit.  That allegation - yes, just the allegation - is ending careers these days.  And it goes both ways - if the person actually said it, he's gone.  And if its proven that he did not say it, the accuser is gone.  That is not an accusation that can be taken lightly because the circumstances just don't matter.

Good stuff from Rex Chapman.   Love this action shot with RC trying to hold Juwan.

his first reply to his own post:

Juwan Howard is one of the kindest, gentlest, most professional dude’s you’ll ever know. We were teammates in Washington. But step between those lines and IT - IS - ON.

As it should be. Love me some @JuwanHoward . A GREAT teammate.

Maize and Blue.?

See, that's my take from all this. Juwan Howard is widely recognized as a GOOD man. As you said: kind, gentle, professional. If indeed he did tell Turgeon "I'll fucking kill you" (which I'm not sure I believe) then Turgeon said something despicable. Maryland shouting this from the rooftops just makes them look like trash.

There's a video and audio that seemingly confirms it, not that it really matters.  Kevin Warren already said that no further action will be taken.

Ah yes, that confirming audio and video evidence that almost 24 hours after the fact still hasn't been released and the only person who claims this actually happened is some shitty Maryland fanboi who claims Hunter is dirty because he "mean-mugged" Turgeon after making some good plays in the first game

The best way to earn the respect of your team is to complain to superiors about the mean things that the big bad guy from the other team said to you.

Actually, Juwan Noonien Howard was misquoted.

What he really said was: "I've done worse than kill you. I've hurt you. And I wish to go on hurting you."
