REFUTED: Hoke does NOT cry over Recruits
Hoke just told Sam Webb that's just a rumor, he has never cried over a recruit (read: Green). His dad - yes. Recruits - nah. Not sure where that rumor started. As some people in that thread said, you could see Hoke crying after a young man graduates after 5 years with Hoke but just for a signing? Nah.
Now has Hoke often pointed at a recruit? Hell yes. (allegedly)
EDIT - as poster commented below the quote came from Green
“He was real excited,” Green said. “I kept him on his toes. But when I told him today he was just astound and actually started crying. It was crazy, it was an unbelievable experience.”

Looks like you'll be running some extra sprints this Summer, Derrick.

The NCAA would send us to hell if coaches forced players to do stuff during involuntary workouts.

Why is this even being discussed? Who the hell cares if Hoke DOES cry over recruits?
February 6th, 2013 at 4:26 PM ^
about 150 people cared based on the previous thread where it said Hoke was so passionate about football he cried over the Green recruitment. That said I do believe it was Green who led it on.

Agree, I dont care what Hoke cries about.I know he cares about this team and thats all I care.

What about a Josh Groban song?
February 6th, 2013 at 4:25 PM ^
Maybe Green meant cried as in like cried out? Multiple recruits have said that Hoke hollered and got all excited when they committed.

I would not have thought any less of Hoke or Green either way.
February 6th, 2013 at 4:30 PM ^
Green probably just called while Hoke was watching Life is Beautiful.
February 6th, 2013 at 4:31 PM ^
As long as he doesn't sing, I'm good.
Edit: didn't Sam already refute this? I think this was refute redux.

Better to cry than break wind during a recruit's verbal I suppose. Rumor has it Charlie Weis was known to cut one in excitement when told the good news on the recruiting front.

" Rumor has it Charlie Weis was known to cut one in excitement when told the good news on the recruiting front."
I don't believe this...just "one"?
February 6th, 2013 at 5:03 PM ^
I read that as "cut one in excrement" at first. Took me a second.

I cry at Disney movies.

Who wouldn't cry during Up?
February 6th, 2013 at 8:05 PM ^
For me, I can't be around others who are crying and not cry with them. I just get emotionally overwhelmed so quick...
I used to be embarrassed and then I was just like fuck it, I am who I am...

There's no crying in football recruiting.

In this interview with CBS sports today Hoke himself says he did not cry.

Sam Webb said in a recruiting round-up that Green was joking when he said that, and that it was obvious to anyone who heard him say it that he was joking.

and Green thought that he was crying.

A. Who cares other than OSU and MSU fans, B. Green already refuted it last week but it was more fun for people to just stick with the original story, whatever, and C. I cry just a little when I think of letting go.

He was probably eating a sausage burrito, and the muffled pauses were understandably misheard by Green.

I don't cry reading certain posts either. The HVAC system in my office building just pumps out dust from time to time.

I'm embarrassed that this even became question worthy.
Talk about a non-issue.

Sam should've never felt compelled to ask Coach Hoke. It was all the message board fuss.
...and what was Coach Hoke going to say? "Yes! I bawled my eyes out over an 18 year old."
C'mon. This is TMZ.

I am not ashamed.

Jerry Hanlon spoke at Bacon's class a few years ago and said that recruiting was tough because he would get so upset when someone you recruited went to another school. Its not uncommon to get emotionally invested in recruiting.

I heard that's how the historic hat choosing ceremony began, as a way for ancient recruits to shield themselves from past coaches sobbing over them on signing days of yore.

Hoke has a pretty unique voice, and I can imagine he could be mistaken as crying when just getting really excited about something. Especially over the phone.
I remember how shocked I was when I first heard Hoke's voice at his introductory press conference. Wasn't what I was expected when I saw pictures of the guy.
