Poor Ryan Leaf..... just can't catch a break. "While riding in the backseat of the police cruiser, Leaf apparently was able to get the window down and then tossed out a handful of jewelry that he must of been hiding inside his jacket after being apprehended by the police. Just as luck would have it, a motorist in a vehicle passing in the opposite direction, reached out and picked the jewelry out of the air, turned his vehicle around and caught up to the police car as they pulled into the Great Falls Police Department facility, turning the jewelry over to the officers. A spokesman for the Great Falls Police Dept. made the following statement, " We want to thank Mr. Woodson for retrieving this evidence for us. We had no idea that he was on a fishing trip here in Montana and hope that he enjoys his stay. We also wish him the best of luck in the upcoming NFL season with the Packers." |
| 8 weeks 1 day ago | Ohio......so confusing |
A source close to Illini AD Mike Thomas has indicated that Thomas has been a bit confused when discussing the coaching search, specifically in regard to Ohio. Word is that he isn't sure if he's getting the Ohio State coach or the Ohio coach. But, the source added, Thomas just shrugged his shoulders and said, "What the hell, they both made the tourney and we didn't, so who cares which one we get". |
| 8 weeks 6 days ago | Trip back from Phoenix for Sparty...didn't quite go as planned |
In light of keeping with tradition and letting the players blow off some steam, Coach Izzo canceled the flight back to East Lansing, and instead, had the AD rent a RV that contained a number of couches in it. "I figured, what the hell, the students are upset and burning things back home....we might as well be a part of that tradition and join in the festivities", commented Izzo, when asked by reporters for the sudden change in travel plans. Unfortunately, that plan went awry just outside of Albuquerque when the flames of the last remaining couch got out of control and ignited the RV. The coaches and players escaped harm, but Sparty, their team mascot, had the simulated horse hair plume on his helmet go up in flames.
Albuquerque residents were warned not to venture outside of the city where the RV and couches were located.....

I have to laugh considering this article from Herb Gould at the Chicago Sun Times on Monday.
Source: Illinois determined to land Shaka Smart as next coach
http://www.suntimes.com/sports/11396707-419/source-illinois-wont-let-shaka-smart-get-away.html
Maybe Herb should have a better "source". Wonder if today's headline will read
Source: Shaka Smart determined not to take Illinois coaching job

| 10 weeks 3 days ago | Are the Illini Smart (well no, but....) |
Well there are a couple of things in Smart's favor;
1. He would address the affirmative-action concerns of some trustees and some alumni that Illinois has never had a minority coach in football or men’s basketball.
2. He's a native of WI, growing up outside Madison, so he has Midwestern roots. The AD, Mike Thomas is familiar with Smart, who was an assistant at Akron when Thomas was there.
3. He’s the “hot” coaching name out there right now.
Of course, there are a couple of thing lurking that are not in his favor;
1. The 8 year contract he signed, which you brought up. Since Thomas gave the Zooker $2.6 million to leave, $620,000 to dump the women's basketball coach, and bought out Bruce Weber's deal for $3.9 million last week, there are quite a few folks that aren't too happy with all that $$$ being spent on buying out coaching contracts when the state is broke.
2. There is a big push to hire someone with strong roots to the Chicago Public League, which used to provide a fairly good amount of talent to Champaign. However that has really dried up lately, with the elite kids in Chicago going to the elite programs, or to schools (Memphis) that don't really care if they take classes (or tests to even get in the school). A few of the coaches from high profile Chicago high school programs have thrown their hats into the ring and if shunned, will threaten to shut the Illini out of the talent pool again. |

Just another reason to hate on him when he becomes the new Illini coach,....other than the fact he'll be the Illini coach. |
| 12 weeks 4 days ago | The shame.... |
.....and just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, word is that Byrd skipped the bus ride home to check out a couple of watering holes in AA and beat up one of our bouncers. Come on.... |

Since I'm in Chicago I, along with my deceased family members and friends voted 20 times each...... Don't ask how .....that's just the way we do things here. |

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20120220/sports/702209663 From the last paragraph; Recruiters may not yet be done with the Bosch family. A freshman at St. Charles East, Brennan Bosch was a 6-foot-1, 235-pound defensive end and offensive guard on the sophomore squad last fall.
“My brother will be up and coming,” Kyle Bosch said. “He’s getting big. He’s definitely going to be as recruited if not more recruited than me when it’s all said and done.” St. Charles East happens to be the school my son attends. Brennan will see him walking the hallways everyday in Michigan gear. We'll keep ya all posted. |
