I believe 10-years, $125 million would make Jim the highest paid in college (at least until Kirby’s next extension). Essentially a few more than Jim’s paid now. Totally worth it because winning at this level in the north is so much harder. Even mediocre coaches in the south can stumble into national titles ex. Miles and Orgeron. Jim is worth his weight in gold.

if you're Warde, how do you not just back up the dump truck of cash? the man is delivering. You saved money the last couple years with his contract. Now it's time. I don't understand why there needs to be any kind of posturing with the relationship they supposedly have.

Exactly. If this were about working out a deal, we would hear about it.  Info would be coming from the AD and potentially others.  It would benefit them to do this so recruits and current players feel more confident that he’ll be here and it would indicate to NFL teams that he’s no longer on the market.  It’s quite clear that JH doesn’t want to be locked up by M until he has exhausted his NFL options.  (See example from 1 year ago)

And didn't fix the situation after 2021.

Harbaugh signed a new contract in 2/2022.  Yup, I’m sure Harbaugh wants Warde out too.  Harbaugh is thinking, “I really want to stay and not tank this recruiting class but let’s fire the AD and conduct a search for a new one before I sign anything.  That’s a good idea.” Try and keep up even though I’m sure uninformed posting is really fun.

Yea this doesn't make a ton of sense if this is all just a negotiating ploy.  Also, that narrative doesn't fit what others have said that Harbaugh is not that motivated by money.  I think the NFL interest is very real and the Jim is gone if he finds the right fit.

He doesn’t have to be motivated by money to expect more.  It could be principle. He knows he’s worth 9M/yr or more. He may view his salary as a signal of how much they want him or what they think of him. The salary sends a signal as to how valuable they think you are. If that doesn’t match with what he thinks he brings to the table, then he could walk, and it doesn’t have anything to do with the fact that he wants the money itself.

That is the most mysterious thing to me.  A couple of things have to be true of all this...

1.) Jim must realize the impact that yearly NFL flirtation/rumors might have on recruiting.

2.) Warde must realize that Jim is delivering as head coach.

None of this has to be navigated in the public sphere, Jim's agent just calls Warde and says, "Hey, Jim is killing it, in light of his previous concessions, we'd like to revisit his current contract to better align it with his results and coaching tier".  Bingo-bango, make it happen gents (in a way that doesn't torpedo momentum from back-to-back college football playoffs).

It's very possible he's made recruits aware of what he's doing. Last year he was open about exploring the NFL with recruits and it's possible this year he's told recruits this is all just for contract leverage. Top RB target Jordan Marshall is visiting next weekend which would seem odd if he didn't already know what Harbaugh is doing

Kevin Warren to Chicago Bears

Warde to B1G Commish after he signs Jim to what he is worth to the UofM - I mean how much does any extra $5MM-$10MM annually really move the needle on the amount of cash the money cannon is about to start shooting at the B1G?  Retire here with your  parents next door and kids raised in the wholesome wackiness that is Ann Arbor.

Let the AD debate begin.  Michigan Men and Women all over the sports world in various roles that could be lured home

A week ago Anson denied the reports that Harbaugh had NFL interest. Now he singing a slightly different tune.

But I do tend to agree with his take on Warde Manuel. Warde is reactionary not proactive. He has no apparent fire in his belly. This is especially true as it relates to NIL.

If Jim leaves I think he looks bad in court of public opinion per what his words have been to this point.  I do not believe that is who Jim is at all. I think he is mostly upfront, honest (except for burgers) and tried to do what he believes is best for himself and Michigan. Wouldn't blame him at all for leaving if his goal is win a Super Bowl but if that was likely I do not think he makes the statements he has up to this point. From my view his agent is working to get the deal Jim deserves and I even bet a dollar that makes Jim uncomfortable doing this.... That seems to be who Jim is to me....
