Plans for Wife Day?
So we now face the grim reality that Michigan does not have a game tomorrow. The bye week has become, as many of you are aware, known as Wife Day on this blog. What are your plans? Anything particularly special for the wife?
Not having a wife, mine are as follows:
9:00-11:00: Get caught up on Breaking Bad.
11:00-12:00: Keep on truckin'.
12:00-3:30: Try to reach enlightenment and/or light workout.
3:30-6:30: Watch OSU v. MSU.
6:30-8:00: Check up on the moonshine still.
8:00-11:00: Watch Wisconsin v. Nebraska.
11:00-12:00: Lollygag.

So... watch football, go for a run, and also just hang out. Might go to Bed Bath and Beyond and Home Depot, not sure if I'll have enough time.
/note, not really going to BBB or HD.
September 28th, 2012 at 1:05 PM ^
I do have a wife, and we actually are planning to go BBB, HD, and even an IKEA trip added in. But the good news is, this is all because we just moved back to Ann Arbor this week!

Welcome back! If you hit Lowe's instead of Home Depot you can get some custard at the new Culver's.

Where in the chips is the wife day preview???????????????!
I can't face wife day without it.
I'm going to spend a lot of the day pooping.

September 28th, 2012 at 12:04 PM ^
After last weeks loss and the overall sucky of the BIG I can use a CFB break. I might catch the end of the OSU/MSU game but that's about it. Hopefully OSU and Wisc win, I'll take a split though. Don't think Wisc has much of a chance.
Other than that I will probably be hitting up some local art/food/street festivals here in the NYC area.
September 28th, 2012 at 12:06 PM ^
I'm going on retreat with my college's vocal jazz group in the middle of nowhere. There will be no cable. I hate missing my college football saturdays, but I wouldn't want to do this any other weekend.
September 28th, 2012 at 3:44 PM ^
I'm trying to imagine what that must have been like. I've got nothing.
September 28th, 2012 at 12:10 PM ^
but the lady (Ms. ND Sux around these parts) and I will probably take the iron horse to a Microbrewery, maybe Witch's Hat in South Lyon this time. Then lots and lots of college fb and of course, tail.
September 28th, 2012 at 12:10 PM ^
Farmers market in the morning where the only thing we'll buy are two cookies for my girls (bc everything else is 50% cheaper down the street at the grocery store).
Drive to the 'burbs for a 2 year-olds b-day party at 11am; drive back into the City for a 4 year-olds birthday party at 4pm.
Home in time for the second half of Ohio-Sparty and hopefully the Tigers will be up in the late innings.
Ribs on the grill for dinner, beers, maybe a piece of vegetable.
Rooting for Wisconsin to beat Nebraska at night.
SNL (yes, I'm still a fan).

Taking my son, my wife, and her grandmother to watch the White Sox play the Rays. The wheels have really fallen off for the Sox, having dropped 8 of the last 9. In that span they went from 3 games up to 2 games down. I don't think they can pull off a comeback, but it should be a great pitching duel. Moore vs. Sale.

As I do have a wife - and two kids (who look quite a bit like me so I can't pretend I am not married) - the plans are indeed plenty for tomorrow.
7:30 AM or so: Get alarm call from one of the kids about cereal and/or television
8 AM: Coffee and toast, interrupted occasionally by "THAT'S MINE!" or "STOP TOUCHING ME"
9 AM-11 AM: Preparation for and participation in soccer practice. Watch my son, who cares little for the nuances of the game, kick goals in a net far away from his team.
Noon-ish: Come home ang get ready for the cider mill.
1 PM - 3 PM (if lunch goes well): Arrive the cider mill. I'll be the guy in Michigan gear with the woman in Michigan gear and the kids in whatever they pulled from the closet. Donuts, cider and pumpkin inspection are among the planned activities. Yes, my daughter will accept only the finest pumpkins for carving.
3:30 PM: Arrive at home again. Maybe turn on the MSU-Ohio game while I grill steaks and start the twice-baked potatoes. Listen to kids tell the wife about how they should be allowed to carve the pumpkins right on the family room carpet.
5:30 PM: Eat dinner and try to avoid being in the crossfire of steamed carrots, as they are a weapon of choice.
After that, probably a lot of stress-free football viewing....or a movie or two. Probably the latter until the wife goes to bed.

Isn't it too early to be pumpkin-carving?
September 28th, 2012 at 12:28 PM ^
I would think so, but we do get one or two small pumpkins that the kids can at least decorate (and if they so elect, I carve) on the understanding that we really shouldn't be doing it for a couple weeks. Of course, they don't understand it, but I can afford to humor them, if nothing else. It also keeps them from emptying every bin on the toy shelves for a few hours so the nicks and cuts on my feet from all the plastic figures can heal. I get the big carving pumpkins in mid-October regardless, and they get to be involved in that as well. They do like themselves some fall, my kids...
September 28th, 2012 at 12:47 PM ^
to what my day will be like tomorrow, except for the cider mill part. Don't have that type of thing going on down here in Texas, so I'll undoubtedly be replacing that with yardwork.
September 28th, 2012 at 1:31 PM ^
that same alarm clock. X 3, though.
September 28th, 2012 at 1:33 PM ^
Wait, you're gonna grill the steaks and START the 2x baked potatoes? Those are either gonna be some well done steaks or rare 2x baked potatoes.
If you tell me your wife's breasts feel like bags of sand then I'm going to really start to wonder about the voracity of your story...
September 28th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
Under normal conditions, absolutely this would not work, but...
Between having two little people that insist on helping in the kitchen and their apparent, constant need for things like pretzels and blueberry granola cereal, I will probably just be getting to the second of the two bakes before I can contemplate the grill. If everyone is needy enough, this should just about work out.
Actually, if the one side of the grill fails to light like last time, I probably should put the steaks on about an hour or so in advance because it might be that long then.
September 28th, 2012 at 2:00 PM ^
"STOP TOUCHING ME!!". I'm hoping it's your kids - not wife - yelling that at 8 a.m.
September 28th, 2012 at 2:03 PM ^
I would hope the same thing, of course, though I think there would be real issues coming to the surface if she shouted, "THAT'S MINE!", I would say. There's an awkward moment in the works.
September 28th, 2012 at 12:13 PM ^
tomorrow with her dad. The day is going to have an ironic "the circle is now complete" feel to it.
Me: "hey honey, no Michigan game this weekend, what do you want to do?"
Her: "how about you watch our kid all day while I go to a football game."
So, it will be Jungle Java/putt-putt, toy store, pizza, movie rental, maybe a park and some arts and crafts. I will probably have the game on just to point out examples of bad sportsmanship to my daughter. When putting her to bed, we will have conversations about how many of the players on MSU/OSU need to be put in timeout. I will also add how Denard Robinson never needs to be put in timeout because he's awesome.

Lay laminate in the kitchen and finish trim while listening to games on Sirius.

No pants and yes football currently
September 28th, 2012 at 11:15 PM ^
There are drawbacks to no wife or GF, but college football Saturdays are not one of them. Tomorrow is your day. Go out of your way to do something that would disgust/infuriate a wife or GF.
I recommend flipping the channels on the remote so frequently, you are watching every single game that's on simultaneously. No wife/GF's gonna let you do that.
September 28th, 2012 at 12:19 PM ^
I am going to the monstrosity known as FedEx field to tailgate (my main reason) and if sober enough watch Virginia Tech take on Cinci. The GF's family are all Tech people (she is the only UVA grad in her family) but it should be a good time. Thankfully it looks like it won't rain.

Home repairs that have so far been deemed less important than Michigan Football (all of them).
September 28th, 2012 at 12:28 PM ^
My plans for wife day are:
1. Take wife out for dinner.
2. Drywall guest room.
3. Watch OSU vs. MSU.
4. Finish baby registry.
5. Transfer wort to secondary fermenter.
6. ????
7. Profit
September 28th, 2012 at 12:58 PM ^
Unless you've got an awesome vacuum sander and have done drywall before I strongly recommend hiring someone hang those guest bedroom walls. Pros do it fast and it's clean and usually pretty cheap. I tried drywalling a big section of our ceiling and it was a dust nightmare. Maybe you're more handy with drywall, but that's one area of home improvement that I stay way away from.
September 28th, 2012 at 1:46 PM ^
Drywalling sucks!
September 28th, 2012 at 1:51 PM ^
I'm not good at it either but we're getting big help from my father-in-law. He's a former contractor and it's gone up quick in other rooms. I'd much rather be watching football though.

It's a dark amber. I saw some pumpkin ale recipes recently, they look good. This is my second batch too. For my third I'm thinking of doing a rose ale or rose colored IPA for Michigan's bowl game (fingers crossed).

Afterwards, eat junk food and drink alcohol to completely negate what I will have accomplished.

I have a friend that ran a full marathon. When he finished, he sat down under a tree, proceeded to drink a full 2-liter bottle of Coke and pass out. Good times??
