Patterson: Horned Hope

Per jhackney's request, and bc he's the OBVIOUS frontrunner now that the chin is headed to SF, let's talk Patterson. Annnnnnnd GO!

That's uncalled for. Even more vitriol, in a more classy fashion, can be attributed by this astonishing epithet...

"Harbaugh, may you lose to the Detroit Lions." Then spit on the ground.

Lloyd Carr's record  = 122-40 (.753)

Michigan all time winning pct , which is #1 IN THE HISTORY OF FOOTBALL (.735)

Rich Rodriguez record = 15-22 (.405)

Wake up, learn math, and stop hating on Lloyd Carr.

but TCU had a 19-point lead with 9 minutes to play. (7 minutes, actually, but SDSU got the ball with 9:05 on the clock.) That's not competitive, really, that's Patterson in who-cares mode.

Sure, San Diego State deserves credit for taking an early lead, but they didn't really do much else until the game was all but decided.

This is the opposite of the  shit reasoning that stubborn supporters of RichRod used all the time.  When someone would question the offense we would put up towards the ends of our losses this year to make the game seem a little more respectable than it was, their defense would be "we have one of the top offenses in the country and we were coming back in the end."  SDST scored some garbage points at the end.  It seemed to me that is what our offense would do at the end of our games against MSU, Iowa, PSU, etc.

If those who were calling for RR's head b/c Harbaugh was out there would have changed their tone if they had seen this whole scenario playing out like it is. My guess is that the main reason people wanted RR gone so fast was b/c of the sexy possibility of JH being our coach.Sure, the wins-losses didn't help RR's situation, but that was just a way for those against RR and for JH to argue the point rather than the reason for the point.

I guess all I'm trying to say is, if we knew a week ago what we know now about this coaching search, would those trying to push for a RR fire in the hopes of a JH hire have changed their opinions at all?

He's not from Michigan.  I heard Hoke was coming with Tom Brady and Charles Woodson as offensive and defensive coordinators.  Only a Michigan graduate could possibly coach the Michigan Wolverines.

Except Bo.  And Fritz Crisler.  And Fielding Yost.  Other than that, impossible.

I wouldn't say he's the frontrunner. No recruiting experience in the midwest which Brandon all but said is a must - and I can't imagine him leaving a virtually automatic BCS bid next year in the Big East.

I think at this point Hoke/Miles are the frontrunners with Patterson and potentially from what I'm hearing Gruden as long shots.

He recruited in the same places as Texas, Oklahoma, Ok. St., and Nebraska, had a better record than all, won a Rose Bowl against a team that steamrolled us with an aggresive blitz friendly defense, and finished #3 in the country. How is he not a front runner?

Yea. Do more with less talent, plus defese minded, plus proven he can beat B1G teams, plus can recruit in Texas (sweet talent pool), plus he isn't Hoke. Hoke only has ties from when he was here last time at Ball St. He probably wouldn't jump off the page for 4 and 5 star studs. Gary Patterson: "I won a Rose Bowl and was one or two plays from a national championship."

"no recruiting experience in the midwest."  Wouldn't that have applied to Harbaugh and Miles as well?

I do agree that Hoke/Miles are the actual frontrunners, but not for the right reasons.

Edit:  Obviously Miles has experience from 15 years ago, but does that really count?
