OT: Snap back vs Fitted (hat) Which Do You Like Better
I know this if off topic but I know for a fact a lot of you here like to wear M hats during the games that Michigan is playing in and I wanted to know if you prefer more fitted vs snap back hats. I personally feel that snap backs are STUPID. I can't stand when everyone wants one just cause Mac Miller or whoever is now wearing them. They aren't cheaper than fitted hats are either so that argument isnt even valid and plus guys didn't your mom give you snap back caps when you were a little kid? Come on! I personally love the fitted hat over the snap back anyday but others may say different. I don't know how do you feel about them?

You do realize that it is a sticker. They come right off
February 20th, 2012 at 7:22 PM ^
Yes, but I have had some leave a stupid mark where the sticker used to be.

Fitted

Hey OP, my buddies and I are having a deep discussion of hat-closing technology back at my friend's house and if you and your crew would like to join us youre more than welcome..
February 20th, 2012 at 7:42 PM ^
are the best fitted hats on the market.
February 20th, 2012 at 7:55 PM ^
but in this case I'l make an exception..... WTF?

The day I see Brady Hoke sport a snapback is the day I will wear a snapback. Sort of how I stopped wearing long sleeves at all times.
February 20th, 2012 at 7:56 PM ^
neither bucket hats

I prefer a nice straw boater to go with my raccoon coat as I gad about campus. Rah!
February 20th, 2012 at 8:30 PM ^
The only snap backs I wear, is my 1997 Big Ten Champions lockerroom hat. I'm going to have Brady Hoke sign it at fan day since he was a coach on that staff. I've only worn it around my house and to fan day last year since I don't want to mark it up. I'm gonna put it in a display case once I get it signed.
Other than that, all my hats I own are velcro adjustable. Best way to go IMO. I don't wear a hat for basketball games, but I wear my 2011 NCAA Frozen Four hat for hockey games since I buy the hat of Michigan's accomplishment from their season and sport it all of the following season. This is currently what I wear for all the football games:

'97 was a truly vintage year for Michigan... Velcro snaps are superior IMHO, too, particularly if you let your hair grow out a little per poster above.

Classic design, traditional colours. Simple, straightforward. Love it.

I too prefer snap-back hats with something other than the plastic tabs - velcro, buckle, ANYTHING. That's what I have in my Michigan hat. Unfortunately the other two hats I have - both Laker hats - are fitted and plastic snapback, so I'm secretly praying to lose them so I can replace it with a buckle Laker hat.
off-off-topic: anyone from Michigan remember the Deminski & Doyle afternoon talk show during the late 90's? Only reason I mention this is I remember one of those guys was saying that one of the looks that really did it for him was women who wear their ponytail through the hole in the back of the baseball cap. Doesn't really do much for me either way, but are there any guys here who really dig that look? Or for that matter, what do the ladies here think about it?

i prefer snapbacks. my head doesn't do well with strapbacks but i dont have a problem with either strap or fitteds. Snapbacks are just whats in style. (first post)

Fitted all day.

Same size here. Fitted is basically the only way I can find a hat that even comes close to fitting comfortably.
February 20th, 2012 at 9:59 PM ^
Dont pick a hat based on whether it's fitted or snap. Got a Michigan hat now that is fitted and a wings hat that is mesh snap.

snapbacks have been back "in" for a while now bra.

I've hated the snap-back hats--particularly with the plastic mesh on the back half--since I was handed one in my first season of Little League in 1977. All fitted all the time--the only hats I wear are the Olde English D and the Block M.

Can't wait for the loop, swoop and pull vs. bunny ears thread.

For a clean and (dare I say) professional look I wear the two tone fitteds (Blue/Maize bill logo and White/ blue bill and logo but snapbacks are growing on me. Just got this one and I LOVE it.....
February 21st, 2012 at 9:58 AM ^
I hate to be cruel, but that hat just screams "Wallmart Wolverine." Stick to Maize and Blue. Please.
February 20th, 2012 at 10:56 PM ^
If it ain't fitted you must aquitted, or something.
God knows I would never touch, let alone wear this hat, but I'm a sucker for simple or old school hats. That's probably the best Michigan hat I've seen yet.

Neither snap back or fitted ever fit my head. It is that large. It would be funny if I didn't have neck problems because of its mass.

snapbacks have much better, more unique designs with many retro logos and teams compared to fitted hats
February 21st, 2012 at 1:22 AM ^
I have a ginormous head so my choice was made for me. I can't fit into an adjustable one, so when I buy a hat I have to spend a great deal of time and energy tracking down something that looks good and is an eight.
It's a challenge.

There is only one hat I wear, the Coach's Sideline hat. I buy a new one at the beginning of each season and that becomes my "Dress Hat" that I wear to business meetings and only get worn if I am absolutely sure I won't be sweating in the hat or getting them dirty. Some years they are the velcro back, some years a slider with a buckle clasp, but most years they are the flex fit or a fitted hat. The older hats get used for various outdoor activities involving dirt or perspiration. The very oldest hat is my "renovation hat" used for drywalling, sanding and other extreme dust situations. Eventually the wife gets a look at the decrepit condition of the "reno hat" and it heads off to the trash bin. My current reno hat is the same velcro model that RR wore on the sideline during Lloyd's last bowl game, the only M hat I bought at the end of the season.
Here is the current version of the Coach's Sideline Structure Flex Hat:

Two things,
First: OP, thanks for going out on a limb with this OT post. I know you're getting a lot of neg slack for it, but as an mgoreader who's also a longtime, avid hat-wearer, I appreciate the opportunity to discuss the subject.
Second, in response to the actual post: I say it depends on which you're going for. I'm not a fan of the flat-brimmed hats with the snap backs... however, I do like a good old retro-looking Wal-Mart/trucker/$5 style Michigan hat (non-flat brim or obviously old/before-it-was-cool flat brimmed) with the snap back. But for your newer hats, whether the brim is curved or flat, I say go for the fitted or flex-fit hats (either way without the snap-back).*
*Caveat: At the end of the day its what your personal preference dictates. I happen to be of the fitted or flex-fit or die generation of hat-wearers, but also appreciate the cheap retro fan's hats my grandfather used to wear.

Are you kissing up because husker4life has MGoBoobs?
February 21st, 2012 at 12:09 PM ^
No I'm not kissing up, I was simply giving some words of encouragement to a post that at the time had about as many negative votes as postitive, and because it's a topic I was genuinely happy to discuss. As your snarky response points out, there can be a lot of jerks on the mgoboard, so I think that in the face of such snarky banter and discouraging responses, a topic that provokes genuine discussion (as it did for me, someone who both wears hats frequently and is enough of a nerd to have an opinion on the particular attributes of those hats) merits encouragement.
sideline hat. That get the most attention.
Excellent use of writing skills would like read through your blog in future.I want to talk about online education and its rising importance in employment market.
FLEX FIT for me (since 97). Still have my Nike Flex fit from 97, and also have 2 Flex Fit adidas, (one with mesh back for the early season 100 degree weather games).

I still wear the Michigan hat I bought in '92 ,my freshman year. University Square hat, I got it at Moe's I believe. It is kinda worn out. Ok, really worn out, but it fits like no other hat. I break it out in the summer when we go on camping trips, and I wear it when I go to Michigan games. Yes, I am a bit superstitious. I switched to a yellow hat for Michigan games during the RichRod era for the "maize out" effect against my better judgement. Yeah, it is retired. I blame the hat.
