OT-Seantrel Henderson released.

Submitted by mmiicchhiiggaann on

Joe Schad is reporting USC let him go from his LOI. Hope he doesn't go to the buckeyes.

Per Joe Schad on ESPN.com:

Kiffin and USC are essentially allowing Henderson to enroll at any school immediately and be eligible to play as early as this season.

He can play immediately because he never enrolled.  Therefore, he's not under transfer restrictions.

Good for him.  Allegedly, Kiffykins promised him that no penalties would come out of the investigation.

Though that is kind of Seantrel's fault for being dumb enough to believe that bullshit.  I'm thinking that if he was as good at critical thinking and reasoning as he is at pancaking fools, he would not have signed a LOI to play at USC anyway.

The only case I can think of where this happens regularly is Utah gymnastics.  They've twice released fairly decorated athletes in the past five years because of "bad fit" type issues and let them go unhindered.

in the one category that Seantrel (or to be more precise his family) is actually interested in. Things have tightened up quite a bit at SC in that category for obvious reasons. His decision to not go to USC has nothing whatsoever to do with the postseason ban or lost scholarships.

I guess you can convince yourself of anything when it makes you feel better about your team.  Yes, Seantrel probably played up the recruiting process a little more than he should have.  But who can blame him for wanting out at USC in light of the penalties?  Any fan base is delusional if they think their team is in any way better off without this kid on your team.

I don't follow recruiting that closely, but I somewhat remember Minny being in the sweepstakes.  Is that true? If so, is there any chance he lands there?

I do believe that he had Minn mentioned in his leaders, but I'm guessing that was out of respect for the coaching staff who undoubtedly spent a lot of time on the kid.  I'm guessing (hoping) Miami.

Also, I wouldn't mind if he went to MN.  They are so talent deprived that I don't see it hurting.  Otherwise, please leave the B10.

him. I know they will find a way because he is unreal. I know the plan for Latwan is a track schollie, than just wait for a transfer or convince a gray shirt for a kid. With Latwan though, they have all the way till January because he is on a track schollie. What are they going to do for Seantrel he needs to be in by August?? I am curious to find out.

I'm glad USC released him, but I don't think it should have been their choice.  The NCAA should have granted blanket permission for all the incoming Freshman.

signed with USC knowing what could possibly happen.  No one forced those kids to buy into Carrol or Kiffin's ridiculous BS about no sanctions.  I can think of a million more sympathetic cases where kids are forced to sit out a year through not fault of their own.  Why should this be any different?

Maybe it should be "different" because Kiffin is a professional con man talking to 17 year-olds.  Kiffin has gotten more great jobs with less victories than any coach in the history of the game.  I would be willing to bet that he spoke with the utmost in conviction while telling recruits that the NCAA had "no proof" of anything and that all they would get was a "slap on the wrist."

This guy has conned multimillionaires and he has conned professional administrators from high-profile universities.  I think it is a no-brainer that he can con 17 year-olds.  I think the NCAA should void every LOI signed with USC this season and make them recruit all over again.
