OT: RIP Olivia Newton-John
Gone too soon at age 73, I honestly loved her (and her music/sweet soft vocals) in my younger years.
Damn you cancer!
Dang.
Grease is my wife's favorite movie. I thought about texting this info to her, but then I thought why ruin her day?
My mom's favorite artist. My mom played all things ONJ in the house, car, etc. I'm not too proud to admit that she's got a lot of good stuff, including Xanadu.
I'll be listening to some Heart Attack in her honor.
Ugh. David McCullough, my favorite historian/author, also passed away today.
Just finished his book on the Wright Brothers, which i really enjoyed. No idea he passed; RIP
1776 was hands down one of the best books i have ever read.
RIP
Lost a national treasure with David's passing. I know that gets thrown around alot any more but with him it is true.
Reading his books are one thing but everyone needs to watch his lectures. Sad day.
Saw him speak once. I can truly say it was a banner day in my life. Only thing better than reading one of his books was listening to him speak, e.g. Seabiscuit, Civil War.

I've read some question his historical chops (and I say that as I'm reading his John Adams biography at the moment), but the dude had a near-perfect voice for historical lectures. He's like the Keith Jackson of documentaries. I could listen to him read from the 1920s classified ads and be engaged.
RIP. One of the first singers I remember listening to when I was a young kid.
I've had a crush on her since I was a little kid. Sad news indeed. RIP
I guess I must be older that you but I've had a crush on her (and her music) most of my adult life! Saw her in concert at Pine Knob years ago and just listened in awe of the experience. Loved Grease. Loved Xanadu. Love most everything she sung. Still have a number of her LPs. Rest in peace, dear Olivia!
I third that emotion. I remember watching “Let’s Get Physical” in the early 80s and liking her. R.I.P Olivia
You and me both, brother. I had a crush on her in the very early 70's when If Not For You came out as a single. She was the epitome of sweetness, class, and positivity. I will personally miss her.
Yeah, she was an early crush of mine. She has the same birthday as my dad, and he was a big fan. Makes me realize I'm lucky that I still have him around. I'm going to give him a call today.
Indeed, I had a huge crush on her as a kid. Grease is a fantastic movie, but Magic remains my favorite song of hers (awful movie, great music).
Trying to find a link that will actually open on the board...
Much appreciated Don!
I've been having trouble at times posting links ever since the latest site upgrades.
I feel like a disproportionate number of people are dying.
Stop dying, y'all.
Sad news, she was the model of fitness in the 1980s.
BTW: Roger E Mosley (TC-Magnum PI) passed away after a car crash overnight, he was 83. Always loved the TC character and how Roger made him real.
Amazing how much Vietnam there was in that show at the beginning at least. We are only in season 3 right now. TC was a great character.
Yeah, these RIP threads have been coming fast and furious all through the summer!
Historian David McCullough has died too. He was 89.
He was the Keith Jackson of historical narration. A solid writer too,
RIP Olivia - I very much enjoyed going to her show around 20 years ago. Another childhood icon gone (too soon!!!)!
Roger Mosley, the actor who played TC on Magnum PI, has also passed. Magnum PI was must-see TV for my family in the 80s.
I just spent the last hour of work watching Grease clips.
Those of you who were in The summer PChem with me in 05 may remember her grandfather was Nobel prize winner Max Born.
As a chemistry professional, this is the single most useful piece of information I got from that class.
I just read that her father was an MI5 officer (British Intelligence) during WWII who was involved in the Enigma Project at Bletchley Park, and who took custody of high-ranking Nazi official Rudolf Hess.
Quite the family history Olivia had.
She was some Dame. As in DBE, which I didn't know. RIP.
They don't make women like Olivia Newton-John & movies like Xanadu anymore. RIP lovely & talented lady
Awful news. Hopelessly Devoted To You absolutely wrecked me the first time I heard her sing it and still does today.
Rest In Peace angel
My first crush. Me and millions, I'm sure. RIP
What a sweet heart! RIP Olivia.
Have you never been mellow - such a wonderful song sung by a beautiful singer. RIP Olivia.
Such an awesome voice! Even if she tried to have an edge, it wasn't believable - she was overwhelmingly such a sweet person that one look at her would give it away. RIP, Olivia...
Who did not love ONJ and Sandy in Grease?
If you don't love Olivia Newton John in Grease, you are a communist.
IIRC she had breast cancer many years ago. A medical actuary at that point might not have predicted another thirty years or so of life, so good for her.
Oh, Sandy....
Loved her in Grease. She'll be missed.
She had some big hits in the 70s. Then I remember she use to do some of those Hallmark Christmas movies. I read where she's been battling breast cancer for years. RIP ONJ and DM!
She was my first crush, in childhood. RIP
I was hopelessly devoted to ONJ in the late 70s.
Olivia was a class act. She will be missed for her humanity, music, and beauty.
Ah, no. Wish it weren't so. Rest in peace.
Just sad. So very sad

Olivia was my girlfriend. I was 15 and she a hot 24 year old, what a summer. Then I woke up and finished my chores.

Rest in Peace, Olivia. Your music, acting, and personality brightened the days of millions.
Also, fuck cancer.
