Submitted by MGoVoldemort on
@jonmorosi: Sources: Tigers about to finalize TWO trades today; one is with Boston involving Cespedes and Porcello, as @CJNitkowski reported.

Was hoping he'd retire a tiger. Tigers lineup has more pop so that's good....because Tigers starting pitching is getting less dominant, and the bullpen continues to be ignored.

I like Porcello but we needed outfield help badly. Not sure if Porcello can repeat the year he just had so I think it made sense to deal him for a really good outfielder and a good bat in the lineup. Now the Tigers will at least make an offer to Scherzer. We say this every year but the Tigers are going all in. Good luck to Rick in Boston.

The primary reason I like this trade is that it makes the outfield look quite a bit better with Cespedes' arm out there, especially in the confines of Comerica. It also makes the lineup even more intimidating on paper, as others have mentioned. Porcello will actually be aided by some better infield defense, I would think, as he is a great pitch-to-contact guy.

Oh Hacket and your smokescreens!  Speaking of such things, I wonder if Harbaugh will run some bubble screens?

When my wife is with Child I shall call him "Harbaugh" .  Harbaugh Devotee.  Has a ring to it.  He will be swaddled in a UTL III Jersey.  It will be good.

Awesome, now the Tigers will score even more runs and therefore have the bullpen pathetically blow even bigger leads this year.  Seriously, you can land Cespedes, but not any relief help?  We've been down this road before.

I feel like the organization doesn't value consistent pitchers unless they are flashy. Sending away Fister and Porcello back to back is a huge blow to the rotation. Hopefully we can sign Scherzer or add another decent starter. Otherwise this trade concerns me.

Makes sense considering this was the last year of arb for Rick and he was likely to get a Homer Bailey-esque deal, so we sold as high as possible. The problem here is that the Tigers still don't have a 2 hole hitter...

do too much. Chill Dom Dom, pitching and bullpens win and you just keep trading them away. You mean to tell me there was no other way we could have gotten an OF who hits .260?

Get the quality starts out of Porcello, let him win us 15 games, then if he walks he walks. Heaven forbid we wait until the trade deadline when teams are willing to give up way more so they can contend for a title.

I used to have whole hearted faith in Dombrowski, not anymore...

Good deal for both teams although I think Boston gets the better of it considering Porcello's age.  I don't think the Tigers were going to be able to sign Porcello after this year.  The Verlander contract is killing them.

15 - 10 with a 3.44 and 127 stikeouts.  Durable with 32 starts.  Sounds like a good trade to me as in selling high (recieving an all-star pitcher) for a back up SS and a 'potential' arm.  Win now dictates that this is good.  Equivalent numbers to Porcello, so we get a similar pitcher and a potential star in Cespedes!  Win in my eyes, as much as you can win in the offseason I mean.

Go Blue!

Go Tigers!

His xFIP was a full run higher than his ERA showing that he overachieved last year. I don't at all mind what we have up but we basically just got a journey converted reliever, probably could have gotten something better than that doesn't miss bats all that frequently.

That's the rumored deal with the Tigers and Reds.  Looks kinda meh compared to the Porcello trade.

Edit: Jerry Crasnick is the one reporting.  Thought I'd mention in case anyone was worried about Gil Brandt being the source.

Eugenio Suarez is in the Alfredo Simon deal, source says. #tigers #reds

Some are calling it the Lester-for-Porcello trade.  One person commented that it opens the way for Liverpool FC to sign Jermaine Jones from the New England Revolution and the U. S. Men's National Team (forgetting that Patriots' owner Robert Kraft owns the Revolution, while Red Sox owner John Henry owns Liverpool FC. though maybe there's room in New England for a Red Sox/Liverpool-Patriots/Revolution trade.)

Having lived in Red Sox Nation for several decades, I'm okay with the trade. Both Porcello and Cespedes could become free agents after next season.  I'll miss having Cespedes wearing a Red Sox uniform while he tries to become the first player to hit the All Star Home Run Derby Trifecta. I guess that it's nice for Porcello's family and friends from his days at Seton Hall Prep in northern New Jersey who will get to see him play in person more often.

I overvalue Porcello, so I think they should have gotten more. It's not clear who will be better in 2015 between Porcello and Cespedes, but I'll bet on Porcello for the next three. If Wilson can be a decent bullpen arm, that will help, but Cespedes just isn't all that and Porcello looked like he was on the way up.

Looks like Dombrowski is closing the Championship window.  Can't say I'm thrilled with any off season moves so far.  It scares me what could happen next.  Yeah I might be overreacting but I don't see theses moves getting the Tigers any closer to a WS.  I hope they prove me wrong.

I think if the Tigers are not going to sign Scherzer I would of liked them to extend Porcello.  Now they have 3 so-so #5 starters going out for two spots; Green, Simon and Lobstein (per MLB Network talking heads).  What if Verlander continues to slide?  What if Simon gets rapes or murders someone?  I dont like him, he lied about his age by almost 2 years and has had legal troubles ever since.  Also JD Mart or Davis will be the odd man out in the OF unless they platoon it, not a good for some consistency.

Yeah I'm a downer today, probably because of finals and all the other negative sports attention at Michigan.  April is a long way off so I have time to change my tune about this.
