OT: Red Wings to clinch 22nd straight playoff spot
Detroit is less than one period away from clinching their 22nd straight playoff spot. They are up 3-0 with 12:00 min to play as a I type this. Good to see them come through to keep the streak alive. Remaining playoff scenarios...
*Earn at least one point in Dallas on Saturday, ending regulation time with a tie.
*If Columbus loses at home Saturday against Nashville, the Red Wings will make the playoffs regardless of what they do in Dallas.
*If the Minnesota Wild lose both of their remaining games, the Red Wings automatically make the playoffs.
If the Red Wings and Columbus finished tied in points the Red Wings have the tiebreaker advantage because of the greater amount of combined regulation time/overtime victories.
If they wind up losing this somehow, I nominate you for emperor of Bolivia.
Tonight is Minnesota's last game.
Being the Wild, it's actually quite possible for them to lose two games in one sixty minute period of regulation. This is how teams like Colombus and Edmonton have compiled such atrocious records in recent years.
Detroit isn't going up against Quinnipiac. . .

And they have to - you know - play best of 7 series. No way Yale beats Quinnipiac in a 7 game series. No way.
Michigan would probably have 5-10 more frozen four appearances
looking pretty good right now, would be the 4th win in a row after a brutal 7 game stretch. 22 years in a row in the playoffs is quite a record. could be bad news for anaheim....
YEAHHHHH
Hey, blame Minnesota (or Colorado)

Hard to believe that there are men sitting in bars, hoisting beers (at a legal age to do so) to a team that has never missed the playoffs in their entire lives. Just unreal.
I was going back through the hockey databases after the game was over - it really is a wonderful run. The last time the Red Wings failed to make the playoffs, I was in 7th grade, and in my entire life to date, they've only missed the playoffs seven times (only twice since I was 5 years old). I don't know how many teams could claim that overall level of performance for that long, even with the relatively varied level of success in the playoffs. Truly an incredible run for the Red Wings.

used to be able to claim that level of success.

Yeah, especially in a day and age of parity and salary cap. Truly something to appreciate.

I'm happy for the Wings, but they run into a good Anaheim team. Not sure if they can win that series.
took 2 of 3 from Anaheim during the season, and Anaheim has only been a .500 team since they started the season 22-3. If the Red Wings play like they did down the stretch they have every oppurtunity to knock off Anaheim, and would have at least a shot against SJ or Vancouver in round two. The only team I don't think the Wings would have any shot against in the West is Chicago, so hopefully somebody can upset them.

saw the bracket they showed on FSN and forgot that things are reshuffled after each round. So hopefully Minnesota can pull a shocker against Chicago, I think Minnesota has the talent to at least give Chicago some trouble, if they can pull it together.

I appreciate people like you who support teams like the Blue Jackets. I have had enough of all the "social media" front-runners who wanted Jimmy gone after the Calgary game and now all of the sudden they are posting "Howard 4 MVP!"

but there were honestly "lifetime Blackhawks/hockey fans" who were trying to say they should unload Kane earlier this year. I can't stand reading most of the garbage that sports fans post, which is probably why I get most of my sports conversations done here or in person.
Anyway, I also like it when people don't use the LeBron James process to find teams to root for. Hockey wouldn't be what it is if everyone was an Original Six fan.

Was very confident we would be in by winning. Beer taste better after a win. Time for some duck hunting 1985 style

The wings have never not been in the playoffs since I've been alive :)

Would the Wings be first in the west right now?
Go Wings Go! Awesome way to clinch and extend the playoff streak with 4 straight wins to finish the season.
