I'm assuming you spelled "gentlemen" incorrectly in your signature on purpose.

Namely, $350 -> $150. That's pretty awesome.

Yeah, but that's a lot of money to spend on a loss.

that there are people successful enough to contemplate such decisions, but GD that's a big price to pay for lower prices on student bowl tickets.
Good for them, though, they'll need every advantage they can get.

a student and would buy one or two and sell them. With ND and Alabama this should be a high demand game.
You can make enough for your 2nd semester beer money, or at least get you through February.

Maybe that is the point he wants to make. He certainly wouldn't be the first to advocate that (see: Peter Singer).

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs." Classic socialist drivel.

I'm not quite sure what this has to do with anything.

It's his money; if he wants the students at his alma mater to have discounted tickets, more power to him.
If he wants to get all of it in ones and try to swim around in it like Scrooge McDuck on the intro to Duck Tails, more power to him.

I would say chances are the this person donates to other causes as well.

My step dad is an alum and said someone offered him tickets for $10k.. Out of control.

I think you are right on the money. The students at ND are not MSU-like. They do have brains. If I was there and I saw how much money these tickets are going for (Thousands), I think I would try to get one for myself and gobble up as many as I could to resell them. You could literally make 10k off of this game, if you had access to $150 tickets. There are two sides, obviously. ND will likely never make it back to the National Championship, so going to the game might be a once in a lifetime experience. Buying one ticket and selling how ever many you can get your hands on, would easily pay for the trip and give you put some extra cash to put on bama...

Students can't resell the tickets. You only get one ticket, it's tailor made for your ID, and you have to pick it up with ID in hand at the Stadium directly before the game.
December 3rd, 2012 at 4:06 PM ^
The tickets must be redeemed by the student at the bowl site and are non-transferable.

Such a joke that student ticket prices are that much. Good for this guy to shell out some cash to help offset the outrageous prices that these bowls want for tickets.
December 3rd, 2012 at 8:01 AM ^
...I think it would be better if the rich alumnus did something else with his money and students simply refused to show up in protest of the $350 ticket.
$350?! Even $150 is a pretty absurd price for student tickets. Given how much these big games make in TV money, they should literally let the 10,000 or so students in for free just as an atmosphere enhancer. Whenever they pan the crowd, who do they show? Students, not the fat cats.

First World problems.

I believe the face value ot the lowest priced ticket is $350.00. As of a few minutes ago, it appears that the average price on stubhub, ebay, ticketmaster, etc., is >$1,700.00. Price has gone up after Bama's win. As far as I am concerned, it is alot of money for sitting in the so-called nosebleed sections of the stadium.
December 3rd, 2012 at 10:02 AM ^
That was a nice gesture! Now go get your beat down Irish! The reduced price is just a bonus!
December 3rd, 2012 at 10:21 AM ^
are probably even taking the band too!! And letting them spend the night. Imagine that.
December 3rd, 2012 at 10:30 AM ^
Honestly, though, even though it's the Orange Bowl and not the BCS Championship game, I think NIU giving any students who will be attending a free ticket is a better deal.
December 3rd, 2012 at 11:45 AM ^
I like that the donor requested anonymity, too...speculations on who it could be...Regis Philbin? Mike Golic?
December 3rd, 2012 at 1:40 PM ^
Good for him. Let's put the saddest ND fans in the front, so that we can see $375k go up in smoke for all to enjoy.
December 3rd, 2012 at 10:56 PM ^
that is a very nice thing to do
December 3rd, 2012 at 11:09 PM ^
What was the original price of the tickets?
