Apparently true, yet this is definitely not news.  Years ago, Dr. Emmert essentially stepped down from active duty as the President of the single most vital [but unfortunately, ineffective] U.S. sports organization.

Could it be that he realized that no matter what efforts were made the NCAA just could not attain the same elite level of corruption as FIFA and the IOC?

Once a dream dies, the fire goes out and it's time to move to Florida to bitch about kids and hit the early birds.

This should kick off an bizzaro job search for the NCAA.  Instead of looking for the most competent candidate, they'll be looking for the worst.  Emmert (that's how it's spelled, BTW) set a mighty low bar to get under.

The NCAA Executive President is a bit like the pro sports league commissioners.  He/they work at the behest of the University Presidents/team owners.  They aren't always mouthpieces, but they often are.

Is what it is.  View Emmert in that light and all his major decisions (being anti-NIL, the Ed "I don't know what state Tulsa is in" O'Bannon lawsuit, and the various sanctions or non-sanctions against schools) make more sense.  View Emmert in that light and his performance was adequate, not terrible.

On one other thing: I don't think there is anyone who could have stopped the shift toward what now seems inevitable: the Power 5/Power 4 breaking away from the rest of the FBS.  It's the big-school University Presidents who are the ones who ultimately want that Power 5/4 break away.

In an effort to streamline management decisions, today the SEC announced Greg Sankey will  become leader of the NCAA and ESPN. Sankey will maintain his duties as commissioner of the SEC, Any further bitching from the Big Ten/ACC/PAC-12 Circle of Friends will be addressed through tournament seeding.

I have no doubt he's going to give himself a massive bonus before he leaves. Despite that it's wonderful news that he is leaving. Burn the whole thing to the ground and start new.

While it's fun to mock Mark, he's essentially a messenger boy for an organization that can't figure out what it wants.

Actually, what it wants is the good old days when they could protect their money grab by simply spouting "student-athlete."

But with that no longer an option, they're groping (each other?) in the dark.

Back in Biz School I learned about the so-called Peter Principle, talented people rise to the level of their incompetence where they finally show they are human and not God's gift to mankind. Mark is clearly a poster child of that principle.

How about the "late" Mr. Hand and his "I don't know" reply to Jeff Spicoli. Really, the NCAA is about as powerful these days as Mr. Hand was policing his history class.
