This is ridiculous and I hope the shooter serves serious time.  Wow.  I, for one, am hoping that Saban bolts Bama and heads for Austin.  Surely he sees the crazy down there and after 8 years is ready to move on.

Y'all're right. Deliverance is basically a documentary of my daily life. Clearly inferior to the midwest. Guess y'all're just more evolved than we are. Yep. Don't mind my hick self, just gonna go throw in some chewin' tobaccah and then impregnate my cousin.

"Dawg, why'd you miss that 57-yard field goal you suck go die!"

Seriously though, his coaches might as well have painted a bullseye on him. Why anyone would be threatening him instead of the coaches who put him in a position to fail and didn't coach up the other ten players to watch for a return and maintain their lanes is beyond me.

Maybe it would look different if I were a spoiled Bama fan whose manifest destiny was to win every game from here into eternity. How many coaches do you think they'll burn through in the decade after Saban leaves/retires when they don't win the National Championship each year?

We've pretty much passed the point where anyone can say "don't let a few bad apples spoil the batch" when it comes to the Alabama fanbase.  Murder, tree-killing, death threats to the kicker, tea-bagged LSU fans..... basically what it's come to is, if you are an Alabama fan, you're a sick fuck unless you can prove otherwise.

Its about a hour away from Birmingham. As everyone knows football is king and religious down here. They take this stuff way to serious and use excuses like, "Its just to much Bama in me." There's not a lot of entertainment down here and that's putting it lightly. There's no pro teams so all they have is "roll tide" or "war eagle". That's why horrible senseless things like this can happen. The kicker and his family are also getting death threats.

Nothing new.  I remember several years back a news story about a man that shot his wife in frustration over an Alabama loss.  And this was before Saban was hired and Alabama lost quite often.

Well at least Michigan has Al Borges for years to come. Should never have to worry anyone taking winning that seriously.

I lived in Alabama when they made their title run in '09. Bama football is ALL that a lot of people there have. It's like something out of a movie.

What the hell is wrong with people? Maybe this week is a good week to skip TWIS. Not that there's any pleasure to be taken from this in any way, but the opposite; pointing out how nuts fans can be over a football game isn't really that funny when people start acting out on being nuts.

I was shocked at how nice they were and were knowledgable and seemed interested in our team...sat around a good number of them.

But then again, the majority of the folks in Dallas probably have a different background than those who shoot each other over a game in a parking lot.

The Alabama fan base is a fractious mix of two distinct groups who can't really stand each other.

At the top of the list is the 10-15% of the fan base that could actually be admitted to Alabama or attended the school.

This group hates most of the rest of the Alabama fan base with a passionate fury.

Right now they are reading this column and silently nodding.

I love sports, especially UM sports, but this makes NO sense to me. If you allow your sports fandom to drive you to the point that you wish bodily harm on someone, or to actually inflict bodily harm on someone, then you simply don't have enough going on in your life. And whatever you do have going on can't be worth a whole hell of a lot. This is sad and stupid on so many levels.

People are in a stupor over the loss. 115 teams would love to be 11-1 right now. Alabama is going to a BCS bowl. No doubt at all about that at this point the question now is it the Rose, Orange, Sugar or outside chance of backing into the championship.

If wondering how those play out, FSU and OSU win out they go to the Orange if MSU is 14th or higher, Rose if MSU is lower. FSU wins and OSU loses then sec champ goes to BCG and Bama goes to sugar. If both lose then Bama get back in the championship.

Given that the fans are still feeling this is a losing season. They have won 91% of their games since 2009, 90% since 2008. These guys just don't think they should ever lose and it has made them crazy. Too many people have everything tied up on how the football team does.

Living here in Alabama is not a joke. They take football over god any time. I don't joke around with Alabama or auburn team. They remind me of Ohio fans big time mostly Alabama.

Will there now be an annual killing on behalf of the Tide after the Iron Bowl? Holy smokes! I heard when questioned, the shooter paraphrased Clint Eastwood and said, "Well, she should have armed herself, if she was going to laugh at my Tide."
