Ugh, I know!

Naivete or "affluenza" should not equal excusal. Just because everyone punches each other in your neighborhood, that does not make it ok to do so.

While we're at it, insanity does not not equal lack of guilt.  It might tell you why someone did something wrong, but I can't comprehend why that means people should not be held accoutnable for their actions.

for asking the Mississippi State AD if he thought it was reasonable that punching a woman in the face was worth the same punishment as a targeting call (hitting a player who agreed to play a violent game illegally).

I've looked for this before, but does anyone know WHY this woman was lying on the ground and being beaten to a pulp with a bunch of people standing around? It's a very odd scene in the video, like it's a neighborhood block party where it's normal to have two middle-aged women fighting and a 300 lb. kid beating on one of them.

Found this article that had more info on the circumstances:

"According to Hairston, Taylor returned to her apartment on Thursday after she received a telephone call from her babysitter, who told her that Taylor's 9-year-old daughter was arguing with Simmons' 10-year-old sister. Hairston said that when Taylor attempted to leave with her daughter, Simmons and others beat on her car.

Hairston said that Ashley Bradley, another one of Simmons' sisters, then pulled Taylor out of her car and struck her several times, and that after Taylor was pushed to the ground, Simmons struck her several times with his fists. At the end of the video, another woman is shown striking and kicking Taylor. According to Hairston, the woman was Simmons' mother, Brenda Bradley.

"My 4-year-old grandson had to watch them beating his mother," Hairston said."

Apparently an arugment between a 9 and 10 year old led to adult women beating the piss out of each other, at which time Simmons jumped in. Pretty ridiculous.

I'm not surprised no one else is helping, because of exactly what you said. I just think it's weird that there are a bunch of people even present. I've seen videos of high school kids gathering around for a fight at a park or in a vacant lot or something, but this isn't that. And the people aren't even getting hyped about it; they're just standing there like it's another ho-hum Tuesday afternoon. I don't know. I just found the scene to be very strange.

What those studies apparently didn't rake into account is that, especially in some neighborhoods, there are plenty of people who wouldn't see anything wrong with what was happening. For many in that video, I'm sure it was just an entertaining show.

I don't need to take a psych class to know that there aren't many people that are going to jump in front of a physically aggeressive 6-4 275 lb D-1 athlete. As horrible as this was it is easy for people on a message board to say they would have jumped right in to stop the kid but if they were actually there the odds are much less likely they actually do it.

he hasn't been convicted and is being tried on a misdemeanor. That's the problem. He should be locked up in jail, but if the justice system (that disproportionately locks up young black men) says nope then who are you to disagree?

If Mullen and Miss St. fans weren't huge women hating POS then they would have kicked him out of school.

Oh well, let's go to facebook and fake outrage over a gorilla.

If that gorilla was hit with a dart, which aren't immediately effective, he could have ripped that kids arms off just from being startled.

I don't give a fuck about the gorilla.  Human life > animal life, always.

If it was my kid in the cage, then absolutely I want them to shoot the gorilla.  That being said, there are a lot more 4 year olds in this world than silverbacks...

And for the record, I'm not some kind of PETA nutjob.  I kill animals all the time.  They tend to be delicious.

How in the hell is a public zoo set up so that a 4 year old can wander into a gorilla pen?

4 year olds will go anywhere they can physically get into.  Why would a zoo leave themselves open to that risk?  They are hoping that some criminally negligent parent is going to take the place of a real fence?

Both the parent and the zoo admins should be in jail.

You can't send a parent to jail for that. How many times do little kids run away from mom and dad in a store, or climb up on something when mommy's turned around cleaning up a spilled drink or ice cream cone? I'm not saying the parent deserves an award, but kids are slippery and she was supposedly there with multiple children. Crap happens.

Like you said, the exhibit should be impossible for a 3-year-old to enter. And when you're designing a gorilla exhibit - and not a petting zoo - then it shouldn't be difficult to make it impenetrable.

If nobody ever disagreed with the Mississippi justice system, schools would still be segragated down there and the police would be standing at the doors of voting precincts. I have no problem disagreeing with a court there or anywhere for that matter.

For some godforsaken reason, I decided to wade into the comments section on the link, and I am now dumber for having done so. If you didn't hate the SEC before, read some of the comments.

I don't know why makes me more sick, the fact that this happened, the way the coaching staff is handling it, or the fact that I'm so numb to it now my natural response is just "whatever"

Roger (Pig Vomit) Goodell wants to further punish the worst person in the history of football. You know, bad guy for leading the effort for Best Buddies and helping out with the following.  What a horrible role model and person!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tom Brady made a surprise appearance at the Kelley for Ellie breast cancer benefit last night, thrilling the
ladies and raising a ton of dough when he offered to autograph footballs and toss them to everyone who ponied up at least $1,000 for the cause.

“We are so grateful that Tom Brady made the 10th Kelley for Ellie the best one yet,” said event founder WCVB’s Kelley Tuthill. “Several women in the crowd are going through challenging breast cancer treatments right now. What a lift it was for them to see New England’s biggest superstar show he also has the biggest heart.”

Remember when people were excited about the possibility of Dan Mullen becoming the next UM head coach?

WolverineHistorian

I don't remember much excitement but I remember the general feeling of him being the biggest name coach we'd want to target other than Les Miles. The possibility of Harbaugh was a pipe dream at the time. But then there was full out panic here when Nebraska hired Mike Riley because if THAT was the best they could do, what train wreck could we get?
