“We expect the structure and discipline Jeffery will be a part of in our football program to benefit him. Jeffery will be held accountable for his actions while at MSU, and there will be consequences for any future incidents.”

You mean just like he's being held accountable right now, by merely inconveniencing him for one game against a shitty opponent? Oh, and satellite camps are akin to National Socialism, by the way.

I don't know what Dan Mullen thinks is going on while he spends that precious time with his family, but it is very unfortunate shit indeed.

Immediate takeaway from that video is that Simmons' mom would be quite a 3-4 NT.  Great pad level and a real mean streak.

All joking aside, that's pretty terrible and a 1 game suspension laughable.

It's one thing for the coach to offer up the weak punishment, but the school shouldn't let the kid be on their campus, especially for free.  Mullen deserves blame, but so does their president and everyone else who could've prevented his admittance.

What a disgusting display. Mullen you are a fucking piece of trash. An embarrassment to the sport, your "university" and human beings everywhere. You fucking suck.

IMO, Simmons did nothing wrong.  To see why I think that, you need to watch this longer version of the incident from a little different angle:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DVqO10ty5WI

The woman in blue initiated the violence against Simmons sister who is in white, and continues to throw punches and pull hair.  Simmons tried to separate them and when he could not because they are pulling hair, he punched the instigator to make her let go of his sister.

What else should he have done?  He tried to separate them, he clearly could have hit the woman a lot harder, and he stopped once the two were separated.  In fact, as the other angle posted above shows, he make at least some effort to stop a woman from continuing to hit the woman in blue after she let go of his sister.

If he had done nothing, his sister would have been subject to additional violence.

Simmons and his sister hung around and courted disaster with this, inciting/encouraging the confrontation with the other woman, so they are absolutely at fault for their actions.

Just a disgraceful display of violence overall - especially between two adult women with a bunch of mothers and little children looking on.  Excellent parenting and modeling right there.

But Simmons is accountable for using his arms to hit that woman. I don't see how what he did was self-defense, particularly given that his sister and woman both provoked the fight in the first place.

Dumb.

Respectfully disagree.  Simmons sister is in an argument with the woman in blue, but the woman in blue initiates the violence with a punch.  I agree that Simmons sister does not come off looking great in that video, but she did nothing to deserve to be assaulted.

And I have no sympathy for a person who initiates violence and gets beat up in the end, particularly given that Simmons tried twice to separate them, and he then makes some effort to defend the woman in blue from further violence.

He could have preemptively counseled his sister on being a dumb ass and/or walking away from a senseless parking lot fight.  He could have put himself between his sister and the other person. He could have pulled her away and restrained her. He could have gotten help restraining both of them.   He could have let it work itself out.

What he did do, was repeatedly strike a prone woman and then allowed his sister to have open shots at her.  The violence was two-way when he decided to intervene, and once that happens they are both guilty.  I don't expect subtlety, problem solving or conflict resolutions skills from buckeye fans, so in that regard, your opinion isn't dissappointing.

The "violence was two way"?  So his sister is guilty for defending herself against an assault?

Try watching the video again -- people are trying to separate them, and cannot.

What would you have done if you mother/sister/wife/daughter was the victim of a similar assault?  Would you have just let it play out?

Sure, in the ideal word, he takes the two women to counseling.  Or he steps in to separate them.  But he does not deserve to labled a violent criminal for failing to take those steps.

And your line "I don't expect subtlety, problem solving or conflict resolutions skills from buckeye fans, so in that regard, your opinion isn't dissappointing."  Are you really so angry that you cannot have a civil conversation?

I'm not angry at all, but I find your angle preposterous.  He didn't break up the fight, he was a participant in it. You are unable to see the difference, so yes, there is little sense in discussion.

Also, as someone who has watched the police arrest both people in a fight (someone always throws the first punch), they are both guilty.

Meh.  He's 300 lbs.  He could have easily pulled her off without punching her.  He barely tried, then went straight to punches.

I'm not saying lock him up or even block him from Miss State, but he should not be playing football for them in 2106.

Holy shit, what a piece of garbage. I can't wait until yet another SEC coach tries to stand on a soapbox about anything, anywhere in the country. What a fucking joke.

And they will have earned it.  If they spent even 1 second worrying about Harbaugh and satellite camps while they are mired in their neverending cesspool of criminal behavior, it's 1 second too many.

Shameless fuckers.
