OT: Louisville DC Todd Grantham Turns Down Raiders
I'm surprised. Oakland is Oakland but I don't think of Louisville as a prestige program.
I guess TV money is leveling the playing field for coaching talent. Grantham made almost $1 million last season...at Louisville...crazy!
"I'm grateful for the opportunity to have interviewed for the defensive coordinator position with the Oakland Raiders, but I'm committed to the University of Louisville," Grantham said. "I said when I came to Louisville that I thought we could win a national championship, and we are building toward that goal with the success we had this season.

Guess the Raiders aren't in play for Todd.

"they were not going to hire me so I made it look like I turned them down", I am sure a requisite bump in retention bonus will be deposited by Louisville Athletics Department into his bank account.

they made him a legit 2 year offer and named him their #1 choice after the interview.

Value City is a furniture/retail chain owned by the Schottenstein family. I guess it would sound funny if you didn't know that.

Oh, so you studied Qbs?
Excuse me, who are you again??
Derek Carr may or may not be good. Making claims about his future is exceptionally hasty at this point.

I think he means Bill Polian, who may or may not be Polish. And he is the former D-? football player, or coach or something that knows more than any of us, about everything football related. Mr. Bamf that is..

Where does your Lions fandom come from? I'd get so annoyed with you during Lions Open Threads. You're a guy who has obviously had a lot of passion for that franchise for a long time, but man you'd go off on how bad that team really was.
FTR I'm not trynig to be a jerk, or start a fight. I'm genuinely curious.

I love football. I've watched that team do everything but win a Super Bowl. I'm passionate about them because I love the sport. Michigan will always be my number one team. There is no doubt about that. But I do what to see the Lions win badly. Their inability to get over the hump like Seattle and others have done is immensely frustrating to me. I think this is true for most Lions fans.
If the Lions ever won a Super Bowl the party in Michigan would be unlike any this state has seen.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that you weren't alive for any of those Super Bowl wins.

I don't care who ya are.

They don't yet know where they will be playing in 2016 and their owner has the kind of judgment that leads to decisions like wearing skinny white pants.

You can talk if the Raiders actually do something this, but as of now your words are mere bluster.
Btw, the Raiders come to Ford Field in 2015.

The ghost of Al Davis is still there and will ensure they screw this up. This is sad because IMO the NFL is more fun.when the Raiders are good, but I can't shake the feeling they're going on a run of futility to match that of the Lions.

Kind of hard to accept the head coaching position at Oakland when Jim Harbaugh is already the coach there, correct?

January 29th, 2015 at 5:05 PM ^
Shhhhhh... don't say " don't think of Louisville as a prestige program" too loudly. Those arrogant Card fans seriously think their football program is bad ass. It's hilarious.

No one would ever turn down the NFL. Protect the shield, protect the shield!!!

I think coaches are beginning to realize that the NFL is too cut throat. College football is cut throat enough, but you know, if you got a pretty good gig in college football at what I'd consider a pretty stable program in Louisville, you can build yourself a pretty nice career without having to worry so much about the year-to-year moving, instability, threat on your job, etc. You can actually build something and own something. And that may be a better path to a head coaching job anyway.

was the $$$. All of a sudden, the $$$ is there in college football.
Honestly, as far as I can see, the only real drawback to college coaching is the recruiting. Other than that, it seems better in every way. Given the amount of money in college these days, I'd rather be a coach at a power college program than an NFL coach. You can almost certainly get better job security, and your efforts are going to translate to results on the field more readily than they will in the NFL, where the entire system is setup to push you towards mediocrity.

Honestly, I bet a decent number of coaches prefer recruiting and building their own roster. Sure, it's going to be far easier to do so at a Michigan or Ohio State than at a Marshall or EMU, but I have to think some see the extra work as worth it to get the guys you want. There's got to be some satisfaction in it being your team from top to bottom as well as avoiding dealing with NFL prima donnas
