They were actually going to give a year’s supply of beer to anyone who could make it but there’s apparently a prohibition related law that prohibits giving away booze as a prize. They changed it up last minute to give an all expenses paid trip to the nfl game of the successful kicker’s choice.

The kicker is that they were going to give away the trip to EVERYONE who successfully made the kick. Old man weather was on their side, further preventing anyone from getting close.

They have some special editions which are pretty pricey. And let's be real - some of their beers are barely average, but they also have some really good beers. Green Line and 312 are perfectly acceptable beers, and the more limited runs like Matilda are excellent. I've only had a couple of their Bourbon county beers - one i liked, one I didn't. I like their Kolsch. Not a fan of Honker's or the IPA (or IPAs in general). I could do without most fruit and sour beers, including Goose Island's. Many people like Juliet, but not a fan of sours :)
On topic, the snowy conditions made it darn near impossible.

My bar is really low. If it's better than Budweiser/Miller (i.e., any mass-marketed domestic beer) I'll generally drink it. I grew up in an age where Labatt Blue was considered premium beer. I've been dazzled by the craft beer explosion. Even the crappy ones taste great to me.
312 is generally available at Aldi, btw. It's right next to the Aldi brands, which all seem to be brewed in Rochester, NY.

I find many beers that try poorly to be craft much more repulsive than the mass-manufactured beers that aren't trying for more, like Coors or Budweiser/Miller. Light, mass produced beers serve a purpose: they are drinkable on summer days, they are cheap, etc. When Inbev tries to make craft beers they tend (not always, but most of the time) to make beers that are sickly sweet, or undrinkably hoppy, or oddly light for a beer that should have flavor. They fuck up almost every attempt at craft beer creation.

I used to enjoy 312 a while back in mid/late 2000s. It was a solid wheat. But InBev killed that. It’s no longer something I would ever buy myself.

At one point they were one of the earliest and best craft breweries in the US. Then they sold to Anheuser Busch-InBev. It all went downhill from there.

The beer I believe you are referring to is the Bourbon County Brand Stout. It is a Stout that is aged in 12-year old Elijah Craig Barrel Proof bourbon barrels. At 15.2% ABV, it will mature nicely in the bottle for the next few years. On the label Goose Island states to age this beer up to five years.
Of course, Goose Island sells many other types of brews; IPA, Wheat, Rye, etc. at similar prices to what you would see for other craft beers. However, with the purchase of Goose Island by InBev, they are not what I would call a “craft” beer, save for the Bourbon County Brand Stout.

That's the one I was talking about. A person in a different board said his boss bought each of them a couple of bottles of that bourbon barrel stout when they were in Chicago. He said he was thinking about aging his.
I didn't know they sold out to a larger company.

A sub-brand of Annheuser Busch InBev. When they were independent they used to have a number of good beers but now seem to operate as a hedge against the yellow beer industry’s uncertain future

LOL I grew up in the dim reaches of the past when Coors was regarded in SE Michigan as an awesome exotic beer because it wasn't sold east of the Mississippi. Once distribution went national and it became widely available around here, I understood why its other name was Rocky Mountain Cowboy Piss.

I have always hated Goose Island even before it was cool to hate them.
However, they were handing out Goose Island beers after I ran the Chicago Marathon last year and I have never had an IPA taste as good. So, just torture yourself for three and a half hours then you can truly appreciate their beer I guess.

I don’t know when it became cool to hate them..all I know is that whenever I’m in Ohare, I can only find that IPA, and there is not a worse beer that I’ve had.
For them to sponsor a contest that focuses on a guy who screwed up, has a very high degree of irony.

This was so predictable. Some friends and me will be replicating this event in West Michigan this spring as a fundraiser. We are going to start with extra points and 30 yarders and build up to the old 4-3. My guess is nobody does it then either.
I had a lot of good times at the old Goose Island pubs "back in the day".

Kicked in high school (as well as wingback and OLB) and was perfect on XPs. Could consistently hit from 35 yards and in.
probably can’t get it above the crossbar nowadays but it’s worth it to make a fool of myself for charity

My season tickets buddy and I would go early to media/picture day @ the big house and kick field goals. In 2000, I made a 40 yd attempt off a tee. Can't imagine kicking in bad weather though ?. Read where Inbev laid off most of GI management shortly after acquisition. Haven't bought any since!!

Kicked a 47 yarder as a 13 year old in a game where we were up 8-0. I used to hate playing the Wayne eagles bc they had wolverine helmets and colors. Should have stuck with kicking.

We were at Jerry World yesterday for a family friends’ baby birthday party. He has access to the field and we went down to kick field goals and such. Like to think I’m a fairly versatile athlete, yet shanked 5 kicks in a row from 30yds out, indoor, no rush. Last kick of day, for I had to make one, split the uprights, with maybe 5yds to spare from 30
So, yeah, it stands to reason most of us aren’t kicking professionally and we would do well to maintain a level of empathy.

I was watching on the live stream, one guy had the distance and missed a bit wide left, and the closest on-target one was 5-10 yards short. More people hit the taproom building or the trees than had it directionally on target.
I think some may have made it if if hadn't been snowing but in that weather, good luck.
