OT: First Responder Bowl canceled
https://twitter.com/FRBowl/status/1078022774097170439
The First Responder Bowl between Boise State and Boston College has been canceled due to inclement weather and tornado warnings in the area. A lot of people on social media are pissed.
I think it sucks that it got canceled, but the safety of people at the stadium is top priority so this makes sense

How dare they care about player and fan safety. /s
December 26th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
And by fan, you mean the 1 person who would actually pay to see this bowl game.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:23 PM ^
ServePro 1st Responders Bowl..........Like it didn't even happen!
Meme to follow.
December 26th, 2018 at 6:04 PM ^
what snowflakes everyone has become. there has been "inclement" weather forever. and yet somehow games didn't get delayed or cancelled every time it looked like it might rain or "something" might happen.
December 26th, 2018 at 8:57 PM ^
Wipe the tears from your eyes, it's gonna be okay.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:14 PM ^
Not 100% sure that it's even possible to be much lamer than this. Do you just go around looking for places that might vaguely accommodate that ridiculous meme? Do you think that law enforcement and public safety officials--let alone the sponsors, with their huge investment in the game--would take shutting the damned thing down at all lightly?
December 26th, 2018 at 9:50 PM ^
When I checked in on the game earlier today there was lightning in the area, but be an ass if you so choose.
December 27th, 2018 at 12:34 AM ^
Back in my day, when there was lightning, we still walked to school. Waving golf clubs and standing under trees. But we didn't complain. We were thankful. We couldn't afford no store bought electricity, so when we got hit by lightning, we took all that extra free electricity home to share with the whole family.
December 26th, 2018 at 10:01 PM ^
I'm with you. Just give everyone an AR when they enter the stadium and let them blast the shit out of that tornado (or tornada I guess. Don't need the me too crowd on my ass) when it tries to infringe on them. That's what my grandpa woulda done.
December 26th, 2018 at 10:48 PM ^
Kudos, you managed a comment more ignorant than his...... Quite an accomplishment.
December 27th, 2018 at 10:47 AM ^
You're missing the point of #metoo. It's being allowed to stay away from your ass that they're after...
December 26th, 2018 at 10:14 PM ^
You should read this story, pistol. (I could have picked any number of others)

Agreed, this is why I don't wear seat belts and I rip air bags out of my cars when I buy them. Need to toughen them up a bit.
December 27th, 2018 at 9:09 PM ^
I believe it was for a tornado warning. Even the World Series or the Super Bowl would get delayed to the ends of the earth with a local tornado warning. Go back to pouring milkshakes you clown.
December 26th, 2018 at 3:58 PM ^
Weird, you would think they would at least postpone it and play at a later date.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:12 PM ^
The logistics of that would be nightmarish for what essentially amounts to a glorified exhibition game.
December 26th, 2018 at 5:15 PM ^
Nothing says "meaningless bowl game" like one that is not even worth rescheduling.
This should be our new test if a bowl is meaningless or not: Would they reschedule it if it got cancelled? (And everyone would come back.)
CFP games: Check.
NY6 Rose Bowl: Check.
NY6 Sugar Bowl: Check.
NY6 Orange Bowl: Check.
NY6 Cotton Bowl: Probably Check
NY6 Fiesta Bowl: Depends. Not this year.
NY6 Peach Bowl: Depends. Not this year.
All other bowls: Forget it.
December 26th, 2018 at 5:32 PM ^
After the CFP games they're all pretty much meaningless, aren't they?
December 26th, 2018 at 8:20 PM ^
This whole thing about bowl being meaningless is absurd. Will you really not be watching it? Does the fact that it won't be rescheduled make it meaningless? If it were actually meaningless, do you think they'd play it at all? You might not be into it, fine. There are things all over the world that I am personally not into. That does not make them meaningless.
I care about the bowl game. It matters to me whether Michigan is in the Peach Bowl or the RedBox Bowl, or misses a bowl altogether. And beating Florida is better than losing to them. Therefore this game is not meaningless to me. You can decide how much meaning it has for you, but stop making that decision for the rest of us.
December 26th, 2018 at 8:23 PM ^
Fully agree.
I'm going to the Peach Bowl, so obviously it's NOT even close to meaningless to me.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:29 PM ^
taps robf on the shoulder: you know, rob, you are required to have a go-pro camera strapped to your forehead and to record all the great stuff leading up to, and including, our victory. please find that tailgate and say 'hello' to all the maize and blue faithful.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:47 PM ^
By asking a question I'm making a decision for you?
December 26th, 2018 at 8:40 PM ^
Lol, not bad, but the real test should be how pissed the fan base will be if they lose. Think this Peach Bowl is meaningless? I’m sure the board will melt down if we lose, ergo, it has meaning.
December 26th, 2018 at 8:42 PM ^
Fuck Servpro. Those assholes cost me a lot of money in a lawsuit. They are scammers.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:19 PM ^
They are scammers. I used them last year to clean my house after a fire. Final bill was $20k and would have been a lot higher if I hadn’t told them to remove all the fans they left in my house not being used. They charge the insurance company a high daily rate so no wonder they just left them. To me, that’s fraud and will never use them again (hopefully no service like that again).
December 26th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
Imagine spending all that money to travel from Boise, Idaho to Dallas for the game, and it gets cancelled in the first quarter. I hope some of those people find a way to get refunds for something.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:14 PM ^
What, no sorrow for the 3 fans from Beantown who traveled cross country to see the game?
December 26th, 2018 at 6:55 PM ^
Boston can drop into a damn hole in the ground.
December 26th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
The last thing we need is first responders responding to the First Responder Bowl
December 26th, 2018 at 4:15 PM ^
Bowl name checks out
December 26th, 2018 at 5:06 PM ^
Well, yes....why the joke was made
December 26th, 2018 at 3:59 PM ^
So at least this bowl is meaningless?
December 26th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
It makes sense to protect the players, spectators, and staff. But it must also suck for two teams that did prepare for this game and were, I assume, somewhat excited about it. And Boise St. had a chance at 11 wins if they won that game; that's a mark not a ton of teams get to regardless of level of competition.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
Yeah but you can't have people getting hit with wind. It might offend their delicate sensitivities.
Relatedly: When was the last time a fan or player was injured by inclement weather? Has a fan been struck by lightning or carried off to Oz by a tornado or what?
December 26th, 2018 at 5:48 PM ^
Better safe than sorry man. Lawsuits aren't fun.
December 26th, 2018 at 7:36 PM ^
"better safe than sorry"? are you fucking kidding? with that kind of "snowflake" logic why ever leave the house. this overly sensitive country we live in now is so pussified its embarrasing.
December 26th, 2018 at 7:56 PM ^
You obviously don't have a job where you're responsible for other people.
December 26th, 2018 at 8:52 PM ^
You sound pretty offended, snowflake.
December 26th, 2018 at 11:19 PM ^
I like the cut of your jib, you seem like the kind of guy who wouldn’t let a little drizzle stop the greatest round of your life at Bushwood CC.
December 27th, 2018 at 9:05 PM ^
I'm failing to see how the phrase "better safe than sorry" in reference to a potential lawsuit makes me a snowflake who is ruining the country. In reality, it's probably the whack-jobs who freak out about miniscule shit like this that are the problem.
December 27th, 2018 at 9:10 PM ^
and actually, looking through your past comments, you just seem like an angry, bitter, old, "snowflake"
December 26th, 2018 at 7:42 PM ^
It happens a lot at nascar races. Fans get struck in the parking lot
December 26th, 2018 at 10:36 PM ^
I'm sure nobody wants to be the first to be the answer to either of those trivia questions, hence why they cancel games.
December 26th, 2018 at 5:25 PM ^
It does suck for the teams, coaches, students and fans of those teams.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:00 PM ^
Even bowl games are sitting out bowl games this year.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
LOL now that was funny
December 26th, 2018 at 4:47 PM ^
Bravo
December 26th, 2018 at 5:13 PM ^
Shut down the thread, that is the winning comment!
