The First Responder Bowl between Boise State and Boston College has been canceled due to inclement weather and tornado warnings in the area. A lot of people on social media are pissed.

I think it sucks that it got canceled, but the safety of people at the stadium is top priority so this makes sense

Time for bowls to be in the north. Might get snow, but no tornados, fires, earthquakes, mud slides, gators....

you do have the Idaho Potato bowl or whatever in Boise. there has been snow for that before.  and the pinstripe in NYC had snow a couple of years ago?

would love to have the rose bowl alternate between pasadena and ann arbor every year.  or soldier field....

I'm waiting for someone to say "See? This is how irrelevant the non-playoff bowl games are. They would never cancel the playoff games." I'm also waiting for someone to reply to me with that exact quote.

We'd all be super pissed if the Peach Bowl got canceled.

Minus the Rose Bowl aren't all the playoff game locations in a dome? (as is the Peach Bowl) So the likelihood of those ever getting canceled is very low...minus a hurricane ever hitting New Orleans in January. But, yeah, I'd only be pissed about the Peach Bowl getting canceled if I was going to the game.

Haha, you are going to get it for this comment. My thoughts exactly though. Don’t care a bit about the outcome. I had to think for a while about who UM played and in what game last year. Granted the choices are almost always Citrus or Gater and against Florida, but still. I’m excited to see if they roll out some new wrinkles on offense and to see young guys get time. Just like the spring game. If they run Evans into the line on 1st and 2nd down, I’ll laugh a bit, and move on with my day. Sure I hope they win, but don’t care. If the weather was bad, they would cancel and not reschedule this game too, just like the spring game.

The players don't care.  The team, wishful thinking, has four players that have decided this game means so little they aren't willing to participate.  The coach is good with that attitude as is the rest of the team.  So I ask you, if the players and coaches don't care much about the game, why should anyone else?

There are no tornado warnings in the area, theres not even a severe thunderstorm warning in the DFW area. But it is true that itd likely be a messy and hardly enjoyable affair if they tried to get the game in today as there are storms in the vicinity and will be over the next several hours.

That said, that storm threat was in the forecast, so either you postpone the game in advance or try to get the game in no matter if it takes 12 hours. I wonder just how interested both those teams actually are in playing the game.

Well if there's one game to play in which you would think there'd be enough emergency responders around, this would be the game. I say roll the dice.

Bowl games are a thing of the past...a Dying breed..players sitting out/ 3/4 empty stadiums in destinations that are just AWFUL...I used to watch every single bowl games now I hardly watch any...College football playoffs are not a playoff but still a MNC when only 4 teams compete..College Football is killing itself...Its amazing how fast interest is dropping sisnce the CFP began.  and its Alabama and everybody else EVERY year

I hate the playoff system.  I didn't like the BCS thing either.  I'm an old-fashioned, and just-plain-old guy who liked the bowl/conference alignments and all the discussion around who the best team was.  Hell, that was good for hours of debate well into February.

Bah, humbug.

It's a sad day for the hallowed traditions and pageantry of the First Responder Bowl. First it's grandeur was diminished by the College Football Playoff, and now this? I had definitely heard of it before today, and was also aware that both Boise State and Boston College had Division 1 football teams.

Sad.  I saw the title and just assumed they didn't sell enough tickets.  Weather didn't even cross my mind.  Lot of travel for fans that don't care about those schools.

Last “spring” (35 degree rain that turned to ice & snow) when they cancelled the Spring Game we were SO bummed but in the end, the right thing to do. A Bowl game is a bigger deal in terms of making the call to cancel but I’m sure they didn’t cancel for the fun of it.
