OT: First Responder Bowl canceled
https://twitter.com/FRBowl/status/1078022774097170439
The First Responder Bowl between Boise State and Boston College has been canceled due to inclement weather and tornado warnings in the area. A lot of people on social media are pissed.
I think it sucks that it got canceled, but the safety of people at the stadium is top priority so this makes sense

What, cancel the thread now in the middle of the first quarter?
December 26th, 2018 at 5:30 PM ^
We have cancelled threads in the first quarter before, and believe me, it WAS for safety concerns, but usually the safety of the OP.
December 27th, 2018 at 9:19 AM ^
Don't be so quick to judge.
Even though I think it's delusional, the First Responder Bowl thinks it has a legitimate shot at being an NFC Wild Card game at the next level.

Time for bowls to be in the north. Might get snow, but no tornados, fires, earthquakes, mud slides, gators....
December 26th, 2018 at 5:19 PM ^
There’s also no “shark activities” in the area, so some nameless coaches might not want to go to northern bowl games.
December 26th, 2018 at 6:01 PM ^
not our problem now. he gone to mt. pleasant. senor tibaron.
December 26th, 2018 at 7:22 PM ^
you do have the Idaho Potato bowl or whatever in Boise. there has been snow for that before. and the pinstripe in NYC had snow a couple of years ago?
would love to have the rose bowl alternate between pasadena and ann arbor every year. or soldier field....

I'm waiting for someone to say "See? This is how irrelevant the non-playoff bowl games are. They would never cancel the playoff games." I'm also waiting for someone to reply to me with that exact quote.
We'd all be super pissed if the Peach Bowl got canceled.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:27 PM ^
See? This is how irrelevant the non-playoff bowl games are. They would never cancel the playoff games.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:32 PM ^
Minus the Rose Bowl aren't all the playoff game locations in a dome? (as is the Peach Bowl) So the likelihood of those ever getting canceled is very low...minus a hurricane ever hitting New Orleans in January. But, yeah, I'd only be pissed about the Peach Bowl getting canceled if I was going to the game.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:48 PM ^
The Orange Bowl is very much played outside.
The national championship is also play outside this year at Levi Stadium in Santa Clara.

December 26th, 2018 at 4:47 PM ^
I would be about as pissed as I would be if the spring game were cancelled.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:54 PM ^
I was going to say the same. Not all that excited for this game.
December 26th, 2018 at 5:54 PM ^
Haha, you are going to get it for this comment. My thoughts exactly though. Don’t care a bit about the outcome. I had to think for a while about who UM played and in what game last year. Granted the choices are almost always Citrus or Gater and against Florida, but still. I’m excited to see if they roll out some new wrinkles on offense and to see young guys get time. Just like the spring game. If they run Evans into the line on 1st and 2nd down, I’ll laugh a bit, and move on with my day. Sure I hope they win, but don’t care. If the weather was bad, they would cancel and not reschedule this game too, just like the spring game.
December 26th, 2018 at 6:48 PM ^
Exactly. I mean, don't get me wrong, I will watch the game, and I'm glad we get bowl practices and some game experience for the younger players.
December 26th, 2018 at 8:31 PM ^
Jesus this blog has gotten insufferable. We have people the day after Christmas writing on a blog about a team whose New Years 6 bowl they don't care about. Let me reiterate - you people care so little about Michigan's bowl that you came onto a blog to write about it.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:51 PM ^
The players don't care. The team, wishful thinking, has four players that have decided this game means so little they aren't willing to participate. The coach is good with that attitude as is the rest of the team. So I ask you, if the players and coaches don't care much about the game, why should anyone else?
December 26th, 2018 at 5:43 PM ^
If the Peach Bowl would be cancelled I'd be as pissed as Rashan Gary, JBB, Devin Bush, or Karan Higdon that the game was cancelled.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:05 PM ^
There are no tornado warnings in the area, theres not even a severe thunderstorm warning in the DFW area. But it is true that itd likely be a messy and hardly enjoyable affair if they tried to get the game in today as there are storms in the vicinity and will be over the next several hours.
That said, that storm threat was in the forecast, so either you postpone the game in advance or try to get the game in no matter if it takes 12 hours. I wonder just how interested both those teams actually are in playing the game.
December 26th, 2018 at 9:22 PM ^
I have a hunch that if the kids all went there and practiced for several weeks they wanted to play.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:06 PM ^
Had BC +2.5....Weak
December 26th, 2018 at 4:07 PM ^
Both fans in attendance are PISSED
December 26th, 2018 at 4:08 PM ^
Cancelled seems shitty. They should have rescheduled, which is also shitty but less so.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:09 PM ^
Why is the safety of the people at the stadium a top priority?
December 26th, 2018 at 4:28 PM ^
I dunno. Probably best to put them out of their misery.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
Lawsuits.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:12 PM ^
Good. Can't risk getting injured before the NFL.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:18 PM ^
Well if there's one game to play in which you would think there'd be enough emergency responders around, this would be the game. I say roll the dice.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:19 PM ^
So Dillon's career bowl record is going to be 0-1
December 26th, 2018 at 4:21 PM ^
That's a first.......
responder bowl, first.
December 27th, 2018 at 1:15 PM ^
It was also the first first responder bowl to be the first bowl of the season to cancel and the first first responder bowl to be responded to about being the first first responder bowl to cancel. I wonder how they will first respond to the responses?
December 26th, 2018 at 4:22 PM ^
Didn't even know this was being played today.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:29 PM ^
This cannot happen to the Cheez-It Bowl. America needs a Cheez-It Bowl.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:35 PM ^
After enough Cheez-Its, America will also need a first responder.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:37 PM ^
Bowl games are a thing of the past...a Dying breed..players sitting out/ 3/4 empty stadiums in destinations that are just AWFUL...I used to watch every single bowl games now I hardly watch any...College football playoffs are not a playoff but still a MNC when only 4 teams compete..College Football is killing itself...Its amazing how fast interest is dropping sisnce the CFP began. and its Alabama and everybody else EVERY year
December 26th, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
I hate the playoff system. I didn't like the BCS thing either. I'm an old-fashioned, and just-plain-old guy who liked the bowl/conference alignments and all the discussion around who the best team was. Hell, that was good for hours of debate well into February.
Bah, humbug.
December 26th, 2018 at 5:01 PM ^
You forgot, "GET OFF MY LAWN!!!"
December 26th, 2018 at 4:46 PM ^
Sorry, this is wrong. Nobody has ever cared about the First Responder Bowl, or any of the other meaningless bowls. There have always been about 2 to 3 bowls that mattered, and it's the same now.
December 26th, 2018 at 11:02 PM ^
Unless you do bowl confidence point pools for money every year you do.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:44 PM ^
It's a sad day for the hallowed traditions and pageantry of the First Responder Bowl. First it's grandeur was diminished by the College Football Playoff, and now this? I had definitely heard of it before today, and was also aware that both Boise State and Boston College had Division 1 football teams.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:52 PM ^
In all fairness......If it weren't for BC, we might not have Dr Blitz.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:50 PM ^
Sad. I saw the title and just assumed they didn't sell enough tickets. Weather didn't even cross my mind. Lot of travel for fans that don't care about those schools.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:52 PM ^
Last “spring” (35 degree rain that turned to ice & snow) when they cancelled the Spring Game we were SO bummed but in the end, the right thing to do. A Bowl game is a bigger deal in terms of making the call to cancel but I’m sure they didn’t cancel for the fun of it.
December 26th, 2018 at 4:55 PM ^
Well Boston College must be happy,I imagine they were declared the winner 7 -0
YeeHaw
December 26th, 2018 at 5:54 PM ^
So a bowl game honoring those who show up when really bad weather happens has been canceled because of really bad weather.
December 26th, 2018 at 5:57 PM ^
the stands were almost empty when i saw a bit of the first half so not a ton of people travelling for this bowl game.
December 26th, 2018 at 7:27 PM ^
I believe they were unable to respond to the issues.
December 26th, 2018 at 7:47 PM ^
That's hilarious.
December 26th, 2018 at 8:26 PM ^
Reschedule?
