OT: Dion Sims to the NFL
ESPN analyst Joe Schad has reported that Dion Sims has declared for the NFL Draft. Kind of surprising considering the way his season has gone. Even more susprising is he is the # 4 rated TE by ESPN.
Michigan State tight end Dion Sims will enter the NFL draft, according to a source

If Bell goes in addition they will have a very hard time on offense next year.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:14 PM ^
Yeah but I think Maxwell stays. Faster, more athletic version of Cousins. They'll be fine.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:27 PM ^
plus Damion Terry too. Sparty doesn't rebuild. They reload
January 2nd, 2013 at 9:27 PM ^
Don't forget that they recruit intergalacticly.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:34 PM ^
Don't forget, he has a stronger arm to.

Isn't Joe Boisture done with his redshirt decade soon?
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:16 PM ^
to NFL starter level.
January 2nd, 2013 at 9:44 PM ^
Maybe they will also declare early for the NFL draft...just like Sims is doing
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:19 PM ^
If Bell leaves, and it seems like he probably will, that offense will be putrid next year. They were a ranked around 109 this year and now they're losing their top two offensive threats. Rough.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:22 PM ^
Eh, according to the Mathlete's data (which predicted the huge production drop this year) they should've OK. Have most of the receiving yards back as well as all passing yards.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:25 PM ^
But OTOH, their whole offense was centered around Bell and the threat he posed to keep defenses honest. If their ground game doesn't offer that kind of threat next year, their passing game is going to have to take a big leap forward for the offense to improve.
January 2nd, 2013 at 10:53 PM ^
...next years losses in skill players may equal this years offensive line injuries. Still, I think we all agree that we won't be seeing Pac12 offensive numbers out of Sparty.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:20 PM ^
Not surprising at all. He's really good and has all the measurables. Problems with production were not a result of his natural ability as with the rest if the MSU offense.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:22 PM ^
He will have so much money to buy laptops once he's drafted.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:51 PM ^
Him and frank Clark for sure will.. Why go there???
January 2nd, 2013 at 8:10 PM ^
Because the classics never go out of style.
January 2nd, 2013 at 8:12 PM ^
True, but what Sims did is very different from what Clark did.
January 2nd, 2013 at 11:13 PM ^
You're missing the point though. A thief is a thief.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:22 PM ^
Good. That guy was tough to cover in the open field.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:27 PM ^
What other RBs do they have? Nick Hill? The fact that Bell was only one to take meaningful snaps at RB should worry you if you're an MSU fan.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:31 PM ^
Assuming Bell goes pro, Nick Hill will be MSU's leading returning rusher, with 48 yards on 21 carries.

Nick hill is the only other RB that actually got snaps that i saw and if he is the only returner that doesn't bode well.. He is MSU's V. Smith, yet not nearly as versatile. That freshman "kings" or w/e was supposed to have incredible speed, but couldn't crack any meaningful playing time in a bad offense
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:38 PM ^
Is Kings a RB? I thought he was supposed to be the new Keyshawn Martin
January 2nd, 2013 at 10:29 PM ^
Kings is a WR.

He is MSU's V. Smith, yet not nearly as versatile
This is the anti-Fred Jackson quote of the year. I do also realize that the year is technically only a few days old.
January 2nd, 2013 at 10:28 PM ^
I dont think Nick Hill will ever start for MSU. Most think Nick Tompkins is the guy.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:28 PM ^
For whatever reason, I thought this was referring to Deshawn Sims, and I was very confused, lol. I guess the I combined Dion Harris & Deshawn Sims into one name. Damn, I wish Deshawn Sims was the #4 TE in the draft.

for a few seconds.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:30 PM ^
well I'm sure Mork will just dip into his elite intergalactic recruiting and find a solid replacement.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:32 PM ^
Is he gonna take an official to Alabama before he goes pro?

Helmholdt confirms via twitter.

According to this article Bell is meeting with NFL agents and leaving. He can't really help his draft stock much, and with Spartans losing a couple starting interior linemen and looking at another rough year, why would he stay?
NFL running backs are playing on borrowed time. Take the extra year.
Gholston filed paperwork as well, but he regressed this year so I'm not sure he'll get any kind of response he would like.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:50 PM ^
I bet Gholston will leave anyway. He strikes me as a guy looking to cash in. He made just enough plays this season to warrant getting drafted somewhere.
January 2nd, 2013 at 8:46 PM ^
Plus doesn't he have a kid? Needs to support the new family.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:33 PM ^
Sparty or not dude was a beast. For Michigan sakes glad to see him upgrade.
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:34 PM ^
They will be okay. They will just reload. No biggie. /s
January 2nd, 2013 at 7:39 PM ^
I think it is safe to say MSU's blip of success is done. They will go back to mediocrity.
January 2nd, 2013 at 8:42 PM ^
7-6 season with their "best team in years".. They're already there.
January 2nd, 2013 at 9:16 PM ^
Making fun of State's record doesn't seem right considering we finished 8-5 and lost to all of our rivals.
January 2nd, 2013 at 9:42 PM ^
and I would still make fun of them. They cant help it, they were born that way.
January 3rd, 2013 at 12:48 AM ^
The whole "MSU isn't a rival" bit is lame. You can argue about them being the #2 or #3 rivalry game, OK, but to say it isn't a rivalry is absurd. Ask the players on the team how they felt about getting Paul Bunyan back.
And yeah, we're entitled to poke fun at them, because we won the game this year - so we have bragging rights.
January 3rd, 2013 at 9:10 AM ^
We lost to the AP's #1, #2, and #3 teams, plus a fourth top-10 team. And 3 of the 4 losses were by 5 or 6 points, i.e., came down to the last minute. So, I have no problem making fun of Sparty's miserable record, given that they thought they'd contend for the Leaders er Legends er Lewan Division championship and ended up battling Minnesota for a bowl game.
