OT: Confess your unpopular opinions
A couple days ago a hashtag made the rounds on twitter that implored users to share opinions they have that aren't the most popular. We've had some quality confession threads in these parts before:
http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/ot-creepy-stories-featuring-story-turned-short
(That one about songs you like but are embarrased about that I can't find)
so let's hear it. What do you believe despite knowing that it's not a popular opinion? Team related or otherwise (yes, many people will want to retain Borges. Be creative).
I'll go first: I really enjoy a good black bean burger and frequently order them rather than beef burgers.

Call of Duty is a sub-par FPS that leaves out real FPS skill (recoil control, etc.) in order to appeal from the masses. Its filled with trolls and campers and people apparently unaware that team play is, in fact, something people are interested in.
Oh, and the XBox One is garbage as well.
Sweeping generalization and flamebait opinions FTW!
(This really should be a negbang thread)

Warm climates are overrated. I don't think a place is an awesome place to visit or live just because it's got beaches and sun. I enjoy the beach but I don't consider it the ultimate vacation destination. Warm winter weather means obnoxiously sweltering summer weather and boring seasonal changes. There's nothing glamorous about Miami or Florida in general and I would be miserable living in LA or its environs.
December 11th, 2013 at 8:49 PM ^
Except it doesn't get sweltering hot in LA. Well, the civilized parts, anyway.
December 13th, 2013 at 6:07 PM ^
This is exactly what I said just before I moved to Austin in 1997. I will never again live in Michigan.
Denver winters are acceptable only because there are about 12 of them a year and each lasts about 4 days.

Johnny Depp is terrible. He only plays two characters; himself and the "crazy guy" who flails his arms about.
I think Miley Cyrus is hot. I totally would.
POLO: I'm a lib and I am not impressed with the Obama admin. /POLO
Not a fan of the clean shaven look. It just seems weird.
MLB >>>> NFL
I think things are better than they used to be.
I hate the winter olympics.
I don't eat meat.
I don't find VS "supermodels" attractive. Unique? Sure. Attractive? Not at all.
"Foodies" are just rich fat people. They love McDonalds just like you.

Boondock Saints is terribly overrated. Donnie Darko maybe the biggest piece of shit I've evern seen.

For my part, while I do occasionally log in to defend Michigan students against criticism, I really don't like most Michigan students.
In my experience, a vast majority (not surprisingly) are extremely spoiled and "look down" on everyone else, even other students at Michigan. This applies to them in a sports sense, too. There is little loyalty to the school amongst an alarming proportion of students. The most disappointing are the band students I have talked to this year. Half way through the season, they were hoping we would lose out so that they wouldn't have to travel to a bowl game. Yikes.
Small things reinforce this opinion on a daily basis -- such as kids leaving every plate, cup, napkin, etc. from a meal sitting at their table instead of taking the extra minute to put it on the dish room belt. After awhile, that kind of stuff gets infuriating.

That being said, I understand where you're coming from.
December 11th, 2013 at 6:01 PM ^
Yeah, you're right, and I apologize if that comment read in a very negative way. I don't like stereotypes/generalizations either, so hopefully it didn't across as too aggressive an opinion - really it's just based off of "general" observations in my 4.5 years here. I have met tons of wonderful people here and it's been an invaluable experience regardless of the downers here and there (though I did use the word "most" regarding M students...perhaps I shouldn't have been so severe).
Nobody is perfect, but I just wish some people would possess a bit more humility/decency at times. Plus, the thread demanded I confess. It's not like I had a choice, you know.
EDIT: I also should have explained my OP a bit more in depth, but who cares.

I would get rid of overtime for any non-playoff game in any sport. The games are long enough already, tired players are more likely to get hurt, and if you can't beat these other jokers in 60 minutes (9 innings, 48 minutes, 90 minutes, etc) you don't deserve to win.
I also hated the term "deathbacker". It sounded like something out of a bad Jack Black movie.
December 11th, 2013 at 4:07 PM ^
one of the 10 best movies of all time. Adam Sandler and Will Ferrell WERE funny once. Springsteen and Dylan can't sing and haven't been relevant in 30 years. U2 sucks (other than the WAR album). NO one ever rocked harder than Spinal Tap!

While I enjoy watching Michigan basketball, largely I feel that the level of play in college basketball is borderline unwatchable. I'd much rather take my talents to South Beach and watch some NBA action.
I also thoroughly enjoy the NBA playoffs.

- All Pro sports are awful
- UFC is terrible
- The only thing hot about Kate Upton is her fandom for Michigan
- Duck Dynasty is terrible
- Modern family is hilarious
- Call of Duty games are garbage
- Wendy's has the best burgers for fast food
- The shawshank redemption is one of the best movies of all time
- Not all rap is crap. 2pac was a genius
- Will Smith is great at everything
- Tiger Woods is definetly the best golfer of all times
- Wheat beers and domestics beers are gross

Had to respond just because of #7. Yes, all the way. The patties aren't as greasy (though I sometimes like the grease), the vegetable toppings are crisp, the buns (usually) aren't soggy... what more could you want (from uber cheap food)?

Get your ass to the West Coast sometime and try an In N Out burger, and tell me you haven't just seen heaven.
December 11th, 2013 at 6:03 PM ^
You have no idea how badly I've wanted to try In N Out for years now. I just haven't had a chance to get out West.
I don't think I've ever heard a negative review of In N Out, now that I think about it.
December 12th, 2013 at 12:20 AM ^
When I'm headed to Cali and get out of LAX, the first thing I do when I hop in the car is head to an In N Out. No exceptions. There's just something about the way they do things.
So, yeah. Absolutely do it whenever you get the chance.
December 12th, 2013 at 9:43 AM ^
In N Out is so incredibly overrated. Just because famous people eat there doesn't make it good.
December 11th, 2013 at 4:23 PM ^
People (myself included) spend too much time on the web instead of doing productive things.
December 11th, 2013 at 4:25 PM ^
Zingerman's is way overpriced and overrated.
I look down on people that watch Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead that don't read the books the series come from.
The Vampire Diaries is one of the more entertaining shows on TV.
People that watch Honey Boo-Boo should be sterilized.
I think it is perfectly acceptable to be a fan of both the Chicago Cubs & Chicago White Sox.
Chicago Style (deep dish) pizza sucks.
This is a great thread, even better with the return of up and down voting. - not an unpopular opinion but a statement of fact.
December 11th, 2013 at 4:46 PM ^
I clicked upvote before I saw you trash my town's pizza. We'll do to you what we did to Jon Stewart...
December 11th, 2013 at 6:16 PM ^
I'm from Chicago, I just hate deep dish pizza. Especially Lou Malnati's. Their deep dish bites and their thin crust is worse. I much prefer Giordano's to Lou's for both thin and thick. Rosati's thin is my favorite though.
December 11th, 2013 at 5:53 PM ^
This is mostly because the books are always checked out at the library, however.
December 11th, 2013 at 7:07 PM ^
I pity those who don't read the Game of Thrones (or rather, ASOIAF) book series. If you think the show is detailed, you'd be amazed at the complexity of the books. It's just an all-around excellent series, IMHO.
December 11th, 2013 at 7:20 PM ^
The level of detail actually is what turned me off to the books, it was suffocating. I got halfway through the second one and just couldn't keep up with or care which characters were still alive. Now I also got tired of the TV show so I'm consistent on not caring about that world I guess.
December 11th, 2013 at 4:49 PM ^
I think 50% of people that say that they like his music only say it because they think it makes them look good.
I can't stand it when someone plays the hurricane at a bar because it's the only Bob Dylan song they know and now we all have to listen to it for the next 8 minutes.
People also think they like the song black betty, but they really only like the first 30 seconds of the song.
December 11th, 2013 at 5:02 PM ^
Black Betty is a fucking shit-ass song and you're right, the first 30 seconds come on and I'm like, cool, and then 10 seconds later I think, what am I doing??? this is Black Betty, it's the worst song on the radio. (Well, on the stations I listen to.)
The way you think about Bob Dylan, I think about Lenny Kravitz. I think Lenny Kravitz is the guy white preppy people listen to in order to claim a multicultural interest in music. Especially back in the 90s.
December 11th, 2013 at 9:05 PM ^
He has grown on me, he is a great lyricist, and without Bob Dylan it's hard to say there would be Beatles songs that are different than "I want to hold your hand"
He has definitely been extremely influential in music history.
December 11th, 2013 at 5:03 PM ^
If left alone in a room with G.I. Joe toys from the '80s... I'd play with them.
Wait... is that an opinion or an admission? Screw it.

As much as it pains me that they're celebrating a win against us, occassionally I watch the Sparty locker room celebration with Dantonio dancing to "Some Type of Way" after they beat us this year because it is pretty hilarious to me. Maybe I'm like Crowpuppy and this is more of an admission than an opinon, but screw it.
