OT: Carnival of the Absurd in Post-Game 49er's Locker Room

Submitted by MayOhioEatTurds on

Having enjoyed a fellow member's post regarding Jed York's post-game apology tweet, I figured fellow members might also enjoy a peek into the 49er's post-game locker room.

According to Tim Kawakami, the 49er's post-game locker room scene was "bizarre."  As evidence for this proposition, Mr. Kawakami cites the following evidence:

(1)  "Team president Paraag Marathe was in the room for Harbaugh's postgame presser," which is something Mr. Kawakami has "never seen before," and

(2)  "Jed York and Trent Baalke were in the trainer's room next to the locker room, pacing around," which is something Mr. Kawakami has "also never seen before."

Mr. Kawakami speculates on the meaning of the foregoing evidence, though only at tweet depth.  For superfans like ourselves, it's worth a glance:

http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/49ers-ceo-jed-york-tweets-apology-fa…

Of course, disclaimers regarding it's-a-bad-loss, naturally-49er's-brass-is-going-to-be-upset apply.  On the other hand, generalized and persistent rumors regarding 49er locker room dissatisfaction and 49er administration dissatisfaction remain.  Together, I take the foregoing to mean that the kettle is starting to boil in SF.

My only hope is that Michigan's AD and Office of the President can get their respective acts together in time to make a play for Harbaugh.

Because it appears they will get a chance.

Jed York is a stoogie.

"Mommy, if I graduate from Notre Dame, can I run the 49ers?"

"Of course, sweetie."

"Even if I am a trust fund turd, who has never won anything on my own, not even a bar fight?"

"Sure you can, sweetheart."

I think the #1 problem with America is that guys like Jed York get to make important decisions.

than just trust fund kings. It's at all levels and based on who you know. UMHS has a particular issue with this.

Truth be told, most in positions of power are not capable. It is the rare few who can lead and/or handle the levers of power adroitly.

That is absolutely true at UMHS.

I was trying to get a job there after finishing undergrad. Applied to a ton of postings, and never heard a single word back. All of a sudden got very tired of this, and contacted the mom of my friend, who is in charge of some nursing department there. Although the job had nothing to do with her department, she managed to effortlessly get me an interview like 48 hours later.

I understand there will generally be a bit more accountability if you know someone within the organization, but it still seemed pretty absurd to fill positions 100% based on nepotism.

It's not possible for Hackett to go through this coaching search without contacting harbaugh, right? If he is not at least asked if he's interested I don't think I could handle that.

i don't want Harbaugh. OSU fans keep saying he sucks as a coach and has never won anything. oh and they say he is overrated and will fail wherever he is. so I say we find someone that is not overrated and has won something. \s

This is really almost too simple to comprehend. If Jim Harbaugh's career end game is to chase and maybe catch his brother and be known as one half of that neat-o sibling NFL Super Bowl coaching duo, he'll stay in the NFL. If he wants to be the next Bo Schembechler, he'll come to Michigan. Does he want to be his brother, or Bo?

Kawakami has at least part of the summary of his thoughts here - LINK - and some of his interpretation of events in non-tweet form. His summation of the reason for York's tweet:

The only logical reason: York wanted to prepare 49ers fandom for major changes ahead, and let's all assume that York's main focus is on Harbaugh's future. York and general manager Trent Baalke set this up, intentionally or not, by tacitly suggesting that this was an all-or-nothing season for Harbaugh.

What's up with all the dudes holding high ranking jobs with the 49ers who have consecutive "a"s in their last name.

Baalke

Paraag

I'm thinking they want to hire Jim Harbaugh's evil twin brother... Jim Haarbaaugh.

Sorry Jimbo, you lack vowels.

I see parallels between the SF/Harbaugh situation and SD/Shottenheimer a few years ago.  Shottenheimer took over a crap team in '02, was COY in '04, won the AFC West in '04 & '06.  Spanos, the GM, fired him February 12, 2007 because of a horrible working relationship.

If this is personal I could certainly see a GM waiting until NSD before cutting his coach loose if he thinks he's going to go back to the NCAA.

This is from a San Fran poster.

Jim Harbaugh has won 73% of his games as 49ers head coach.

This ranks number one in the NFL among current head coaches. Better than Belichick, better than Coughlin, better than Pete Carroll.

In fact it is the 4th greatest win percentage in NFL history. His won/loss percentage is greater than Bill Walsh.

He inherited a team that was 6-10 and had not had a winning season or playoff appearance in 9 years.

What in the hell is York thinking?

A couple of follow up posts show just how divided their fanbase is as well:

"I don't dispute this, but if he is really being as big of a dick behind the scenes and forcing their hands as what MM reported ...not sure what else can be done. I'd probably just pay him but I have no idea what is going on behind the scenes."

"So we risk going back to mediocrity and irrelevance because some people behind the scenes have sand in their vag?"

Their loss will hopefully be our gain.

Maybe York wants to make a statement and wants to hire his OWN coach: a relative unknown who has had some success at a lower tier of football. A nontraditional surprise pick who will toe the front office's line, and be York's man. A coach who KNOWS how to run a practice. Anyone know any candidates that would be a fit?

York is a grade A asshole.  This is a classic, "this town isn't big enough for the two of us" situation.  Except that York brings exactly ZERO value to the Niners.

So of course, the guy bringing zero value will get rid of the guy who got them to the Super Bowl because he can't stand being in a pissing match with him.  Because he's a grade A asshole.

Fine with me. Go back to having sucktacular teams York.  We will take your "probably best coach in the NFL not named Belichick" off your hands, no questions asked.

I am stationed overseas in Japan, and have been here since 2012.  So have obviously not been around A2 or Michigan whatsoever.  This blog and watching games is my only interaction with the program (coming back to the states this summer though!)

But is it just the "superfans" or whatever you want to call us on this site that want/expect Harbaugh to be hired, or is the general student populace, and just sort of casual fans you talk to on the street all about Jim Harbaugh?   More importantly do people in the athletic department feel like he would be a fan favorite?

Just asking because obviously everyone on this site would be thrilled, but wondering if the less hardcore fans feel the same way

Thanks and Beat OSU tomorrow!

Yes, the average fan knows about and wants harbaugh. As much as us "superfans", well that is hard to say but probably not. The average fan typically latches on to the popular name, and the popular name right now is harbaugh. They typically don't know too much other than the fact that he has succeeded in his past jobs.

who doesn't spend a lot of time in Ann Arbor, two weeks ago (bye week) I was seeing family in Ann Arbor and two names were on the lips of almost everyone I ran across.  From the waitress at the greasey spoon, to my sister the slum lord, to my cousin who hasn't missed a home game in forty years, Hoke and Harbaugh were always converstational ice breakers.
