OT: Best High School Mascot Contest
USA Today will be having a contest where fans will vote on their favorite unusual HS team nickname. From the rules:
The USA TODAY HSS staff has chosen 255 of the nation’s most unique high school mascots - five per state (and Washington D.C.), with voting on the state round running from Feb. 25 to March 5. The 51 winners will advance to the second round, where they will be divided among six regions. The regional round will begin March 6 and end March 14.
The six winners then will compete from March 15-25 for the chance to be named the best high school sports mascot in America.
The national winner will receive $2,000 for its athletic department. Second place will be awarded $1,000, third ($500), fourth ($250) and fifth ($100).
From the top five in each state, there are a few familiar names: the Watersmeet Nimrods, Pershing Doughboys, Goodrich Martians, Ishpeming Hematites, Kingsford Flivvers from Michigan and the Glenville Tarblooders from Ohio.

Poca Dots in WV are my early favorites.
Edit: And of course, Norwalk Truckers in Ohio.

Just looked at this and the first comment on the Ohio page is from Andrew Poopsmore of Norwalk! You just can't make this stuff up.
Also, are their girls' teams called the Lady Truckers? That reminds me of one of my favorite movies when I was a kid (go ahead and judge me!).
Edit: the best part is around 1:20 mark. My sister and I would rewind this over and over again on the VCR.

I used to live just outside of Escanaba in Gladstone, about 25 years ago. Escanaba FTW!!!
It's also good in the moonlight

Gladstone!! Cool. Another school with a mildly offensive ethnic caricature as a mascot.

I was just telling friends about the mascot costume with the homemade fiberglass head the other day.

The U.P. has several other good ones as well: Kingsford Flivvers, Menominee Maroons, Ishpeming Hemitites, Watersmeet Nimrods.

Lakeland Dreadnaughts but no Dexter Dreadnaughts? Lame. Guess there's no point in having it twice though.

Yet they have two Midgets on that list.

Lakeland has the benefit of being one of the country's best HS football programs. Those Dreadnaughts would probably beat Dexter's Dreadnaughts 70-0 unless there was a mercy rule.

My high school went into athletic competition as the Hampshire Whip-purs. There were seniors who didn't know what the hell that was.
*Note: It was a blend of "white" and "purple", represented by an ill tempered attack cat garnished with those exact colors. I know... "Cool story, Brah".

I was a fan of a minor league hockey team from Georgia, the Macon Whoopie.

high school, the Hoopeston Corn Jerkers is always funny to me.
In Indiana, there are the Shoals Jug Rox, the Martinsville Artesians, the Eminence and Clay City Eels, the Andrean Fighting 59ers, the Delphi Oracles, Indianpolis Northwest Space Pioneers, Washington Hatchets (Cody Zeller), Jimtown Jimmies, Vincinnes Lincoln Alices (Curtis Painter), Speedway Sparkplugs, and the Frankfort Hot Dogs.

It would be difficult to choose certainly. The Chattanooga Central Purple Pounders and the Webb School Feet are interesting, to say the least. North Carolina has the Grimsley Whirlies too. I see the Atom Smashers down in Georgia made it as well - this one is pretty unique.

Hoopeston Area Cornjerkers and Cobden Appleknockers - get your minds out of the gutter!
Centralia Orphans, and the girls teams are apparently called the Orphan Annies
And from Minnesota, Blooming Prairie Awesome Blossoms and Roosevelt Teddies. They also have the Winona Winhawks, but it would have been so much more awesome if they were the Winona Riders.
