OT: 49ers trying to erase all things Harbaugh?

Submitted by UMChick77 on

Found this interesting piece of news just a bit ago. I didn't see it posted yet so here you go. Apparently Jim's trademark khakis are gone and a plaque is covered.

I thought those guys were stupid but this is a new kind of dumb. Best seasons they had in years under Harbaugh and they want to forget it? You can't try this hard at being stupid...it must be engrained.

To be fair, that also appears to be the plaque that sits in front of what is now a Frank Gore mannequin. Doesn't make much sense to have a plaque about Harbaugh in front of a display for someone else, now does it? They could have at least put up a sign indicating that it's temporary until the Frank Gore plaque is up.

hire Winston Smith to rewrite 49er history, to turn Harbaugh into an unperson?

And if that guide who "awkwardly admitted" to Pratte there there was no longer any sign of Harbaugh in the museum suddenly disappears, it was probably due to his own carelessness in committing thoughtcrimes within sight and sound of the nearest telescreen.  York's Thought Police are probably at this very moment dealing with that poor guy, who's likely never to be seen again.

The 49ers have done some really stupid things, but this is a reach. It's a small museum, harbaugh is no longer the coach, and they have tons of items that are more relevant to their current team than a pair of khakis.

If there was a Michigan museum in 1989 and they replaced a statue of Bill Frieder with Rumeal Robinson's national championship game uniform, would that be petty too?

A few things.

First, museum's are constantly changing the displays to keep it worth visiting.  How long would they have to wait before it was appropriate in your opinion to swap out the Harbaugh outfit for, say, a Ronnie Lott display, or Bill Walsh's clothing?

Second, an museum exhibit displaying a coach's clothing is not exactly akin to a trophy in a dedicated trophy case.  I'm sure the 49ers trophy case, assuming there is such a thing, still has a replica of his 2011-12 NFL Coach of the Year trophy in it.

Third, it will be interesting to see what UM does with that trophy case.  The picture you linked to shows Hoke as coach from 2011-Present.  Do they simply revise the language to read 2011-2015, or do they take Hoke's plaque down and replace it with Harbaugh?  Notice there is no plaque for Rodriguez.

"I think Jim would be the first to tell you if someone were to make room for Frank, he'd want it to be him," said Lange, who also points out that numerous vestiges of Harbaugh still linger about the museum. He said the khakis could even make their way back into the rotation some day. ("Only 10 percent of our 2,000 pieces can be on display at any one time," Lange said.)

"Vestiges of Harbaugh"...it would be amusing to wander about the museum and discover precisely what that means when it comes to displayed items. It could be anything from a tie clip once worn by Harbaugh to a display of things left in his desk drawer in Santa Clara, if the competency of 49ers management is any indication.

Kinda sad in a way. Was Harbaugh really that debilitating to their organization they have to erase him from their history?

At least you upgraded, right? /s

Reminds me of that Family Guy episode where Brian and Stewie visit Germany and Brian asks the tour guide why there's nothing in his pamphlet about German history between 1939-1945, and the tour guide refuses to acknowledge the truth.

He's already on probation for getting a "Super Drunk" DUI about 9 months ago. And this one was another alcohol violation where he potentially assaulted a police officer. He's probably going to jail for like 6 months, so there's no way he can remain on the team.

Can you make a thread?
