OT: 30-40 Charleston Southern players suspended vs FSU for bizarre NCAA violation
http://www.fsunews.com/story/sports/2016/09/08/breaking-30-charleston-s…
Cliff notes version - Players recieved vouchers to school bookstore for their books, and were advised by staff to use anything left over on other bookstore items because it was "use it or lose it." Players reportedly bought pencils, binders, and other school supplies. NCAA then levied 1 game suspensions and fines against players, leaving Charleston Southern literally (EDIT: figuratively) decimated for the FSU game this week (entire O-line is out, apparently).
No doubt, this will teach Ole Miss a lesson.

Like it matters against FSU.

Congratulations! You're not going to be the ones to get pummeled by the 'Noles--enjoy your one week vacation!

The players are probably happy. You mean the walk-ons and 3rd stringers get to have their skulls bashed in this weekend instead of me? Sweet!

How do you get negged for that comment. This is the perfect example of the NCAA losing the plot. Fucking ridiculous to punish and fine kids for this. God forbid they get cream cheese on a bagel too.

I'm so glad the NCAA is looking at the big picture and not wasting time on mundate things like cheating at Ole Miss, Tennessee, Alabama, etc.

The lesson, as always, is "admit nothing, document nothing."

One article mentions they may be allowed to split the suspensions up between the FSU game and their first conference game.

Reportedly coaches are letting the players decide which game they want to miss. FCS schools only have 63 scholarships so the losses may be even greater than they first seem. They play by stricter financial rules than FBS schools because they want to. Their budgets are very limited. Even so, it seems like a disproportionate penalty. At worst, they should spread the suspensions out over more games.

^This
Best idea I've heard in a while. If I could upvote I would.
Anyone know rules about bringing in walk-ons mid-season? Google seems to say no roster limits exist in-season so I think this would be very possible.

I mean, what student WOULDN'T volunteer to take the field vs a top 5 school? I sure would.

Fuck the NCAA. Seriously. What a stupid, pointlees rule, and senseless enforcement of it.

They are so hypocritical. We should expect it by now, I suppose...

Should have just paid some players under the table, sent them to fake classes, provided hookers or provided a cultural environment which supports sexual assault.
Any of those would have been fine, but god forbid they get school supplies from the bookstore.
FUCK YOU NCAA.

Isn't it great when a school tried to actually put academics first and does something nice for students and then the NCAA suspends said students and .....wait, what?
Yeah, this is pretty fucking asinine but alas the NCAA wants to make it clear to Troy and other smaller schools for all time that this unabated grab for books and supplies is not at all central to the organization's mission of promoting the welfare of the student-athlete despite the fact that, well, books and supplies sort of help.

Wow NCAA's hypocricy knows no bounds. They hammer the little guy and turn a blind eye to what go's on in the sec on a daily basis.

Charleston Southern isn't making them any $$$.

But at this point, now this game has considerable safety issues. Especially if a bunch of their starters were suspended. More than half the team is suspended, and a bunch of FCS third stringers and walk ons are going up against one of the best teams in America, and there is no one to spell those guys.
I'm guessing Jimbo will take that into consideration and take his foot off the gas at some point early in the game, but that game could be 56-0 by halftime.

Should just tell the NCAA to piss up a rope and establish their own governing organization.
Then we can fire the Michigan money cannon at some of those 5* recruits from down south.

If the team were literally decimated, that would mean many of them (one in ten or more) had been killed.
