Enough about Ohio already.
November 29th, 2011 at 1:48 AM ^
Basically every Michigan fan.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
Wow, that really sounds like literally nothing is going to happen except a few years of probation.

If they are, I really hope that USC and the Pac-12 have a lot to say publicly about the NCAA. I would be taking serious shots at the NCAA over the lost bowl revenue and recruiting penalties USC suffered if I was Larry Scott or the AD there.
November 29th, 2011 at 1:30 AM ^
The technical difference is USC sanctions were based on Bush (football), Mayo (basketball), and some women's tennis players and long distance phone calls. Ohio was just a "handful" of football players with free/cheap tattoos, cause apparently it is not suspicious for a bunch of college students to drive a new expensive vehicle to every practice
November 29th, 2011 at 6:36 AM ^
The OSU fan on some other forum actually tried to argue that the NCAA would be a joke if they imposed any penalties, since OSU already self-penalized themselves. Hilarious.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:37 PM ^
He probably has inside info that it will not be as bad as it should be. I know they will get some scholarships taken away! They should get at least a bowl ban for at least one if not 2 years. Though since Urban signed early he probably knows it will be just a slap on the wrist.
November 29th, 2011 at 2:02 AM ^
Urban to ESPN: Hey, I'm about to get a fat paycheck to coach OSU, you gotta back off digging up dirt so the NCAA doesn't hit them so hard.
ESPN: ok.
Urban to the public: No, I'm not the coach of OSU.
ESPN: Urban is the new head coach at OSU.
November 29th, 2011 at 10:12 AM ^
Did it strike anyone else as bizarre that Meyer talked about that it wasn't his job to police anything and it was just his coach to coach? This is a guy that is being introduced as head coach of a school that is currently facing a failure to monitor charge and he basically says "I am just going to coach and turn a blind eye to all of the compliance issues that might occur around me!" I was very surprised at that approach but I guess OSU feels like the NCAA will in turn ignore everything that's going on.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:38 PM ^
I was thinking Urban should have waited to hear the result of this, but it makes sense to take the job now for two reasons:
1) Recruiting (and he mentioned that in his press conference, said he was going to commence calls tonight)
2) Gotta take a job like that as soon as it opens
November 28th, 2011 at 9:40 PM ^
Ohio State has something on the NCAA. I mean, how do they keep getting way with doing things the wrong way? The article is Gene Smith laughing at the NCAA.
November 28th, 2011 at 11:08 PM ^
Gene Smith is/was/is the NCAA. Its who you know and who you blow...
November 28th, 2011 at 9:40 PM ^
Sigh. Every time I think it's not possible for me to hate the NCAA more, they prove me wrong.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:41 PM ^
November 28th, 2011 at 9:42 PM ^
peeps. So Ohio gets off. It's like everything in life, money and connections > all else.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:48 PM ^
If true then it explains why Meyer took the job in advance of the ruling from the NCAA. He probably has contacts within that tipped him to the fact that no real punishment would be forthcoming.
Also if true it would seem the NCAA places 20 minutes of excessive stretching on virtually the same scale of violation severity that OSU committed. And that is truly unbelievable.

No, no Michigan players had their senior seasons ruined. That's the real scandal of the NCAA. If you are a student and you break the rules to cash in for a few hundred dollars they are perfectly willing to put your career at risk. If you are a bunch wealthy administrators breaking the rules to cash in on millions its no big deal.
Tell DeVier Posey that Ohio got off easy.
November 29th, 2011 at 8:11 AM ^
DeVier Posey got off easy himself. He got to play in a major bowl game that he wasn't eligible for (although that DID get vacated because he wasn't eligible), and he got to play in TWO WHOLE GAMES retribution-free, even though he probably could've just as easily been deemed ineligible and kicked out of the program or made into an outcast like Pryor.
Long story short, if you're not eligible to play, you don't get to play - unless you do.

Better than the sweater? Maybe in the grand scheme but doubtful against Michigan. No way Meyer wins nine of his first ten.
November 29th, 2011 at 11:20 AM ^
But "funny" it ain't. Sadly true.
November 28th, 2011 at 9:59 PM ^
not too many other schools where you have to read the article to get the answer to:
"Which one of their court cases is this regarding?"
November 28th, 2011 at 10:01 PM ^
Dunn just tweeted "Just got off the phone with Urban Meyer"
November 28th, 2011 at 10:35 PM ^
@S_Morris12 Shane Morris
“@tstrobes: “@Dymonte1: @DunnItAlready25 if you don't come to Michigan we are no longer cousins lol” that goes for me too.” And me too!! <3
November 28th, 2011 at 10:46 PM ^
who exactly said that secnd comment. Thomas the first reply I'm guessing and Morris the second? the third?
November 28th, 2011 at 11:01 PM ^
Thomas first, Strobel second, Morris third.
November 28th, 2011 at 11:03 PM ^
Fairly certain that Dymonte tweeted "if you don't come to Michigan we are no longer cousins lol"
Strobel "re-tweeted" it and added "that goes for me too"
Morris "re-tweeted" it and and added "And me too! <3"

Winning is the best revenge and it's the only thing we should care about.
November 28th, 2011 at 11:32 PM ^
You are absolutely correct beating Ohio is enough (cheating or not), but it is still hard to see Ohio continually self report violations while on probation from Basketball and Football and not get more from the NCAA when they fail to self report.
November 29th, 2011 at 5:49 AM ^
Yes but if this goes down as a minor punishment and they get a slap on the wrist only, who's to say it won't continue?
November 28th, 2011 at 10:07 PM ^
It's really gross that Ohio and Meyer seem to know what's coming from the NCAA. The school is facing a substantial charge yet no one seems worried.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:17 PM ^
You'll see gene Smith leaving OSU soon to join the NCAA and will further protect Ohio as they continue to pay players and cheat their way to national glory.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:42 PM ^
If Ohio gets a slap on the wrist, I am all in favor of a Congressional Hearing into the workings of the NCAA and the discontinuation of its tax exempt status.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:48 PM ^
The only way this thing will go away is if people allow it to.
I think that journalists will have more news coming too, especially once ESPN gets the Sarniak emails.
November 29th, 2011 at 1:20 AM ^
Plus fucking 1
November 28th, 2011 at 10:44 PM ^
the people who thought OSU was going to get any kind of bowl ban or lose a bunch of schollies were dellusional. The fix has been in for awhile. The NCAA couldn't care less about the massive cheating and lying going on at OSU becuase they are too concerned about extra stretching or free bagels.
OSU will shrug this off like nothing happened. They are already back to where they started with one of the best coaches in the land and a top 15 recruiting class. They will likely go right back to rolling over most of the Big 10 next year.
The whole thing is a big joke.
November 28th, 2011 at 10:52 PM ^
that is all
November 28th, 2011 at 11:23 PM ^
I mean, we all knew it would happen. It really amazes me that the NCAA doesn't even try and no one cares. They should just call itminor league football and get it over with.
November 29th, 2011 at 1:32 AM ^
Is there anyone with any media connections from Michigan? This is fucking horseshit. That cocksucker already knows that there will be very little punishment; and by cocksucker I meant Meyer. Someone that can think clearly call The Freep. Wait this is bad for Michigan. Call .... Aw fuck it!
November 29th, 2011 at 2:20 AM ^
then why get rid of Tressel in the first place?
I think there's an overestimation of the NCAA's leniency in this case -a natural, cynical response from UM fans and anyone else who hates Ohio with a passion. But the fact remains that these were major violations, which could result in scholarship losses, loss of future bowl and/or championship game eligibility, plus a heavy caboose ruling of "probation" with heavier penalties if broken.
With Urban Mire on board and a long track record for offering troubled kids who repeatedly make dumb decisions second, third and seventh chances, I just think anyone who says this is going to end up all ok for OSU is really fooling themselves.
The conviction of the program and coming probation make Meyer's job more burdensome than what he encountered at BGSU, Utah and Florida.
