If they are, I really hope that USC and the Pac-12 have a lot to say publicly about the NCAA. I would be taking serious shots at the NCAA over the lost bowl revenue and recruiting penalties USC suffered if I was Larry Scott or the AD there.

The technical difference is USC sanctions were based on Bush (football), Mayo (basketball), and some women's tennis players and long distance phone calls. Ohio was just a "handful" of football players with free/cheap tattoos, cause apparently it is not suspicious for a bunch of college students to drive a new expensive vehicle to every practice

He probably has inside info that it will not be as bad as it should be. I know they will get some scholarships taken away! They should get at least a bowl ban for at least one if not 2 years. Though since Urban signed early he probably knows it will be just a slap on the wrist.

Did it strike anyone else as bizarre that Meyer talked about that it wasn't his job to police anything and it was just his coach to coach?  This is a guy that is being introduced as head coach of a school that is currently facing a failure to monitor charge and he basically says "I am just going to coach and turn a blind eye to all of the compliance issues that might occur around me!"  I was very surprised at that approach but I guess OSU feels like the NCAA will in turn ignore everything that's going on.

I was thinking Urban should have waited to hear the result of this, but it makes sense to take the job now for two reasons:

1) Recruiting (and he mentioned that in his press conference, said he was going to commence calls tonight)

2) Gotta take a job like that as soon as it opens

If true then it explains why Meyer took the job in advance of the ruling from the NCAA. He probably has contacts within that tipped him to the fact that no real punishment would be forthcoming.

Also if true it would seem the NCAA places 20 minutes of excessive stretching on virtually the same scale of violation severity that OSU committed.  And that is truly unbelievable.

No, no Michigan players had their senior seasons ruined. That's the real scandal of the NCAA. If you are a student and you break the rules to cash in for a few hundred dollars they are perfectly willing to put your career at risk. If you are a bunch wealthy administrators breaking the rules to cash in on millions its no big deal.

Tell DeVier Posey that Ohio got off easy.

DeVier Posey got off easy himself. He got to play in a major bowl game that he wasn't eligible for (although that DID get vacated because he wasn't eligible), and he got to play in TWO WHOLE GAMES retribution-free, even though he probably could've just as easily been deemed ineligible and kicked out of the program or made into an outcast like Pryor.

Long story short, if you're not eligible to play, you don't get to play - unless you do.

the people who thought OSU was going to get any kind of bowl ban or lose a bunch of schollies were dellusional.  The fix has been in for awhile.  The NCAA couldn't care less about the massive cheating and lying going on at OSU becuase they are too concerned about extra stretching or free bagels.

OSU will shrug this off like nothing happened.  They are already back to where they started with one of the best coaches in the land and a top 15 recruiting class.  They will likely go right back to rolling over most of the Big 10 next year.

The whole thing is a big joke.

I mean, we all knew it would happen. It really amazes me that the NCAA doesn't even try and no one cares. They should just call itminor league football and get it over with.

Is there anyone with any media connections from Michigan? This is fucking horseshit. That cocksucker already knows that there will be very little punishment; and by cocksucker I meant Meyer. Someone that can think clearly call The Freep. Wait this is bad for Michigan. Call .... Aw fuck it!

then why get rid of Tressel in the first place?

I think there's an overestimation of the NCAA's leniency in this case -a natural, cynical response from UM fans and anyone else who hates Ohio with a passion. But the fact remains that these were major violations, which could result in scholarship losses, loss of future bowl and/or championship game eligibility, plus a heavy caboose ruling of "probation" with heavier penalties if broken.

With Urban Mire on board and a long track record for offering troubled kids who repeatedly make dumb decisions second, third and seventh chances,  I just think anyone who says this is going to end up all ok for OSU is really fooling themselves.

The conviction of the program and coming probation make Meyer's job more burdensome than what he encountered at BGSU, Utah and Florida.
