OSU fan solves the mystery....

In a letter to the editor/mailbox article by Brian White of the Columbus dispatch, OSU fans blame the refs for their loss to TTUN. To his credit, Mr. White does not seem to buy much into their opinion.

On Ohio State vs. Michigan

Dear Editor: Yes, our guys both coaching and playing didn't have a good game at all, period. We had championship type players without having the heart of a champion. However, after re-evaluating that loss it did appear that TTUN's offensive line did in fact get away with multiple holdings that were never called. Coach Day should've been on the officials all game for that mess. No excuses, but it's no wonder those running lanes were so wide open. Our young team will be back with the heart of a champion along with the championship type players!

Robb Price

Dear Editor: I guess no one noticed that Michigan wasn't called for holding even though they were holding on every play. It is hard to get a sack when your players are being held.

David Bishop

Dear Robb, David: I don't buy holding as an excuse for getting pummeled. But if holding was being allowed, perhaps the Ohio State offensive linemen should have started grabbing blue jerseys.

Isn't this just one fan or two writing to an editor- not sure this is a widely held (no pun intended) view.  That said seems like it is common that the offensive lines are holding, the questions is rather whether it is called fairly for both teams.

Of course, we have never blamed refs for our misfortunes. But if we did, ours would undoubtedly have more merit.

We won. It is joyful that we get to read their whining for a change - even if perhaps not thread worthy.

But again, we won.  They lost. So they can suck it up and deal with it that we handed them their arse.

It is never a great place to be when you point to the refs even when justified as you would be pointing from behind but to the credit of this board there is usually an image of the actual hold and a clear indication that that particular hold actually mattered.

I remember the statistics a few years back when every team had their best (fewest holding penalty) game against Michigan.

Well the refs objectively swung the game 11 points in the first half when we played MSU. Walker definitely fumbled that first touchdown like a complete IDIOT and got away with it. Also Hutch scored that touchdown. So 14 points off the board. But we did score a field goal off the subsequent drive when they took away Hutch TD. 11 point swing based on controversial referee decisions. How controversial you find them is a matter of opinion, but they seemed pretty cut and dried to me.

Hilarious.  I agree we held the BIG10 East trophy up!!!  Also Harbaugh held up the BIG10 Championship trophy up along with the linemen and the rest of the team, together in unison.  The trip to Indianapolis was worth the wait!  Thanks to the team down south for allowing us all of the opportunities to hold again.

Hmm. Let this guy look back at the 2016 game. JT had all day, multiple holds on each of his scrambles out of trouble, as well as stretch running plays. But I get it. When you get your ass kicked, it can't be because your rival finally outplayed you.

The come-apart in Columbus is glorious to watch and will be for the coming year.

There is a lot of post-game ugliness coming out the last two weeks.  I think Desmond Howard made a drunken-uncle ass of himself on TV last night.  Taking pot shots at tOSU and their players in that forum in front of CJ, his family, and Coach Day was out of line, uncomfortable, and not remotely funny.  There is a time and place for that kind of trash talk, and that was definitely not it IMO.  I credit CJ Stroud for being the adult and holding his composure and just glaring back at him.

This may be an unpopular opinion on this website but I am ready to move on from the win over tOSU two weeks ago and focus on Georgia.  With respect to tOSU, until we go into Columbus next year and prove we can win The Game under what should be much more adverse circumstances, I am not going to extrapolate beyond 11/27/21 other than it was a great win (for a change) for Blue and our program that buys us 12 months of angst-free happiness and MAY portend a more balanced rivalry with the Buckeyes.

OSU excuse list:

1. It was too cold

2. There was snow

3. We had the flu

4. Uncalled holding

5. Mich players were mean to us

6. There was too much noise

7. We set our alarm to p.m. versus a.m.

8. The dog ate our gameplan

9. Somehow Coombs plugged his headphones back in

10. Ewers sucked up too much of our NIL $ on his way out of town

11. Ryan Day's beard gave us herpes

Am I missing anything?

Guess it depends on how you define 'holding' anymore.  By the traditional definition, I'd say both lines were holding quite a bit.  By the more modern (if you will) definition, you have to outright spin a guy around and/or tackle him.  And from that standpoint, the game was called pretty fairly.

The best part of that article is the picture of the handsome 6’9” dude, who loves Michigan, with his arms raised in celebration watching Haskins ice The Game.

“No excuses…”

now tell them to go back at watch every UM and keep an eye on Hutch and Ojabo. It’s amazing UM won any games this year if that’s the non-excuse excuse they’re going with.

When we got the weak-ass unsportsmanlike conduct penalty early in the game, I thought the refs were going to take over the game. They didn't and let the game be decided on the field. We had one other penalty, a false start, the rest of the game.
