Good for him and Coach.

Awesome to see, as the son of a coach (my head varsity football coach) it is so special to have that opportunity.

Jace Howard is unranked by 247 Sports. Juwan Howard is never going to beat Duke if he doesn't successfully recruit 5-star players.

Lol are people not satisfied with what Jay Harbaugh has done? Since he's become RB coach, we've seen the emergence of Karan Higdon, brought in Christian Turner, seeing Tru Wilson become a legit option, brought in Zach Charbonnet (and Eric Gray until Tennessee gave him the bag) and seem to be in a pretty solid place for the future of the RB position

It's really not much of a risk. They've had an unused scholarship for a number of years running, two for this season. Beilein took a lot of players with worse offer sheets as well as leaving a spot open.

If Juwan can really fill up the rest of his roster with top ranked players, we'll all be ecstatic

Random question: Are there special exceptions for coaches whose sons they recruit re: recruiting violations?? I mean, if Juwan pays for Jace’s meals, that can’t possibly count as some type of infraction, can it?! Kinda dumb question but I’m genuinely curious if anyone knows

I'm not sure what the rules are exactly.

Doug did do this, but he gave it to a guy who was already on the team

I remember it was actually tough for Andre Drummond to do this for his scrub teammate, so it may be a case by case kind of thing (ie. Jace may be able to walk on, but Jett might now be able to)

does that make Christmas at the howard house into one big impermissible benefits derby?

would the NCAA buy the 'not me, it was santa' excuse?

I'm good with Jace being brought in, but using a scholarship on him doesn't seem to make such sense to me. He could easily be brought in as a walk on and still be a contributor, but Juwan could easily pay his tuition as a university employee. But using a scholarship on him in such a key recruiting year doesn't seem wise

This is extremely smart to offer him. Regardless of star status he has the blood and the opportunity to become a legit d1 high major talent later on. More importantly though his friends are the best players in the country and it can certainly help with some of those 5 star types.
