I've been wondering if they told or strongly hinted to Cade he would be out. I just can't fathom wanting to go play for him even if it was a solid NIL package.
December 15th, 2022 at 3:16 PM ^
In his infamous podcast interview Cade said that he was told Iowa is planning to go in a different direction with the offense, or something to that effect, which is why he chose to go there
December 15th, 2022 at 3:17 PM ^
Iowa is planning to go in a different direction with the offense
Forward?

Bravo

Rumors are that the new OC MUST ace this test to be in consideration to lead the Hawkeyes forward
December 15th, 2022 at 7:48 PM ^
To the end zone?
December 15th, 2022 at 3:18 PM ^
It's not like Cade is a sling it all over the field type or running threat. Careful what he wishes for. The new guy might bring someone with him.
December 15th, 2022 at 3:40 PM ^
Now that would be entertaining to watch unfold.
December 15th, 2022 at 3:56 PM ^
Are you saying he is bringing Gucci luggage?
December 15th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
They are probably going all in on Gattis.......that was the lure for Cade and All
December 15th, 2022 at 4:10 PM ^
Wouldn't surprise me if Gattis were to leave Miami and go Iowa. Nothing is impossible these days.
December 15th, 2022 at 5:40 PM ^
Would be interesting to see them hire the OC from one of the few college offenses that was worse than Iowa this year.
December 15th, 2022 at 6:00 PM ^
Improbably, UM (not our UM) averaged 112 yds. a game more than Iowa--which isn't evidence that Miami was good, but rather that Iowa was epic proportions of bad.
December 15th, 2022 at 6:10 PM ^
Miami turned the ball over 8 times vs Duke. That caught Iowa's attention. "Maybe we can add a new dimension to our horrid offense..."
December 17th, 2022 at 2:14 AM ^
It would be interesting to hear him trash Miami in the way out.
They All belong together.

Gattis comin!

Speed In Space!
December 15th, 2022 at 2:54 PM ^
I don't think it's dubious that whoever gets hired will be better. I think anyone who can coach in any way, shape, or form would likely be an improvement over Brian Ferentz.
December 15th, 2022 at 3:15 PM ^
It’s not as if those offenses he’s coordinated we’re dripping with talent.
December 15th, 2022 at 5:14 PM ^
Wonder how much input dad had.
December 15th, 2022 at 5:51 PM ^
They weren't talented by top 25 standards, but they were performing at the bottom of D1. He was also position coach for RB, QB and TE at various points, so a lot of their not having good players is also on him.
December 15th, 2022 at 4:37 PM ^
With the possible exception of Matt Canada (the Steelers' offensive coordinator, all puns intended, and I use the term loosely).

Just takes a little thinking about who the new OC is going to be.
December 15th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
Gorgeous Borges?
December 15th, 2022 at 2:55 PM ^
Iowa doesn't come to pass either
December 15th, 2022 at 2:55 PM ^
“Son, I hate to do this, but you’re fired. OK, your mom and I will see you on the 25th. Don’t be late!”
December 15th, 2022 at 2:58 PM ^
"Keep your chin up slugger. How about we go out for ice cream, my treat?"
December 15th, 2022 at 2:59 PM ^
Kirk would be doing Iowa a disservice by keeping Brian on in any playcalling capacity.
The funny thing is that if Iowa modernized its offense even just a little, and got an OC in who knew what he was doing, they could consistently be a very good team that regularly challenges for NY6 bids. They seem to consistently recruit great offensive linemen, they develop tight ends really well, and the running game has usually been pretty consistent in at least being decent, this year notwithstanding. They can build a good offense with the talent they're able to get, even if they want to keep some pro style concepts.
Iowa has a much higher ceiling as a program than Kirk Ferentz is allowing it to ascend to. I truly wonder if he's just gotten complacent.
December 15th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
It’s hard for me to think Kirk is holding back Iowa when, for all intents and purposes, he is Iowa football at this point.
The offense has been terrible lately but I just don’t see a higher ceiling for them as a program than being a 10 win Big Ten also ran.
December 15th, 2022 at 4:04 PM ^
He's just holding it down for Bert to come back home :/
December 16th, 2022 at 4:20 AM ^
I mean, they went 12-0 in the regular season in 2015 and lost to MSU on that late drive.
December 15th, 2022 at 4:01 PM ^
Double post, whoops!
December 15th, 2022 at 6:13 PM ^
Iowa did have a higher ceiling. With NIL, I see them as pretty much irrelevant especially with Nebraska and Wisconsin having their new coaches. Their ceiling is drastically lower now.
December 15th, 2022 at 2:59 PM ^
Is there another son that can take over? I'd hate to see the dynasty end.
December 15th, 2022 at 3:43 PM ^
There's young Elon Ferentz...
December 15th, 2022 at 4:12 PM ^
Dirk and Fonzie Ferentz are both currently looking for work
December 16th, 2022 at 1:21 AM ^
Not quite as weird and creepy as Steve Belichick, but same ballpark!
December 16th, 2022 at 12:22 PM ^
Linebackers coach... I guess he'll be Iowa's DC in a year or two.
December 15th, 2022 at 3:00 PM ^
The easy way out is for Kirk to elevate him to a vague "associate head coach" position that is too time consuming and important to allow him to continue his offensive coordinator duties. Then Kirk finds him a nice cushy job at a non Power 5 school within the next year. Problem solved.
December 15th, 2022 at 4:18 PM ^
"Okay, Brian. Now you know the vital importance of marking our sheets of game plans. So elevating you to your new job of pencil sharpening makes you the key to everything we do."
December 15th, 2022 at 3:01 PM ^
This feels like a deck shuffling situation to me. I would wager a fair amount that the younger Ferentz will still be on the staff, maybe just not the OC. New OC is probably already on staff.
December 15th, 2022 at 3:19 PM ^
Deck Shuffling? Perhaps, as on the Titanic?
December 15th, 2022 at 3:04 PM ^
The fact that there are "Iowa Insiders" -- in addition to diehard Iowa fans -- who watch every snap of Iowa football and analyze the minutiae of it -- makes me so thankful that I am not that
December 15th, 2022 at 3:08 PM ^
Is there still in heat inside the spicy “Gattis to Iowa” rumors?
December 15th, 2022 at 3:58 PM ^
Didn't even know this was thing. Did a quick Google search and... yeah there's definitely rumors. That would be an interesting turn of events.
